  1. This device looks ideal to me except for one key issue - whether 3rd party apps will run on the 400x240 WQVGA screen. I have the same concern for the Xperia X1 at 800x480. The HTC Touch Pro with have normal VGA 640x480 which at least scales to QVGA directly, which I assume will be less problematic. I don't know the extent that 3rd party apps will run on the i900. I'm particularly concerned about a few KEY apps that have a history of not updating on a timely basis, such as: Slingbox Live 365 Internet Radio app Mobi-reader (I also use Coreplayer a lot but I have confidence that they will update if needed quickly.) Has anyone tried these apps in a non-standard resolution? Tony
  2. Although I admire the effort here, this app has some problems. First off, there are no color options for the GPS or WiFI on the right side LED. In fact, it turns both OFF with no way to turn them back on other then uninstalling and rebooting. Secondly, when charging, there is no longer any indication of a solid LED nor does it turn green (or whatever color) when fully charged. These two things are fairly major omissions. Not to mention the amber color problem noted above. The shortcut also doesn't show up under "Programs", just on the start menu, which is strange. Hopefully these issues can be addressed. It's almost still worth installing since I REALLY want that missed phone call left LED notification to be RED - amber is just to close to green. But still too many issues to keep this one installed. Tony
  3. I'm looking for some cool dialer skins to replace the default on on the Tilt. I've tried the HTC flat black one as well (the one from the TyTN II), but I did not like it. Has anyone tried any of these Dialer Skins on the Tilt (or TyTN II)? http://www.paulya.com/dialerskins.htm If so, did they work? If not, can anyone recommend any others that DO work? Tony
  4. What is the LATEST version of the HTC Today Home Screen plug-in and where can I get it? Also, does that include the time and weather in it? Tony
  5. I finally DID get GPS to work WITHOUT a hard reset even though I changed settings in ExternalGPS. I used another free small app to get the satellite fix like you indicated, then Google Maps found me fairly quickly and was able to track my position from then on. As for the Wi-Fi issue, I AM now connecting when I turn "ON" the Wi-Fi on the phone. However, I'm not sure if it REALLY using the Wi-Fi connections or if it's still using the 3G connection. It wasn't working at first and then it just started to work WITHOUT me changing anything, which makes me believe that maybe the phone sees the same Wi-Fi connection and knows it doesn't work, so it just uses the 3G network instead whenever it comes across that Wi-Fi access point. Is there any way to tell WHICH it is ACTUALLY using? Is there a way to turn OFF the 3G / Edge network temporarily such that I can be sure that the Wi-Fi is actually working? Thanks! Tony
  6. I just purchased a Tilt a few days ago and I can't seem to get either my GPS or my WIFI to work. ;) Here are some details: 1) GPS Problems - I tried to find my GPS location using Google Maps and Live Search and neither could find my GPS location, even after running the QuickGPS program and being outside with full signal strength. Google maps doesn't even search for it (it thinks I don't even have GPS). I don't know what the issue could be, but before I tried anything I DID run the "External GPS" program on the phone accidentally. I didn't change any settings initially, but I've read here that messing with that can screw up the GPS from EVER working unless you do a hard reset. When it didn't work, I also played around with the External GPS software COM setting, which might have screwed eveything up even further, but I'm sure I set them back to what they were originally. Any ideas on what might be wrong? I'm trying to avoid a hard reset if possible. 2) WIFI Problems - I'm trying to use Wi-Fi on the Tilt and I'm not having any luck connecting to it with Internal Explorer. I've gotten connections from various WiFi sites, including my home network. It shows me signal strength on the Tilt and says "connected". I get the WiFi "connected" (non-flashing) icon in the tile bar. I've turned on the WiFi in comm manager. However, whener I try connecting to a sight from internet explorer, I get an error message saying "Cannot connect with current connection settings....". This happens with EVERY Wifi site I connect to. Any ideas as to what might be wrong? PLEASE HELP!! These issues are driving me crazy........ Thanks in advance. Tony
  7. That's not Amazon actually selling it, but rather a 3rd party seller with a 50% positive rating. So I'd like to see who's willing to pay $200+ more from an unreputable dealer, he he. Tony
  8. You are nuts if you believe anything anybody says at this point. Sales people at AT&T stores know absolutely NOTHING, and if they ARE telling you something, the source is probably all the same stupid blogs we've all been reading for the past 8 months. I can guarantee that this phone will have GPS - it would be ridiculous for AT&T to disable this feature, whereas eliminating the front camera DOES make sense since there is no current use in the USA. So everyone relax about the release dates and feature set. Unless we here something OFFICIAL from AT&T themselves, just ignore everything you read. I'd guess that this will be out in October sometime, which is fine. I might go for the Sprint Vogue instead anyway. ;) And hey, isn't the Polaris also due sometime this year from AT&T with VGA, a compass and an FM radio? And a 3G iPhone soon with real GPS and 3rd party apps? Waiting is not all that bad - it gives you more choices. It'll be an interesting next 6 months. Tony
  9. Well, in THEORY yes. And I don't think they'd ever catch it, but AT&T's "Plan Terms" SPECIFICALLY forbids it. You can look yourself under the "Plan Terms" item at the bottom of this page: http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-phone-ser...phone-plans.jsp or if you're too lazy ;) , here's the section (note that the CAPS are AT&T's emphasis, the bold is mine): "Prohibited and Permissible Uses: Data Service sessions may be conducted only for the following purposes: (i) Internet browsing; (ii) email; and (iii) corporate intranet access (including access to corporate email, customer relationship management, sales force automation, and field service automation applications). PROHIBITED USES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO, USING SERVICES: (I) WITH SERVER DEVICES OR WITH HOST COMPUTER APPLICATIONS, INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, WEB CAMERA POSTS OR BROADCASTS, CONTINUOUS JPEG FILE TRANSFERS, AUTOMATIC DATA FEEDS, TELEMETRY APPLICATIONS, PEER-TO-PEER (P2P) FILE SHARING, AUTOMATED FUNCTIONS OR ANY OTHER MACHINE-TO-MACHINE APPLICATIONS; (II) AS SUBSTITUTE OR BACKUP FOR PRIVATE LINES OR DEDICATED DATA CONNECTIONS; (III) FOR VOICE OVER IP; (IV) IN CONJUNCTION WITH WWAN OR OTHER APPLICATIONS OR DEVICES WHICH AGGREGATE USAGE FROM MULTIPLE SOURCES PRIOR TO TRANSMISSION; (V) USING THE SERVICES FOR ANY ACTIVITY THAT ADVERSELY AFFECTS THE ABILITY OF OTHER PEOPLE OR SYSTEMS TO USE EITHER THE SERVICES OR OTHER PARTIES' INTERNET-BASED RESOURCES INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO EXCESSIVE CONSUMPTION OF NETWORK OR SYSTEM RESOURCES (WHETHER INTENTIONAL OR UNINTENTIONAL) AND "DENIAL OF SERVICE" (DOS) ATTACKS AGAINST ANOTHER NETWORK HOST OR INDIVIDUAL USER; OR (VI) INTERFERENCE WITH OR DISRUPTION OF OTHER NETWORK USERS, NETWORK SERVICES OR NETWORK EQUIPMENT. EXCEPT FOR CONTENT FORMATTED IN ACCORDANCE WITH AT&T'S WIRELESS CONTENT STANDARDS, UNLIMITED PLANS CANNOT BE USED FOR UPLOADING, DOWNLOADING OR STREAMING OF VIDEO CONTENT (E.G. MOVIES, TV), MUSIC OR GAMES. FURTHERMORE, UNLIMITED PLANS (EXCEPT FOR DATACONNECT AND BLACKBERRY TETHERED) CANNOT BE USED FOR ANY APPLICATIONS THAT TETHER THE DEVICE (THROUGH USE OF, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION, CONNECTION KITS, OTHER PHONE/PDA-TO-COMPUTER ACCESSORIES, BLUETOOTH® OR ANY OTHER WIRELESS TECHNOLOGY) TO LAPTOPS, PCS, OR OTHER EQUIPMENT FOR ANY PURPOSE." This seems to apply to ANY streaming media, including youtube (although the iPhone has this as a FEATURE) and internet radio. So, what's up this THAT? Tony
  10. Understood - but my issue is whether the AT&T unlimited data plans actually COVER streaming media as part of the plan. It looks to me like AT&T specifically FORBIDS this - see this thread: http://www.modaco.com/ATandT-Streaming-Dat...ns-t259486.html I don't know if they have a way of actually monitoring this, but I don't want to do anything again any rules since I'm a coward at heart  , and I don't want to get potentially stuck with a $2,000 phone bill. You would think that simply ASKING someone from AT&T would get you the answer, but after asking about 10 people both on the phone and in the stores, I still have not received a straight answer, and most have no idea whay the heck I'm talking about. ;) Tony
  11. Do you know if this (or ANY plan, really) includes DATA STREAMING from applications such as Slingbox? I've been trying to get this information out of AT&T for WEEKS now without any sucess. ;) Tony
  12. Yea, but what about the unlimited data plan and streaming media? Tony
  13. Like many of you in the USA, I've been waiting a long time for the AT&T Tilt to come out. Now that it's imminent, I'd thought I'd look at the AT&T data plans to make sure that there is nothing unusual that I haven't considered (I'm currently a Sprint customer). One thing I noticed in ALL of the plan terms for unlimited data, there is an expressed disallowance of STREAMING media. Here's the specific statement taken from there "Plan Terms" for all unlimted data plans (note that the CAPS are AT&T's emphasis, the bold is mine): "Prohibited and Permissible Uses: Data Service sessions may be conducted only for the following purposes: (i) Internet browsing; (ii) email; and (iii) corporate intranet access (including access to corporate email, customer relationship management, sales force automation, and field service automation applications). FURTHERMORE, UNLIMITED PLANS (EXCEPT FOR DATACONNECT AND BLACKBERRY TETHERED) CANNOT BE USED FOR ANY APPLICATIONS THAT TETHER THE DEVICE (THROUGH USE OF, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION, CONNECTION KITS, OTHER PHONE/PDA-TO-COMPUTER ACCESSORIES, BLUETOOTH® OR ANY OTHER WIRELESS TECHNOLOGY) TO LAPTOPS, PCS, OR OTHER EQUIPMENT FOR ANY PURPOSE." So, does anyone know if that means you cannot run SLINGBOX on this device under any of the AT&T data plans? This would totally suck. I called and talked to about 5 customer reps at AT&T, but OF COURSE, no one had any clue whatsoever. Tony
  14. Thanks. Let's hope it's out this week. No mention of GPS in that link, which is a little scary. Tony
  15. I asked reps at two different AT&T stores in Chicago yesterday, and neither of them had a clue, nor as anything about it on their systems. I cetainly hope you are right, but I'm still guessing it will be October 1 or later. try asking at a DIFFERENT store. Tony
