Wileyfox, purveyors of high quality yet low cost Android Smartphones, are looking to disrupt the market by introducing cut price, lock screen ad supported versions of their devices branded ‘Add-X’. Initially offered on the Swift 2 Plus, Swift 2, Spark X and Spark +, Add-X will also be extended to the Swift 2 X in the coming months. The cost savings against RRP are impressive, although in reality reductions are offset by the fact that retailers (e.g. Amazon) typically carry the devices at a decent discount already. Add-X offers adverts that are tailored to the user’s age and gender on the lockscreen while still allows access to notifications. Users swipe right to unlock their phone as normal and swipe left to see more.
MoDaCo team member Simon Lovejoy writes "The power of smart phone photography caught me by surprise really. After returning from a trip to New York I realised that almost all of my pictures were taken on my humble Moto G in glorious 5mp quality rather than the 14mp compact camera we took with us. The Moto was always right there when we needed it. So for a recent trip to Kenya and Zambia the question was what if we threw some more glory at the smart phone? Thanks to Huawei, I took the not even nearly humble Huawei P9 with its’ dual Leica lenses and 12mp sensors to find out."
Honor have this evening announced their new, dual camera, mid range champion, the Honor 6X. You know what that means? We've already started work on enthusiasts / developer tools for the device!
At CES in Las Vegas, Honor have today announced their latest smartphone release for the UK, Europe and the US - the £225 Honor 6X. The 5.5", full HD handset packs dual 12 Megapixel / 2 Megapixel cameras, 32GB ROM, 3GB RAM, a fingerprint reader and the Kirin 655 processor - a small update to the critically acclaimed Kirin 650 previously featured in the surprisingly snappy Honor 5C.
Curve, the virtual credit / debit card that has already launched on iOS has finally launched out of private Beta on Android and is downloadable now from the Play Store. If you sign up with the code 'TBXZH', you will then be credited with £5 the first time you use the card. For each friend you refer, you will get an additional £5. Pretty great really, who doesn't like free money?
If you have been waiting for Samsung to update your Samsung Galaxy S7/ S7 Edge to the latest Nougat goodness, then you are in luck, sort of. Samsung has started the Nougat Beta programme in the UK for their flagship devices.
Good news Honor 8 owners! Honor are giving some of you the chance to help us test out EMUI 5 and Android N on your Honor 8. Sounds great yeah? Just remember this is going to be pre-release software, things may be broken, you may end up struggling to use your phone, but if that's all good they want you to help them find & squash the bugs.
A few weeks ago Android Developers at Google had announced that Android 7.1 would come in the form of a Developer Preview, first for the older Nexus devices to the dismay of many Nexus owners. Almost a week ago they officially announced that the preview would come to Nexus users within the month of October. Well it is finally out today.
With the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 truly finished, what other devices are out there to replace this device? First of all let's look at what made Galaxy Note 7 great, it had great camera, screen, performance, build and battery life.
I have only had a Pixel for a few days now, so I’m not ready to do a full review, but I can give you my first impressions. I’m also taking questions on Twitter, so feel free to hit me up. I have the Pixel XL, the 5.5” model which is also joined by the 5” ‘regular’ Pixel. As well as the smaller screen, the junior model also has a FHD rather than QHD screen and a 2770mAh battery rather than the 3450mAh cell in the XL. Those tweaks aside, the specs are the same - you get a Snapdragon 821 processor, 4GB RAM, 32GB or 128GB storage, a rear mounted fingerprint reader, metal chassis with a glass panel, a choice of silver or black (I have a Silver XL) and, of course, Android 7.1, currently a Pixel exclusive and with exclusive Pixel features too.
