  1. No, I read it and it made me think about doing it in other ways! Thanks for your help.
  2. I had a bit of ponder and a search and discovered I could get CWM from here and Amphoras TPT's from here without using Google Play. This meant I could, although I was already Gen 2, try the TPT 'Gen 1 to Gen 2 CyanogenMod 7.1 N257' which would get me a 160Mb system partition and an older ROM. This worked. Then I reflashed the Pacman ROM and Gapps and it all seem (so far!) to be fine. I have a 160MB partition and Google Play. This time when I rebooted the phone did all the ususal set up things I would expect. This looks like a great ROM! :D
  3. No? I think having looked around that my system is not 160MB partition so that will probably be the problem. No idea how to sort that out at all though.
  4. No, I did Gapps...... I'd try it again but CWM has gone too! I'm a bit lost now. :(
  5. Thanks for this ROM, looks really good. I have just had to dig out the old Orange SF as the replacement Sony Xperia U the wife gave me for Christmas has given up the ghost, so I thought I would try this out as I had restored the phone to original settings when I stopped using it in December. Loving the look of it. But, being a bit thick and a bit of a newbie to all this ROM stuff, where is Google Play gone? I would like to install some of my favourtie things and I can't find it at all......???
  6. This thread reminded me that I needed to reconnect my rebuilt phone to the car. I have a JVC KD-R811 that works fine. I seem to have a bit of a random button pressing to get the voice out of the car speakers rather than the phone (I remember doing that last time I set up the connection too) but, presuming that it works like last time, it reconnects properly from then on. I've never bothered to stream music to it, I guess it would work as well.
  7. I bought a microSD card (for another device) and since it came with a card reader I thought I'd see if it were quicker to backup the contents of the phone's card over using that directly and while doing that had a fiddle with the new card in the phone. (I thought I'd see if it recognised it!) But I couldn't do anything useful as it had lost all the stuff I keep on the card. (I kinda expected that) Having copied (not moved!) the phone card (it was no quicker!) I put it back in and have the same screen, default wallpaper, most of the apps missing! Doh!! What have I done? Is there a way to get the 'old' phone back? Or do I have to reinstall everything..... This is a bit of a pain, had I done anything silly I'd have expected a bit of a hassle, but this is peculiar. The contents of the card are still identical to what is on the backup. I have not deleted anything, just copied it. All I did was boot the phone with a blank card in (it did write some folders to it but I deleted them when I put the card back in the camera) the original was taken out, copied and replaced. What can I do? Can anyone help?

    I'm puzzled.....

The backup was made around the end of July. I have no idea if 'ext-sd' existed then or not (but I think it must have). Anyway that is history now, I want to find a secure way to back this device up, with all its settings and apps so that some (or all) of it can easily be reinstalled in the future! My wife has no problems with her iPhone/iPod touch apps. Why is it so complicated for Android?

    I'm puzzled.....

Clearly asking for help from people who think they know it all is pointless.

Try it. I had an old Clockwork backup. That wouldn't restore. Spare time yesterday was spent reinstalling Monfro and reinstalling all the apps from the Market which is painfully slow. Is there a version of what iTunes does for the iPhone for Android - backup the lot remotely (not on the internal card) and reinstall when necessary?

    I'm puzzled.....

Thanks anyway, I presume you think you are being helpful but if you are where I am and don't know what 'did you use sd-ext partition?' means, it really is cryptic. Telling me (us) how it would 'explain' the problem might be useful, telling us how to resolve it would be even more useful! ;)

    I'm puzzled.....

There may well be but I don't think there is going to be much help here though.

    I'm puzzled.....

Ah! The answer to that is probably 'yes' then. I used the move to SD option under settings and I can see the apps on the card, if I look at Settings, Applications, Manage Applications,'All' they are listed there albeit greyed out. Thanks for the link, I guess the might explain what has happened! No way to get it all back? Damn, reinstalling all that is going to be a pain in the butt. What I'd like is a to understand where this stuff has 'gone' and why can't it be recovered? Also, if I am to do a complete reinstall, what it the most sensible method of formatting/setting-up the phone so that a problem like this does not happen again. And a backup is actually a backup!

    I'm puzzled.....

Does anyone know what this cryptic comment was supposed to tell me?

    I'm puzzled.....

That sounds rather similar doesn't it? What's really annoying is the 'backups' I have been making, by copying the contents of the SD card dutifully from time to time, would clearly be useless if I needed to reinstate anything! Not that impressed as it goes. Thanks for sharing though, at least I'm not on my own, but reinstalling all that lot is not something I'm looking forward to.....

    I'm puzzled.....

Oh well, I guess I'm on my own then. :( What a pain. I thought this would be something simple that I had missed. Clearly not. Shame.

    I'm puzzled.....

I don't know what that means, so I guess not. The original card is back in the phone, I've not changed anything about it. Took it out to backup, played with the new card in the phone and reinserted the original. It looks like I've not got a card recognised in the phone, but it can still be read on the card when plugged into the computer.....? Does that make sense?
  18. Thought I had. Wiped again and did another install and it is now fine. Nice ROM isn't it? Very quick.
  19. Help please! I've downloaded this ROM and installed it but am repeatedly getting a message 'The process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again' I was running Blue Ginger that had been fine although I seemed to be losing phone signal recently. Obviously I have been Gen2 for some time and don't know what to do now! Consider me a newbie at all this, have no idea were to go as all my updates had gone quite well before this! The phone seems unusable, there are few app icons most are generic Android 'green boxes' rather than the correct ones and I can't get rid of this message as it just comes back when I choose 'Force close'. Can't get to the Market to download and install Titanium Backup to restore my apps as the message keeps popping up and killing the keyboard. (Worse still I can't seem to search this forum on my Mac for anything to do with 'android.process.acore'. Really not loving the layout, sorry!) Any idea where I can look or what I can do? Edit - Just tried to download Titanium Backup and install on the USB and my Mac says, after mounting to USB, 'Mac cannot repair the disk 'Untitled'. Does anyone think something happened to my SD card causing this problem? Didn't happen before, I'm guessing App2SD (that I have not been using for sometime) or something similar is missing. Not bothered, happy to reinstall everything if I need to but what can I do to get rid of the problem?
  20. That seems to have done the trick. All up and running as expected. Thank you!
  21. Phone is a Orange San Francisco, I'm in the UK. Yes, Mr Pigfish says Gen1 If I format my card I'll loose all my stuff on it won't I? I have a backup on the computer, can I just copy it all back over after with no problems?
  22. I have the same problem. Whether I use power+volume up with or without the menu button mine sits with the green android and nothing happens. Pop the battery out and it reboots but has not updated. (I tried both downloads) Sadly I have the original SD card. Anyone have any ideas as to what problem I have?
  23. I was happy with RC4 for a week or so and expected the 'Stable' release to be an improvement but it was anything but. I had the reboot from unplugging the USB, keyboard oddities, blank screens and it was pretty rubbish. Reverted to RC4 last night and it is now fin again. (But I wish I could get ClockworMod backups to actually work properly, despite doing a complete backup and a wipe and restore I still lost lots, but not all, of my apps and settings.... Still better than previously when the restore has simply not worked for me!)

    Pull down menu?

Answered my own question. :D It is called 'power widget' (Settings, CyanogenMod setting, Interface, Notification power widget) but I needed to reboot to enable the change. It's a very handy utility.
  25. Sorry that I don't know the correct terminology.... I successfully updated to 2.3 with CyanogenMod 7 yesterday and was pleased to see that there was a listing of wireless, bluetooth, GPS and something else when I pulled down the top menu. But I have been fiddling with different settings and it is not there now and I can't find how to get it back. Does anyone know how (and what is it properly called?) TIA
