WinMo @ MoDaCo _ Pocket PC Software _ New FREE Utility - NoData

Posted by: Paul (MVP) Sep 20 2006, 10:55

Here's a quick, handy little application i've rustled up as i'm off abroad for a few days soon, and don't want to run up a huge GPRS bill.

It lists your GPRS connections, and allows you to disable them so that they won't be used.

Disable your connections before you leave, re-enable them when you return - piece of cake with MoDaCo NoData tongue.gif

Note that if you get bizarre registry errors on toggling, you need to app unlock your device (e.g. with SDA Application Unlocker).

Enjoy, feedback welcomed! Nice little utility Paul - installed it in ExtROM, went to UPX it and....oh, Paul's already done that for us ;)

Enjoy Boston!

Man that is EXACTLY what i was looking for

Out of interest How does it actually do this. does it change the connect settings so it the connection eg t-mobile internet dials a non existant connection and then when toggled back changes it back to the original??

either way brilliant thanks very much for this.

Out of interest if no data is enabled and im on holiday abroad. but have the phone on to recieve calls and texts. will pocket outlook which i have 3 email accounts set up on come up with error messages every 15 mins (the refresh time of my email accounts)

i hope not

Posted by: Paul (MVP) Sep 25 2006, 08:52

The application interrogates the registry to list the connections, then toggles the 'enabled' value on the connection between 1 and 0.

If it is set to 0, the device does not try to connect it.

With regards to the timed sync, I think it will just 'not happen' (that seems to be the case with DirectPush too). Only one way to find out tho eh?

Just been installing a few of the freebies for my new SPV M3100 and have to say thanks for a great site tongue.gif

Not sure if I'm doing something wrong with the no data utility but I get 3 options (Orange GPRS WAP, Orange Internet and Orange MMS). When I try to disable GPRS it actually disables MMS and I can't seem to get any other combination working.

Is this just a M3100 thing do you think?

Thanks for the reply.

When I try to toggle 'Orange Internet' it actually disables 'Orange MMS'. In fact, no matter what I toggle it only ever seems to disable the MMS function - weird!

Any ideas?

Is it possible to increase the functionality of this nice little utility?

Like most people, I have set-up automatic retreival of email (PUSH or POP). Currently that run's all day at a selected interval (for me every hour). However this is bloody anoying when at 1 or 2am you receive an email, and you get awoken by the alert!

So, is it possible that functionality could be added that would allow the user to indicate hours of operation? Such as for each day, you could say allow connection between times?

For Example:

Mon-Fri: Allow 06:00 until 22:00

Sat-Sun: Allow 10:00 until 22:00

I've tried to download it on my vario 2 via pie and it downloads index.php too and doesn't actually get the cab file

although it'll probably work fine on my desktop pc but it doesn't download on the vario 2

Tried it on my Wizard & it seems to work very well. For me the acid test comes next week when I go to Europe for a few days.

The time schedule idea / request sounds good too. Nothing worse than using the phone as an alarm clock only to be woken by an email in the middle of the night.

Keep up the good work & thanks.

A simple but brilliant program - going on holiday on Monday and this is exactly what I was looking for!

If I was to make one small comment, it's that while it works fine in landscape mode, it's not as pretty smile.gif

I really appreciate this, I tried it out last night and it worked fine thanks! Now, I have a 'data-free' sleep and can still leave my phone on! Plus, I'm off to Greece this weekend! Huzzah!

Two things: any extra work you put into this I think would be greatly appreciated; and also, I'm not sure about your comments on the Orange connections earlier in this thread - my unit has been connecting to the net thru 'Orange GPRS WAP' and not 'Orange Internet'. I don't know if this has necessarily caused me an issue, but my bill was wrong and I am now thinking I should have disabled/deleted the WAP connection and left just the Internet one. Orange are not clear on this <_< and (consequently) neither are many of us here.

Any thoughts?

Good job though chap! smile.gif

Just copy the cab file onto your device using ActiveSync. On your device use file explorer to find the cab, then double click on it to install it.

Hi all, i have just got a XDA Mini S on O2, which is a fantasic bit of kit, i love the fact that i can surf the net and read my E-Mail over the WiFi, which leads me to the point of this post!. this might sound like a REALLY stupid question but how do i know if the GPRS system is active? as i want to turn the thing of as i dont want to use it at all.
I tried to install the Disable GPRS program, but when i try and run it it throws up a error message like "
ERROR, An unexpected error has occurred in NoData.exe.
Select Quit and then restart this program, or selet Details for more informaation"
so i restart and it still say the same thing.
Any clues?
Also how do i remove the O2 programs? i really dont want or need most of them.
Thanks! smile.gif

Have you installed the CAB file properly? Don't open CABs on your PC - copy the archive straight onto your PPC and install it from there using a file explorer, or use the CABViaActiveSync utility provided in "Paul's free software" in this forum (hermes.modaco.com).

Your other questions can be answered a) by RTFM, and cool.gif not on this thread! ;)

Hi Paul,
Thanks again for a very useful tool (I have been reading a lot of ModaCO posts during last week - I have just gotten a new TyTN and I try to learn new tricks specific to the phone functions - these forums are really terrific!). I have a small question: I have already installed GB-SOft Tweak nad I have the impression that this applet already provides this function or am I missing something (I do not yet understand all the implications of the new GPRS possibilities on my TyTN)?

Best regards,

Word of notice when roaming. I just got back from the states - I had the GPRS monitor running to make sure nothing was downloading, and every now and then it'd register a few hundred K - quite often when I tried to connect to the hotel WiFi and it missed - it's start to dial and I'd cancel. However looking at my t-mobile bill it hasn't (thus far) actually logged any activity. So either it didn't actually download anything (and the GPRS monitor is confused) or it takes a while for roaming data charges to be transferred (even though the voice calls already have).

Just a point of note.

In my experience, GPRS Monitor doesn't predict my T-Mo USA data usage well at all. I compared 6 weeks of use. GPRS monitor was on average 25% higher, but there were days that T-Mo said I was 33% higher than GPRS Monitor. It was definitely correlated (p=.7) but wildly inaccurate. I emailed the company, was forwarded to a tech, who said 'how could we possibly be accurate for every one of the hundreds of cell providers.' I asked for a refund.

Now what is interesting is why. First, GPRS monitor attempts to track all usage, some of which is overhead and the companies aren't including in billing. But at the same time, the companies seem to be estimating data usage and not recording it exactly. I suspect that GPRS Monitor is in fact accurate (although including unbilled overhead). If I left my data connection enabled but unused for a day (I did a hard reset to insure nothing was connecting), T-Mobile said I used a small amount of data (4K). GPRS monitor said I used about 12K. Now the only thing that was running was GPRS monitor and keeping my connection alive with the registry hack.

By the way, the palm Treo doesn't have the problem of data overuse at all. Checking email with a treo, I used 20% of the data I use with the T-Mo MDA, doing precisely the same thing on the same volume of data. Checking email when there are existing emails on the server uses a lot of data in Windows Mobile, not in Palm.

Thanks for the program; I will use it traveling. The one sure way not to be overcharged is to have GPRS off.

Posted by: dunroamin Feb 24 2007, 22:35

Just like to add my thanks for this great utility.

My wife got an o2 xda mini mainly to use the keyboard for texting, she doesn't use gprs so i got round it at first by using a dummy connection so it failed every time. This was a bit of a kludge so I l looked a bit further & found that the
connections could be disabled in the registry - I tried a remote reg editor but it would not let me change the keys. Then I found this!
Brilliant - Now I can turn all gprs connections off quickly & easily and back on again if we ever need to use it.

I do find it pretty awful that there isn't a built in setting to do this. Anyone who doesn't understand the technology (i.e. my wife) could inadvertantly run up huge bills!

Thanx for a great app, I've been looking for exactly something like this.

I have one question tho.

Is there any chance to run NODATA with command line parameters?
Because everytime I reset my eten glofiish M700 all the connections are enabled again.
(somehow registry values are "default" again)

I have no idea if the app itself can be changed to "survive" soft reset or just run
as a startup command...

I would like to know if anyone else has the same problem, coz I guess all of us have to reset our phones sometimes wink.gif

Thanks a lot, you did a great job

There is a simple manual solution to that problem, if you're not using the alarm function of the phone. In WM5, go to Start/Settings/Sounds & Notifications and untick the Programs and/or Notifications sections. If you then leave the phone, the screen is still there in the morning when you wake up, so you can remember to reset it!

Hello everybody,

I installed this NoData app to disable/enable GPRS/EDGE on my HTC S710 WM6 smartphone (I installed it once via the CAB file --> explorer and once with the CABviaActiveSync utility from Paul, but both times I have the same problem).

I have 2 profiles of GPRS defined.

When I run the application, I get the following error :
An unexpected error has occurred in NoData.exe. Select Quit and then restart this program, or select Details for more information.

And when I select Details, it says :

Hi!

Thanks for the little app!
However, mine too, did not survive a soft reset. The GPRS was automatically enabled again. sad.gif
I'm running WM6 on EtenM700.

EDIT:
The app changed my "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers \{7C4B7A38-5FF7-4bc1-80F6-5DA7870BB1AA}\Connections\ GPRS\Enabled" to "0"
But it reverts back to "1" upon soft reset, also when IE tried to connect to internet but could not.

So you need to have the settings installed before the program works?

yes.
after updating to WM6 my settings were lost. although its supposed to be st up automaticly, it wasnt, so goto

Start - settings - connections tab - connections - add a new modem connection - then enter the info from there (that your provider supplies)

Rogers settings are:

connection name: whatever you want to call it
select modem: Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G)
Acess point name: internet.com
user name: wepuser1
password: wep

BTW thanks OP for the great App.

When I shutdown and restart the icon is there but I get the error.

i installed this tool on my E-TEN X500plus Glofiish (which has WM6) and it worked perfect: ever since i bought this beautifull smartphone i was hindered bij the GPRS: i am using wifi and do not even have a GPRS enabled telephone account, whenever i want to use internet i either use my laptop or the glofiish over wifi. but now without that GPRS it works much faster!! thanks Paul for this software!

PS: i disabled Vodafone normal GPRS, normal WAPC and normal WAPG and enabled normal MMS. I have a rather cheap account on my phone (7 euro/month and 150 minutes free) and that is all i need for the phone. For internet i wanted to use wifi and now that works better than ever. wifi is however eating lots of energy, but i switch wifi off when out of range of a hotspot, and that works fine enough!

I think I had the same problem. My problem was that the my network settings hadn't been configured yet. First use the network wizard to configure your connection(s), then run NoData (when there are no connections to be toggled, you get the error). Works fine on my HTC Touch WM6 now.

In case anyone wants the REALLY quick n simple n dirty VB.net source code for this, here it is.

Requirements are obviously VS 2005, WM5 PPC SDK and the free edition of the inthehand.com libraries (for registry access).

I assume it's just not Dash-compatible. Looking forward to seeing something like this in the future for the Dash!

Hi guys,

New on this forum. Got here because I was looking for an App which could do exactly this.
Only problem is that I get the same error described above.

I checked and my connections ; -- there, so I don't know what else can be done.
I installed it on a Samsung I620 from Vodafone (Italy).

Generall seems to work ok for me, disabled everything and then tried things like POP mail retreival and internet browsing and it couldn't as the connections were disabled biggrin.gif

Unfortunately, one of the connections has re-enabled itself overnight on 2 occassions and downloaded my POP mail sad.gif
Still on O2 atm awaiting switch over to Voda
Just taken off my POP email accounts as I think somehow the send/receive schedule is enabling the connection
Will just use the mobile internet sites to view and mail as I'm usually not out and about needing to check them
Have WiFi at home and work and my laptop with me to check and download email

May end up having to get a data bolt on with Voda for £7.50 per month for piece of mind but puts monthly bill up £42.50!!

Any ideas what may be causing this?

I, as well, am getting this same error message with nodata. Where is this network wizard in WM6? I have tried deleting my gprs settings, adding one, and later another, but still have been unable to get my GPRS settings to work, meaning I have been keeping my phone on off as 3mb data roaming in Brazil = 50 euros.... so I desperatly need some way to close data connection for all but the WIFI.

How about this.. add a proxy named 127.0.0.1:65000 (or any other unused port) to your Data Connection when you want it off?

It'll try to connect, fail the proxy connect, and data connection never establishes?

The application interrogates the registry to list the connections, then toggles the 'enabled' value on the connection between 1 and 0.

If it is set to 0, the device does not try to connect it.

With regards to the timed sync, I think it will just 'not happen' (that seems to be the case with DirectPush too). Only one way to find out tho eh?

Hello,

The NoData app doesn't seem to effect the connection that Blackberry Connect uses on the AT&T Tilt.

Even after setting it to disabled, the Blackberry Connect software is able to make a GPRS/3G connection to the "Blackberry" data network that is configured on a stock AT&T Tilt. Here are some of the methods that I've tried:

    • Disconnected from the Blackberry network
    • Used NoData to toggle the "Blackberry" connection to DISABLED
    • Watched as Blackberry Connect successfully connected to the "Blackberry" network
    • Opened Blackberry Connect
    • Clicked on Suspend to shutdown the service
    • Tried to use NoData to toggle the "Blackberry" connection to DISABLED, but it was no longer listed
    • Opened Blackberry Connect
    • Clicked Resume to enable the service
    • Enabled Flight Mode, disabling all radios on my phone
    • Used NoData to toggle the "Blackberry" connection to DISABLED
    • Disabled Flight Mode, enabling all radios on my phone
    • Watched as Blackberry Connect successfully connected to the "Blackberry" network
So, it seems that Blackberry Connect doesn't care what the Enabled/Disabled status of the connection is set to. It just enables it and reconnects as needed.

NoData does appear to work for the regular data network (AT&T's "MEdia Net"). With it disabled, Pocket IE is unable to initiate a data connection when I try to load a web page.

Any thoughts or recommendations would be appreciated.

I changed the rom yesterday though and for some reason after I reinstalled NoData it does not list all the gprs options as before. I can only disable 2xVodafone options (MMS and Internet) which still allows my htc to connect via gprs to download stuff.

Any idea where the other gprs options went which I was able to disable before?

It shows the same on my Kiaser phone. If you run the program, you need to select the 1st option click on the toggle and this will then turn the net off, then do the same for the MMS but remember to make sure the Data is diconnected...

worked a treat for me smile.gif

Hey Paul,

As you yourself have a WM6 smartphone, could you recommend a program that serves the same purpose that can be used in a WM6 smartphone? I'm using a Motorola Q9h from Vodafone in Australia.

Thanks very much for this!!

As most of you know, Windows Live Messenger on Windows Mobile 6 (and I heard WM6 in general) searches for a GPRS connection, even when connected to WiFi sad.gif

So this is great in order to run it.

Although when I don't have free access to WiFi, WLM doesn't sign in on my GPRS.. the ports seem blocked on my GPRS data plans (anyone know what ports it uses?). I have to use mig33, eMSN, TipicME or other Java MSN clients which use proxies. However they disconnect way too often compared to WLM.

I'm using a Samsung SCH-i760 on Verizon, and when I installed this program, I only had one network to disable: BroadBandAccess.

The reason I downloaded this program is because I was referred to it in another forum, when asking how I can avoid using Verizon's pay-per-kB data network, and still use MMS. A user there said he/she/it was using it and it blocked BBA, but not SMS/MMS/Phone connections.

Unfortunately, I installed the program, disabled my only choice, and immediately tried to send a picture message... The message didn't send.

I went back into NoData and enabled the BBA network and sent the same picture message from the DRAFTS folder, and it sent with no problem at all.

Is there any way to use SMS/MMS/Phone while blocking pay-as-you-go data usage?

This works well, but it'd be nice to use it via the command-line, and without confirmations and pings. I'm thinking in terms of being able to use it with SBSH's PhoneWeaver so that I have an item that turns WiFi on & GPRS off, vice versa, just GPRS off, etc. I know that I can do that by creating a non-functional Internet entry and toggling that or my provider's entry in PhoneWeaver. But using nodata is more elegant and eliminates the 'cannot connect with your settings' pop-ups.

Any possibility of adding command-line switches? -- something like a numerical or free-text switch to select the item from the GPRS items list, and another for on or off (or just toggle), and (perhaps) another for prompt/silent

A great little tool, so thanks anyway if this isn't possible.

help

after installing this app i can no longer dial out or send texts, what registry value has been chnged so i can correct this

EDIT:

some more info i have found

WIFI and Bluetooth still work, GPRS, telephone and text do not
i have the orange operator logo and signal strength indicator but the big G has gone
when my girlfriend tries to call my phone she is rewarded with "network busy"
if i try to call out i get "dialing" displayed for a few seconds then it hangs up with "call ended"

i have tried toggeling all the options within the NODATA program with no luck
i have 5 options in the program
1 - enabled
2 - enabled
Orange GPRS WAP - Enabled
Orange Interntet - Enabled
Orange MMS - Enabled

not sure what other info i can supply but hope you can help me

dave

i will also add that it is entirly possibe this is a ntwork problem and nothing to do with NODATA, though i have never had this before and it does seem odd that it coincided with the installation of the software

Edit 2

i hav tried my SIM in another phone and it works, so i guess i can rule out network trouble

Edit 3

A hard reset has fixed my device, but reinstalling NODATA causes the problem again. Is there any info i can provide for you for debugging purposes before i reinstall all my phone software?

Hi there. I tried instaling this app but it seems to have no effect on my WM6 HTC Touch. Regardless of what I disable the phone stille connects to EDGE and GPRS like before.
Are there any similar apps anyone could recomend? My phone keeps connecting to GPRS even though I have set all my programs to not connect automatically.

Hmmm, that's not good, let me check it out!

Let' s hope for Paul to find a solution for us. biggrin.gif

I've an HTC Touch (Rogers wireless in Canada) and nodata works fine for me -- except that you need to manually close a data connection if you've already established one.

So the sequence is toggle GPRS off with nodata; then hold down the disconnect phone button (right button) until the quick list comes up. Then press the "Terminate data connection" selection. You're done.

The registry change that nodata makes works fine so if you reset the Touch GPRS will still be unavailable.

Unless I haven' t understood what you are saying, I strongly disagree with you. The purpose of the NO DATA program, I believe, is that after you set it up, i.e running this program to toggle between various connections that exist in your mobile and make the choices you wish, is to protect you and keep these settings no matter what, unless you run this program again. When you can still get connected to some of the "disabled" networks these settings when reviewed you can see that have been changed, then this program does not work.

Posted by: fozzie Jan 25 2008, 10:57

The purpose of the app is to prevent applications from starting up a data connection. If you've already got one open then you'll need to close it manually. wink.gif

What you are saying it makes completely sense.
Let me ask you something. When
1. you first setup the No DATA
2. should there any connections take place - WITHOUT YOUR OK - to a specific network although set as "DISABLED", without my OK ? and of course modify your settings to "ENABLED" as a result of this ?
3. to open one connection ( which means that you do really want to open it), it is completely logical to close it manually. In other words I do not disagree with what you are saying. smile.gif

Hi. I'm trying NoData on my Vodafone V1415 (HTC S710) WM6 smartphone.
I've now installed it twice from the CAB file (previously loaded into My Documents via Windows Mobile Device Center).
The second installation was done after initial problems and after removing both NoData and Efficasoft GPRS Monitor.
Both times I have the same problem.

Bit of background first...

I have 5 profiles of GPRS defined and offered to me in NoData.

Business Email
Contract Internet
Contract WAP
PAYT Internet
PAYT WAP

I recall also that Efficasoft GPRS Monitor listed connections to be monitored such as (these are approximations as program now removed):

WWAN-Internet-1
WWAN1

I can (still) access my mail and the web via GPRS so there are valid connections present.

When I run NoData, I get the 5 profiles listed above (all showing Enabled) and when I try to toggle any of them I get the following error:

"Error

An unexpected error has occurred in NoData.exe. Select Quit and then restart this program, or select Details for more information.

I got this error after a hard reset and went to go and disable the registry entries manually. It was then that I discovered that there were no registry entries! I'd forgotten to run the connection set-up wizard to create the data connections in the first place.

Paul could you add a check for this and exit more gracefully if Nodata fails to find the connections branch in the registry.

Use Active Sync on your Windows Xp, copy the cab file to your Device, go to File Explorer on your device (I assume that TyTN II is compatible with this s/w, I have an HTC P33450 (Touch, also known as Elf in some parts that has a Windows Mobile 6 Operating System, WM6 in short). Once the cab file is copied on your device, just double click the same and it will install on your phone.

Excellent application. Will be used daily by me. smile.gif
Any chance you could make two small standalone scripts or apps to turn a connection on/off? That way I could schedule them to run at a certain times in accordance with the free usage on my data plan.

Could also be accomplished by adding a scheduling option in your app, but I guess that would be a lot more work?

Thanks for your work, hope you will be able to help me.

*Edit* I'd also manage if I knew what registry keys control enabling/disabling the profiles? There are other apps that can schedule registry changes.. smile.gif

Since there was no reply-post to my the above request, I would like to know, kindly, if there is going to be one.
Any reply, of course, does not mean solution of the problem but since the meaning of the word "forum" is to exchange ideas, waiting for an answer indefinetly causes uneasiness.
I can easily understand of the more important things that the head of the forum deals with, so please accept my apologies again.

P.S. In my post Feb 07 I write " ... that Smacmillan - and myself (agreed)" this wrong as the person that I agreed on was "Simen".

This is my first post and all I have to say is…awesome! I saw some comments in various posts about people having compatibility problems with smartphones in general and the HTC S710 specifically. I’d just like to say it works perfect with the VOX, no worries at all.

The little ‘E’ is gone but I assume it’s OK if the big ‘E’ still remains? Thanks again, I’m so happy to be free of AT&T’s insidious plan to squeeze every penny from my wallet. Somehow I think it’s not an accident that phones don’t have the ability to switch off GPRS built-in.

Hi. Post #133 refers (pretty long with all the info. so I thought better not to repeat it!).

I'm still having the same difficulty and appear to have the necessary GPRS accounts set up (e.g. continues to retrieve mail).

Could some kind person (possibly a HTC S710/Vodafone v1415 owner) who has this working please help with a step by step.
I thought my phone was "app unlocked" but I'm quite happy to do it (again) with guidance. One particular thing I'm struggling with is, for my v1415 do I need "RemoveSecurity.cab" and/or "SDA Application Unlocker" mentioned in the first post?

Normally I'm pretty good at persevering etc. but I'm having a bit of a brain fart on this one. I don't want to goose the phone by running the wrong thing in the wrong place and I'm off on holiday soon.

Help appreciated.

Thank you so much for this little application! - I cannot comprehend why this has not been included in windows mobile for smartphones - here in Denmark, with my current mobile phone provider, i have to pay high charges, and sometimes the phone itself just connects - when i think i'm using wifi, it starts using edge/gprs.. and that's way too expensive when i can connect to my home WiFi.

Again - thank you for an application i have been looking for though some time now!

In your post # 122, you are saying that you would check out the problem of post #121 ( ... I have the same problem), but since then there was no reply from you, regarding this.
I will be very happy, if you tell me that you took care of it, as I consider this application of yours very much worthy but only ... if it works correctly.

Should this application work for me?

I tried it and it appears to block the internet (but I do have to reboot first).  Just wanted to see if anyone else has tried it with CDMA phones and if it does indeed work properly with them.

I'm going to Mexico and I wasnt to make sure there's no chance of unexpected data charges.

I could invoke Nodata by another app (e.g. phone weaver) at a given time (run \nodata.exe -[parameter])... this would solve the problem. So what should be the parameter to turn on/off the data connections?

Thanks for your help!

Hello,

I am new to the tilt phone, as well as using the internet in general on a phone. I downloaded the nodata.cab file onto my phone. However, when using file explorer to open the program and run it this is what it says: There is no applicatio associated with "nodata." Run the application first, then open this file from within the application.

How do I get this program to operate on my phone?? ANy suggestions..sorry for being so ignorant about all of this!

Try re-naming the file to nodata.cab then executing it again. It looks like the file extension is missing!

Or more likely it's just not displaying extensions of known file types...

EDIT:

Here is the error that I am getting:

And I did successfully run SDA Application Unlock on my phone... so I don't know what the problem is. Please help because I really need this app to work (I have no data plan).

Thanks Paul. I'm new here and have a quick question. I loaded NoData on to my old 8125 (for my kid) and was able to run it after updating dot Net. I turned off all of the data items in the list and it seems to work great (no data connections working). I turned on WiFi and connected to my home network. I was not able to use the web browser with WiFi. Is there a setting that I need to make to allow IE to work over WiFi with all the other data streams disabled? I have used WiFi succesfully on this device in the past.

P.S. I just got a Tilt on Monday and I plan on installing it there as well. Your site is great.

Thank you,

Go to Settings>Personal>Menus and untick the NoData icon. It should then appear in your programs list and not on the start menu.

If someone knows the answer then they will reply, if no-one knows the answer you will not get a reply. Who do you expect to reply and why? It is a free app, if you don't like it then remove it. No one gets paid for helping you, we help if we can but if we can't then what's the point of replying?

I appreciate your answering. Whatever you are saying is very logical and I will not argue with you.

I know it is a free app. and of course it is my right to remove it or not, but the reason why I come to ask for an answer- newer version is that this app. is very much worthy, but only if it functions correctly.

I will disagree with you in one point.
There many sites with freeware having also forums, to which the hosts answer to a possible problem, that a user could have, and possibly admitting that there is a problem in the given software when being operated with a certain mobile device ( although he could have been silent and not to answer at all). He could also promise that in a newer version this problen will be taken care of.

I appreciated your app. so much that I "insisted" on that type of "answering", to know that it will be worthwhile to wait for a probable newer version, than to forget the whole app. immediately.

Thanks for the hospitality.

Posted by: Confucious Jul 24 2008, 16:37

It's not my App. Paul, the owner of this site 'knocked it up' for his own use and was kind enough to share with us.

Posted by: rupert_hollom Jul 31 2008, 14:44

Any chance that a command line option could be added to it? I use PhoneWeaver and would like it run the NoData app to disable all Connections when there is a holiday entry in the agenda - then I don't have to remember to do anything - other than re-enable the connections when I get from the holiday!

Well, I got it to work now on my BJ2.

what you have to do is:
1-uninstall the program (nodata) if you have it installed
2- install the http://www.modaco.com/content-page/116301/motorola-mpx220-and-audiovox-smt6500-app-locked/page/15/. (post #27)

The reason I did NOT think that would be the answer is because that is simple APP unlocking - it explains UncleBeer's error but not the others.
Everyone has to App unlock to install this but there seem to be additional problems with the Samsungs.

Hi all!
First of all I have to say that this is exactly what I was looking for on my samsung i600.
I have one problem why I can't use it. I don't want to unlock my phone, because then I would not only unlock it for NoData, but also for any other application.

The simple workaround I found that really works.(no data roaming bills after traveling abroad)

- Go to settings-more-connections-GPRS.
- change for all connections that are there the connection point to an unknown url. (for me: live.vodafone.com > live.vodafone.ccc)
- After turning the i600 off and on the phone will not try to make a connection anymore!

Succes and have a nice/relaxed vacation/trip abroad!

I'm off to New Zealand in a weeks time and it would be a nightmare if data connections were active, not to mention costly! I was just wondering, I disabled my '3G' in the comm manager and then set nodata to disable my t-mobile connection. I now have a large 'G' in a white square. Does this mean that its deactivated or not?

I have tested with a browser and it says that it cannot connect with current settings. I know that sounds like its disabled but I just want to make sure incase I run up a costly bill. I was expecting some sort of 'X' for the icon instead.

Of course, silly me rolleyes.gif

OK: Translation:

I installed NoData succesfully on my HTC Diamond.
My email was set to retrieve mail via GPRS/UMTS, with the data now disabled I get (obviously) no connection.
When I change my settings to retrieve the mail from "Internet" it connects via WiFi so no problem there either.
But: Is there no way to let the email "default" to WiFi if the GPRS is disabled ? It is not user friendly to change the emailaccount settings every time I enable/disable GPRS via NoData....

The opera and explorer browsers take any connection available, why not the email ?

Thank for your time, appreciate a tip if available..

Quick, handy little application i've rustled up as i'm off abroad for a few days soon, and don't want to run up a huge GPRS bill.

I can't connect to my wifi (due to the Internet disabled, i bet). If I enable internet, i will probly have access to wifi, yeah, but also to the 3G s**t. Here in Spain ALL the data traffic is expensive (cell wise, of course). Is there any way to just get rid of the damn 3G for good? Or maybe, with some luck, a future version to split wifi traffic and whatever is needed for the 3G Paul? smile.gif

Don't get me wrong, I live in the middle of the forest (hehe), I have 6mbps at work... and I think it's right in the middle of a city. Data transfers here are a ripoff for WinMo.

I heard that the Iphone(2) inclued free data transfers up in England, here we dont even have a 10mb limit per month because no one will ever use it. Maybe some random people will, but for sure it's not something common. Could also be different in places like Madrid or Barcelona. I can't tell about those.

At home I have a 20Mb connection. I get over 1Mb on my phone and can easily down;load 500Mb in a month. I pay <£21/month for up to 900 Mins or 900 MMS or 1800 texts or any combination of the three and upto 3Gb of data.

Posted by: lordkled Nov 8 2008, 22:58

I'm jealous.

QQ. Adopt me! rofl
EDIT: Here for 60mins calls I pay about... 0,06€ iirc, i'd have to look for a bill. That's all we get, anything extra is a backstab.

(have omnia, and copied all 7 files, including the setup.xml)

Posted by: msiviter Nov 13 2008, 20:56

It's a bit weird but I still get push email with all the nodata options diasbled on my touch Diamond. Has it got some slightly different setup that nodata can't control. If it has it's a real shame as I've been using nodata for ages and it's been brilliant on my Trinity and Touch Dual on both wm5 & 6.

Help!

You don't really want me to answer that, do you? wink.gif

Copy the .cab to your phone and run it from there - as I've said mant times in this thread - do NOT 'unzip' the cab on your PC.

Try reading my post prior to your post. Copy cab abd run it on phone - how much simpler do you want?

Posted by: jagr Nov 15 2008, 09:44

is it possible to block the data connection only when you're roaming? i travel so frequently that sometimes I forget to turn it off

Posted by: Confucious Nov 15 2008, 10:17

Unfortunately not - maybe Paul could work his magic...

I would. Why not? It is an integral part of my set up now.

Posted by: Confucious Nov 15 2008, 10:42

The amount it saves people it has to be worth a quid - but practicalities of charging ? you'd have to make it very easy for people to pay.
If I was still using a WinMo device I certainly would - although it would make another good Plus benefit wink.gif

I definitely would smile.gif
If you don't mind, eliminate the "Do you really want to exit" dialog, that's just not needed.

Paul, which registry keys are the ones you list here? I have 6 connections listed, some of them are old ones never used now, but I can see no way of getting rid of it without deleting it from the registry by hand. But I can't find it there...
Or does WM 6.1 provide an official way to delete them?

Posted by: itsnotmeeee Nov 17 2008, 20:39

It would depend on the features in the new version, but hell its saved me over £1.00 to date so I'd buy it.

Posted by: dreamfly Nov 18 2008, 00:18

A problem I discovered with NoData when working with Garmin Mobile XT on my Samsung BlackJack II. Prior to WM6, the GPS will take a minute or more or never to pick up any satellite signals. After WM6, the GPS will take less than 30 seconds; many times less than 10 seconds. Little did I know that the new WM6 GPS is using some kind of internet connection (in my case, my ATT bill says “wap.cingular Internet/MEdia Net Sent 13KB”) while doing the sync up with the satellites. This could be due to WM6 or due to the newest version of Garmin Mobile XT that I updated. But NoData was successfully blocking the data conncection. The problem is now the GPS will revert back to the old slow picking up of satellite signals. After a few weeks of trial and error, I narrowed down to this particular connection “Media Net”. I wonder if any BJ II users having similar experience?

Hi first post here, and its solved a big problem with my omnia. Thanks. program appears to work fine, all installed ok.

Posted by: kom4 Nov 19 2008, 14:11

Hi! i've just installed nodata, it seems to not work propertly.

I've a SGH i600 (smartphone)

The error is Error writing the RegistryKey

.. i've rebooted the device... but still not work.

Any hint? i've to unlock some registry path?

Posted by: kom4 Nov 19 2008, 14:34

ok i've unocked the registry... but if i click on "messenger" or internet exploDeD is connected...

Is Possible that this didn't work?

Added quidapp donate details in first post, if you use this app, please consider donating to support future developments (including the new version to be released shortly).

I would -- assuming that the update lost the confirmation window and sound (command-line switches?)

And herein lies the concept of quidapps and donation, pay your quid and tell us what you'd like to see!

Requests I've heard so far...

- No confirmation window on exit
- Command line mode for enable / disable all
- Auto-run when leaving / arriving in roaming

Things I want to add...

- Slightly nicer UI
- New icon
- Disconnect data connection programatically when disabling connections
- Toggle all button

I can not get the NoData program to run on my Q9h Silver (AT&T) with WM6.1. Should it work? If not, would this "improved" version run on my phone?

Also have an i600 and it worked perfectly.
Make sure that you disconnect the cable from the pc as the cell phone can use this connection to access the Internet (mine did...)

NoData doesn't work for me. After installation the WLAN connection is greyed out in the Communication Manager and I can't toggle the WiFi connection from there anymore. Meanwhile toggling the GPRS internet setting (in No Data) doesn't seem to have any effect on the GPRS internet connection. I have a HTC touch 3G (WM 6.1). Any suggestions?

Wow! I LOVE THIS APPLICATION!

I am totally donating for this. I can't imagine how many unwanted data charges this is going to save me. Probably hundreds a year. Thank you so much for the app.

works a treat on my Touch HD! thanks for the program! smile.gif

I just wanted to say Thank You, for the little useful program.
I recently purchased a Samsung Epix and NoData is helping me keep internet usage through my provider's network at a bare minimum, while utilizing the wi-fi capability of my phone.

Thanks for the application, but just out of curiosity,
when i run this app, I am faced with two elements:

Mobile Web - ENABLED / DISABLED
02 Active - ENABLED / DISABLED

what is the difference between the two?

Hello to all, I have used no data in the past with the ATT 8525 (HTC-Hermes) and no data worked perfectly. Just switched over to the samsung epix and loaded no data. N-D gives me the option to toggle ATT IMS, Isp and media net. with all 3 optons toggled off I am unable to get online thru my wifi connection. The epix makes every attempt to get online but can not. If i toggle on media net i can then get on line with the wifi connection but then am incurring data charges. Any ideas or tips on this. BTW I would donate to the No Data fund biggrin.gif if it will work on the epix.

Posted by: hoopyfrood Dec 22 2008, 19:58

Seems to work fine on the epix I just bought... the wifi stopped working, but I don't think it's a nodata issue. Big G or E there, no little ones, all that good stuff. I haven't tested received a text message back yet, but that's more likely a measure of my popularity.

Quick question:
There are three choices for me to disable.
ATT IMS-enabled (was disabled when I first openned it)
ATT ISP-enabled
MEdia Net-disabled (the one I disabled)

Is media net the only one that needs to be disabled?

I have a messaging plan, but no data plan, if that makes any difference in which ones should be checked.

Oh, and thanks a lot for the awesome program!

Posted by: hoopyfrood Dec 23 2008, 02:36

Oh, and is this supposed to permanently get rid of the 3G stuff? Because it automatically reconnects if my wifi goes out and I'm trying to connect to the internet. Maybe it only does that after I turn my phone off.

Depends on what data connection(s) your phone and applications are set to use.

It disables the connection - it should remain disabled until you enable it again!
