Backup my current ROM?

I'd like to try flashing my ROM but wanted to make a backup copy of my system as it is - i.e. not just files, contacts etc. but the full ROM. Something similar to what desktop utilities like Acronis TrueImage do for PCs.

Is it possible to do something similar with Omnia / WinMo?

Yeah mate, use the attached file. Put the file onto your SD Card (make sure you have roughly 300-400mb free). Run the program, not much will happen, patiently wait till it says 'operation complete' or something like that ;)

dskdump.exe

Thanks, that sounds good! If things go wrong with my new ROM, will I be able to easily restore it to my phone?

http://www.modaco.com/content/i8000-verizo...60/dskdump-2-0/

Steps:

1. Dump ROM using Sorg Utility (dskdump.exe)

2. Rename the rom_dump.bin to PDA.nb or I can use 02Util to convert it to .nb

in the link of O2Util

http://www.modaco.com/content/i8000-omnia-...lity-for-i8000/

1) Turn a binary dump (the 'pda_dump.bin' that generates Sorg' utility), into a flashable NB0 ROM.

For cookers, it also serves to pack a 'pda.os.nb' file (the one you cooked with osnbtool.exe, etc), into a flashable NB0 ROM.

-nb0pack <rom_name> <os.nb_filename,pda_dump.bin etc> [ <nb0_destination_file ]

The tool deals with checksum, file size adjustment, and creates the proper header, labeling your rom <rom_name>.

edit:

i try this on O2 and get rom_dump.bin file only 256 kb????

Has anyone here actually tried to restore the previous ROM after it has been backed up by dskdump.exe? Were you successful?

i don't really understand why you want to backup one rom.

the best it's just to download it using the firmware downloader.

disk dumper will only partially dump the rom int he language you have selected.

if you want to flash just flash the pda using a nb0 file.

if you want to go back to your original rom just do a language change and it will flash back using the back up in hidden partition.because flashing a nbo is not overwriting the hidden partition.

Here's the scenario:

I am using one ROM and have installed a lot applications with some customization to my preference. Then I want to try another new ROM but afraid of having to turn back to the ROM I'm using. Currently I use backup program e.g. Spb backup. Once I want to go back using the old ROM, then I have to flash the original ROM that I was using, then restore my backup.

I was also thinking to backup my current ROM with all my apps and customization in it so that when I want to come back, just flash the backup ROM.
