Motorola announce the LTE enabled G and the Moto E

Motorola have announced the LTE enabled G and the new, ultra low end Moto E.

The Moto G is by far our favourite flagship device here at MoDaCo and arguably the only really significant feature it was lacking was LTE. This deficiency has now been rectified with a new model that sits above the current G in the lineup, priced at £149.

At a shade over £100 on the street, the non-LTE Moto G is certainly not heavy on the wallet, but the new Moto E is set to be even kinder to your bank account, with a RRP of £89 (and a street price likely slightly lower). Packing decidedly entry level specs but continuing with the Moto X / Moto G design language, the E isn't a bad looking device and is set to take on competitor devices in a highly competitive space with such classics as the Samsung Galaxy Ace range. ;)

The E has a 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon 200 processor, 1GB of RAM, 4GB of storage (with microSD expansion), a 4.3" 960 x 540 display with Gorilla Glass 3, a 1980mAh battery and a 5 megapixel camera. Like the Moto G, the E has a removable back (but not a removable battery). Too much compromise on specs for a relatively small drop in price compared to it's sibling? We'll let you know when we get our grubby paws on it!

Others disagree, but a spec slash too far for me on the E.......... no selfie cam? ;)

I would grade the lacking sd-card slot much higher, the non removable battery is also a bummer.

It was a fine offering when it got out, but now, with the prices of g4mini slowly approaching the same territory its a bad deal.
Much better camera, replaceable battery, sd-card slot for 20 euro more?

The prices will probably plummet even more when the g5mini will get out

Unless they are pulling the moto g 3g, why would you buy the e instead for £10 less?

Emerging markets makes more sense for the e rather than the UK.

Sure it will sell well though and it really sends a shot to samsung / huawei / sony on how to make a sub £100 phone

The E is £40 less based on RRP.

At present the G is available for £99 from O2 and the E will be £80 on O2 PAYG.

I suspect the compromises in spec are well worth it for a significant reduction in price - a fifth or so cheaper.

(edited for price clarifications)

I read elsewhere that the Moto G LTE also has a micro SD slot too so if true puts this phone back at the top of the pile for me.

There is one more important difference that you left out: the g4 mini has 540 x 960 while the moto g has 720 x 1280. That makes the g4 a non-starter for a lot of people I think.

I think this is a great move by Motorola, the moto g was a budget favourite but to add 4g and micro SD makes it even better, had they made the battery removable it really would have covered all the issues people had with it
