  1. Cooking with FroYo

Cheers for the quick reply. My thoughts are leaning towards faulty phone anyway. As soon as I posted I thought if there were lots of people with overheating Desires, there would be far more posts about them here. Trip to Carphone Warehouse in the morning then :)
  2. Cooking with FroYo

Ever since my Desire received the 2.2 OTA upgrade it has been getting really hot - sometimes almost too hot to hold. Google Navigation won't run for more than about 10 minutes & WiFi less than a minute before the phone restarts. Sometimes when this happens it'll just keep restarting over & over until I have to remove the battery & leave the phone to cool. I've seen a few posts about Desires getting warm, but none mentioning phones you could fry an egg on! Are lots of people having this kind of trouble, or do I have a faulty phone? It's not locked to any network & was one of the very first Desires in the UK, so may well be a little fluttery. I'd love to hear your thoughts. Cheers, Martin
  3. Screen no longer touch sensitive

Thanks very much, I'm going in! Smoke me a kipper; I'll be back for breakfast!
  4. UK HTC Repairs

Try contacting Mark Pollak at Turn On Your Mobile in London. They repair HTC phones and also iPhones. Call them on 02085437417 for a quote. I've never used them myself, but I saw the ad and made a note in case I need help.
  5. Hi all, I recently dropped my TyTNII, only from a couple of feet and onto carpet. Since then, the screen will not respond to touch stimulus. I'm guessing I've dislodged the ribbon cable. I'm not afraid to open the phone up and see if I can fix it, after all, it's out of warranty now. My only problem is I can't see a way to get in there. I removed a couple of screws from the back of the screen, but they didn't seem to release anything at all. Can anyone tell me how to get access to the ribbon cable so I can try and get it working again? Many thanks, Martin
  6. Serene Phone touch interface coming for PPC

Sweet! I can't wait to see what the finished article looks and works like on the Hermes. I have Spb Mobile Shell but find it a little clunky, and HTC Home just leaves me cold. This looks like a Today plugin that's functional, pretty AND easy to use. Nice one!
  7. The newest version of TomTom Navigator 6 (January 2007), available in the tomtom.com download area. It is supposedly just for PDAs with built-in GPS receivers, but sorted out stability problems with my install. Before installing the update, my TTN6 would crash every time I tried to browse the maps or change preferences without my Bluetooth GPS connected.

  9. Have you downloaded the latest TomTom Navigator 6 update from the TomTom website? I had problems with my 3100 until I did this. Since then TT6 has worked quickly and reliably. Martin
  10. 'SPV' branding safe after all?

As HTC are increasing the number of devices they launch we have decided that not all of them will be Signature Series and therefore not always SPV. For this reason we are launching the HTC Touch under the HTC brand. The Orange mark will still appear on the HTC Touch, as it does on lots of other devices. Longer term, we are planning to only use the Orange mark on Signature devices. Our aim is for the Orange mark to stand for an assured quality level plus value added features and for the Signature Series - which comprises devices from many manufacturers - to be a higher level of quality still. Does Orange mean to imply that the quality of the HTC Touch does not come up to the quality standard required to be considered a Signature Series device? Having said that, since SPV originally meant Sounds, Pictures & Video, I can see why the name could possibly become obsolete in the future, as the majority of modern mobile phones are just as capable of handling sounds, pictures & video as the SPV range. Maybe we, the users, should be using the forum here to help Orange choose a new, more relevant name for the phones currently called SPV, or even just a more relevant meaning for the acronym SPV. Special Phone Variant? Simple, Practical, Versatile? There must be hundreds of ideas out there that are better than Sounds, Pictures, Video. Martin
  11. TomTom 6 hanging

TomTom6 was also hanging on my Orange M3100 until I downloaded the latest update from TomTom. Everything has been hunky dory since then. Martin
  12. Intro: What do you drive?

I can beat a Maxi. My first car was a 1967 Morris 1100 in Old English white. It was just 6 months younger than me, and would just about hit 60mph down a steep hill (if the wind was in the right direction). I kept it for a couple of years then changed to an ORIGINAL Mini Cooper. How about other people's first cars? There must be a wide variety among this international community. Anyone had a Trabant?
  13. Thinking of upgrading to WM6

Yes, you're right, the 'E' does mean EDGE. This came to M3100s in the last Orange update, and is obviously also included in WM6. When you see it in the Start bar, you get a faster Internet connection, but no video calling. Martin
  14. New Black v3.5 WM6 ROM Released

A couple of questions: What handset are you upgrading (M3100, VarioII, TyTn, 8525, Trion, etc.)? What ROM version are you starting with? If your SPL is version 2.10 then you already have Hard-SPL. If you do need to install Hard-SPL, make sure the checkbox that says "Is it Hard-SPL?" is NOT checked, as your phone isn't Hard-SPL yet. I followed these instructions myself with my M3100 and had to flash it twice, but had no other problems. Since all the Hermes variants have different ROMs, someone here may be able to tell you of workarounds for problems on your particular model. Martin
  15. What about Orange Unlimited Data

I decided to go for the Orange £5 per month unlimited (capped to 4 gigabytes) off-peak deal. The cap is Waaaaay higher than the £8 deal and if you use it outside the off-peak times (7pm - 7am and weekends) you don't pay any more than £1.50 a day, regardless of usage. this suits me just fine as most of my Internet time is in the evening at work.
