Why are Nexus accessories so expensive and so late?

The genuine covers for the Nexus 10 have finally arrived on the Play Store. Late and overpriced... why, Google?

It's not just the Nexus 10 that has suffered... Some Galaxy Nexus accessories never even appeared, the Nexus 4 bumper has been in and out of stock (more out than in) ever since launch, the Nexus 7 dock took for ever to arrived, the Nexus 7 cases were late and there's still no officially accessory to do anything with the pogo pins on the Nexus 10. Oh yes, and there's no wireless charging orb for the Nexus 4 in the UK. What gives?

It's not just timing and availability either. What about pricing? Here's some examples (note that combined items may reduce the cost of delivery)...
Yup, really, £15.98 for a MICRO USB CABLE!

The Nexus 7 situation isn't much better...
And finally...
Now, I don't know what the folks at Google are smoking - maybe it's a way to make a bit of money after selling the devices so cheaply, or maybe it's a commendable effort to support the third party accessory market - but it's ridiculous and incredibly frustrating for Nexus owners.

Thoughts? Sort it out Google!

I agree that the prices can be better. But on the other hand ... have you compared it with the accessories prices from Apple, HTC or Samsung? It doesn't seem to be significantly more expensive - at least on a quick look. It seems to me that everyone is trying to make money on accessories ...

The delays ... that is a bit different story.

J.

...and even if I was a die-hard Nexus fan and hell-bent to buy overpriced accessories, so many of them are not available (here in Germany) anyway:
  • Charging Orb for the Nexus 4: Not available (not even listed)
  • Nexus 4 Bumper: Not available
  • Nexus 7 Dock: Not available

I got the Nexus earbuds. Love em. They also look great, with machined metal look; they are LGs but only retail packaging is labeled, earphones have a really nice X on the back.
Price was ok...but with shipping, and tax...was pricy. I wish more Nexus accessories were available.

The problem is not so much the cost for the individual accessory but the price for postage.

Come on now Google, sort it out.

and why are they permanently out of stock?

i always wanted the galaxy nexus landscape dock but even today its still at about £45. frankly they can all go F themselves if they ever think im gonig to pay that much for a dock that does nothing but charge.

My biggest gripe in this area is the lack of Qi charging orb. Why don't we have that yet? I've had my N4 for over five months. When/if its ever available I doubt I'll bother anymore, might as well wait for the next generation. I'm considering the LG WCP-300 when thats available. The pricing on the other accessories is laughable really. £16 for a cable, as if. Who doesn't have a load lying around anyway?? Don't need a second power adapter when you can charge off of any USB port. The bumper has had poor reviews and it came a little late for me anyway, I've got a few marks on my N4 from when it slid from a seemingly flat surface onto my hallway floor, would seem like bolting the door after the horse has bolted now. The headphones look o.k but I have better headphones already.

No, I think you got it wrong! It's 4 Micro USB cables for£15.98, and 7 cases (in various colors), and 10 cov... ohh wait... no, you got it right.

Where's the chromecast? That's the one I really want!

Nexus 5 arrives... and it's worse! £25 for a simple case and £35 for a flip one. And neither in stock.

Purchased a Spigen Ultra Hybrid for my Nexus 5 on Amazon for £7.90 all inclusive. Sometimes the third party product may be better in quality than OE, not just for cost of purchase which is why I never purchase OE.

What are those four pogo pins for, or have I missed something
