If your budget can stretch to the Nexus 4, get that. It's a stunning phone for the price. If not, the ZTE phones you mentioned are a bit dated now. You're probably better looking at the G300 or something similar, which is about the same price and newer.

I'd recommend to anybody looking to buy a new 'cheap' phone, to save up that bit extra for a Nexus 4. Obviously this isn't possible for everybody, but if you can manage it it's definitely worth it. For that bit of extra cash you're getting essentially a top of the range smartphone, with a huge developer community, that'll easily last you a good year.

I recently got one and am really happy with the build quality and speed of the device. Compared to the Skate, the difference is obviously night and day.

It was a driver problem, although I've got it working now. I had to use the program from this guide, which worked perfectly. I highly recommend it as an alternative method for anybody having problems.

I had the same issues trying to unlock my ZTE Skate, although thankfully this wasn't half as bad. Vista just doesn't seem to play nice when it comes to this kind of stuff.

    Thanks for your response, though.

This doesn't work for me. When I run './fastboot-windows oem unlock' a black box flashes up and then closes on my PC too fast to see what it says, and running 'superboot-windows.bat' it just constantly says "waiting for device".

    Help please?

  7. TouchyAndalou added a post in a topic Nexus 4 8Gb and 16Gb are back in stock on Google Play!

Received mine this morning, about 10 minutes before I had to leave for work!

Unfortunately, I didn't realise that my giffgaff sim is one of the older, non-micro ones, so I've got to wait for a new one to arrive before I can start using it proper. That means I'll be stuck with the old banger (ZTE Skate) for a couple days yet. Nightmare.

    Ugh, first world problems.

I emailed Google tonight asking for an update on the status of my order, and lo and behold, a couple hours later I get my shipping confirmation! Coincidence? Either way, I'm gonna be at work when they come :(

Ordered last Wednesday and yet to receive a shipping notification. I have the same estimate of 13th February as others seem to be getting, but I'm hoping it'll get here way before then!

I've flashed a 2MB cache TPT and I get the same error, specifically when trying to install Angry Birds Star Wars. Any help with this would be appreciated.

Yeah, either the bar with the numbers to the left, or even just the numbers on their own look good I think. It was the numbers on their own I was actually thinking of, although I guess that would work best with a centre clock mod. I'll post a pic of what I'm thinking of tomorrow when I'm on my computer anyway, just to give you another idea.

The mix of ICS and JB sounds good and should give your new ROM a certain uniqueness.

For the launcher, have you considered using Holo? I know it's a personal thing and whatever one you include it's easy for people to change it, but I thought I'd mention it because it seems like it'd go well with the ROM. I started using it about a month back because I got sick of Go launcher and I've found it to be really smooth. Its simpler than Go, much lighter on resources, doesn't have all the ads and add-ons, and of course its look is based on stock ICS.

The theme is looking really good, H3ROS. Personally I much prefer the stock ICS 'numerical' battery icon, and I think the Jelly Bean lockscreen is better, but obviously this is personal taste. Can't wait to try the new ROM out!

  15. TouchyAndalou added a post in a topic Nexus 4 in hand :D any questions?

Hello, I'm thinking of getting this phone and would like to ask anybody who has it a couple of questions.

Firstly, what is the sound like through the speakers? I'm assuming it has Dolby, which is generally pretty good, so does it sound ok when listening to music/movies without headphones? I know it's not going to be amazing, but how is it compared to other similar phones? Also, is there much distortion when playing back at the highest volume? And is the in-call volume loud and clear?

Secondly, what is the performance of the camera/video camera like compared to other smartphones?

Finally, can the flash be used as a flashlight? And can it be turned on during video capture in low light conditions?

Thanks in advance to anybody who takes the time to answer.
