Rumours have been circulating for some time now that Google are looking to release a Nexus Tablet to compete with the Amazon Kindle Fire. Digitimes have continued the rumour by quoting 'sources' who say Google are working on the device with Asus. Asus are themselves due to launch their 7" tablet, the MeMo 370T, this year and they had it on their demonstration rack at CES in January. Asus have been chosen due to their 'Original Design Manufacturer' history, essentially they have made devices in the past for other companies to sell with their badge. According to the quoted sources HTC turned down the opportunity to build the device as they were 'unwilling to develop a low-price model to impair its brand image'. Let's hope they have some tablets of their own up their sleeve then as their output so far is pretty much 2 devices.
If the talk is true then we can expect to see a Google tablet launched sometime in May. No details of specifications have been leaked, but we can expect the pricing to be in line with the Kindle Fire and the MeMo 370T so a $200-250 price tag.
What would you like to see in a Google tablet at that price point? To compete with the MeMo 370T they need to go all out with their specifications, or simply have the MeMo as their branded device. With a 1280x800 screen and a Tegra 3 chip it should suit their needs.
