Thanks to Tim Williams for the TIPoff... Opera 8.65 BETA for Windows Mobile has been released!

Available for immediate download from the Opera for Windows Mobile download area, version 8.65 adds a whole host of new features, and is the first to combine Smartphone and Pocket PC support into one common version. The main Opera Mobile site will be updated shortly.

"The Opera 8.65 mobile Web browser for Windows Mobile is designed with speed and ease-of-use in mind. The version is available for Microsoft Smartphones and PocketPC's, WM 5 and WM 2003."

Please remember this is a Beta release, so if it sleeps with your wife / kicks your dog etc. you can only hold yourself responsible. ;)

New features include:

  • Grab and Scroll (PocketPC only)
  • Web search in addressbar
  • Save image
  • Copy text
  • Send link as e-mail, sms, and mms
  • Import IE bookmarks
  • Languages
  • Support for Macromedia Flash Player 7 for Pocket PCs
  • FlashLite 2.1

That's in addition to the already considerable list of features:

  • Multiple Windows
  • Tabbed browsing (Pocket PC only)
  • Zoom
  • Download
  • Navigation and history
  • Bookmarks
  • Landscape/Portrait Mode
  • Pop-up handler
  • Pad-lock icon on secure sites
  • User preferences
  • Context menu
  • Web address auto complete
  • Change encoding
  • Desktop mode and Fit to Screen
  • Plugin API (Netscape)

  • Enjoy!

Anyone had any luck with the 'Grab and Scroll' feature?

Doesn't seem to work on mine, or have I missed a setting somewhere ;)

Forget that, it seems to work now after I closed the app and opened it again :D

When I download a file, after a couple of seconds, it totally freezes my device (I-mate SP5m).

I'm using it on a WPA-protected wifi network.

But I think it's more of a ROM problem, than opera's.....

It is very good though... I like being able to watch youtube video's on my phone...

installed it to the storage card of my Vario II

had to do a soft reset before it would run.

youtube videos load,

but playback is really bad, like at 1 frame per second.

how is it on your phone jimbouk?

Works great in my qtek8310. I have been able to download without any problems. The only problem i´ve found is that it uses device memory as cache (i installed it on storage card)

I installed it on my Ameo and it simply replaced the built in browser.

It IS a newer build than the one on the Ameo (see http://Athena.MoDaCo.com!), but I don't know if it fixes that bug or not.

Maybe try Netfront too?
