HTC announces 'HTC One with Nexus User Experience'

HTC have just announced the 'HTC One with Nexus User Experience' - the much rumoured HTC One with the stock Android experience.

To be available in the US only initially (important point - INITIALLY!), the 'special edition' device is priced at $599 and out of the box will run Android 4.2.2 with subsequent software updates provided by Google.

The device will be available via Google Play from June 26th and includes 32GB storage (unlike the 64GB equipped developer edition).

More details can be found on the HTC blog.

It's pretty likely that flashing the software onto 'regular' HTC One devices won't be too tricky with an unlocked bootloader, so this is good news for everyone. But... are you sure you want to give up all the HTC niceties (camera etc.) to get that stock experience?

Edit: HTC state that 'The HTC One special edition bootloader can be unlocked by standard method for “Nexus experience” devices'. fastboot oem unlock ahoy! :D

HTC finally gets some sense and allows us to buy a phone without sense :). I will be getting one of these...

hmmm... wonder if this is the way forward rather than "Nexus brand" devices. either way it should mean more freedom of choice re: hardware/software/UX combination.

love the build quality of htc devices, hate sense and the bloatware....

Bit of a lot compared to Google's aggressive Nexus pricing strategy... Wouldn't say no to one though haha.

aggressive pricing is nothing if you can't supply the demand.....

I wonder if they will release the camera app as an add-on? It would seem pretty strange if they didn't.

An HTC Nexus One, wait, what? lol

I am wondering if the hardware will be the same? If so, HTC One will be getting the most fresh updates as soon as HTC Nexus one does :)
