  1. £99 pay as you go

Hi Thar, When I phoned Carphone Warehouse, I asked what network the phones were on and the guy said there not locked and they issue what ever pay as you go sim card you want. I can not confirm this as I am on Vodafone.
  2. £99 pay as you go

Hi all, long time since I've posted anything here. I bought this little bad body at the weekend as a stand in for my damaged Desire S (waiting for replacement parts) I had a look around on the net to see what was available and this lovely £99.99 Pay as you go mobile struck me as darn good deal, I called my local Carphone Warehouse, they had it in stock, so I was straight down town to buy it & it's not disappointed me. Nice size, clear enough screen, lovely Sense 4 ontop of ICS. I did have a few problems with apps not loading correctly & closing or just looping, but this seems to have been fixed after I checked for any updates. There was and I updated and all is peachy. Last night I followed the guide for rooting it and all went well, the longest part was downloading up to date Android SDK. I unlocked the boot loader in accordance with the instructions on HTCdev and then carried out the root successfully. Good little phone, just a bit laggy at times, but for £99.99 I'm not complaining. Hope to see Devs get stuck in and produce a custom recovery.
  3. Hi, Does anyone have a working apk of the Desires messaging app? Ive tried pulling it from the rom and installing from sd cardbut it fails to install. Or can anyone tell me how to install it. Im using MicroMods3.7 ROM and dont like the stock messaging app. Any help with this would be great, Thanks in advance. Doug
  4. Hi, Did you cook a custom ROM in the kitchen? If so did you remove any of the voice features (Dialer, Search & Recorder) if so I THINK one of these is part of the feature your missing, although Im not 100% sure as its not a feature I use. Hope this helps, Doug
  5. Hi, Have just been reading through this forum and see you've not had a direct answer, yes there is solutions within other forums and as your probably finding, it can be hard to find what your looking for. So a little helper for you if you've not already found the solution. You say your removing everything you dont need/want. Are you removing Friend Stream? if so this is the problem with the sync, if you include the Friend Stream in your next bake, this should solve your first problem. I cant help with the Bluetooth. Hope this helps, Doug
  6. Nexus One or Desire Z

Hi, I would go for the Nexus One, as already stated the Z has a slower processor and Ive seen one in the shops and Im not convinced that the hinge on the keyboard is very sturdy. The Nexus One on the other hand is the Grandad of the Desire family and its specs still hold strong. Like you I picked my Nexus One up for a good price and in great condition and by doing this Im not tied into a new contract. I got the HTC Desire when it was released and was very impressed with it but sadly gave it up for an iPhone 4, a few months back. Oh the fool I was, I have since seen the light and returned to Android with the Nexus One, in my honest opinion the superior phone. I hope this helps you decide on which to go for. I would also look around a bit more, I got my Nexus One for £270. Happy shopping.

  8. MCR r8 Archive

@ ckjong Hi there, I take it this is a custon R8 ROM you have flashed, if so did you cook in the Friend Stream app? I had this problem and cooking in Friend Stream fixed all the Sync probs. Has been covered within this forum by others and myself. Hope this helps, Doug
  9. 3g not working

Hi, There is a chance that those neat little notification icons wiped your APN list. In the APN setting on your phone it should at least list your Internet and MMS settings. I think the easiest thing you could do is call your network provider and ask for the setting for WAP/Internet and MMS to be sent to your phone, this way you get the exact right settings required. Then get a nice little app called APN BackUp & Restore. Hope this helps, Doug
  10. 3g not working

Hi, You may need to check your APN are present & correct after the root, they should be. Look in, Settings/ Wireless & Networks/ Mobile Networks/ Access Point Names and within there you should have Internet/WAP and MMS settings for your network provider. If there is settings there, it would be best to check these are correct by comparing with settings online. If not you can try pressing menu followed by Rest to Default, or look the setting up on line or finally calling up your Service Provider and ask them to send a settings message containing Internet/WAP and MMS settings. Hope this helps. Doug
  11. Insurance claim.. Restore to factory?

Hi I followed the guide at this link, it details everything you need and has video hows as well, which are good to watch as a visual to the written guides. I was on an OTA 2.2, bootloader upgraded to 0.92 and have managed to downgrade to 0.80 and then root and update to 2.2 as per the guide I flash using the unrevoked method decribed. Also my HTC Desire has an AMOLED screen. I have flashed a few MoDaCo custom R8 ROMs and not had any problems. http://www.android-tutorials.org/dev/?page_id=78 Also a very good question and asnwer section at this link on XDA. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=749551 I am far from an expert in this, I read and learn alot from the forums. All CREDIT to the Originators. Hope this helps. Doug
