    How can I flash a recovery.img if I've root access but flash tool isn't working???

    should a reverse dump work?

    I mean, should "dd of=/dev/block/mmcblk0 if=/sdcard/recovery.img bs=4096 count=1536 seek=3976" work? is it safe?

    Thanks in advance

    I'm trying to understand how to root it without windows....

    look at this... this is the updater-script of the G2S-MTK6577-*-Root.zip...
    http://pastebin.com/J6NuEY7h

    omitting the ui_prints and the stage where it removes the jiayu apps you get

    assert(package_extract_file("boot.img", "/tmp/boot.img"),
    write_raw_image("/tmp/boot.img", "bootimg"),
    delete("/tmp/boot.img"));
    mount("ext4", "EMMC", "/dev/block/mmcblk0p3", "/system");
    set_perm_recursive(0, 2000, 0755, 0755, "/system/xbin");
    package_extract_dir("system", "/system");
    set_perm(0, 0, 0644, "/system/app/Superuser.apk");
    set_perm(0, 0, 06755, "/system/xbin/su");
    set_perm(0, 0, 04755, "/system/bin/bash");
    set_perm(0, 2000, 04755, "/system/bin/busybox");
    unmount("/system");

    that's all what seems to need to root the phone, it's easy and I think it could be done by the "update system" app...
    the only thing I can't understand is why is it flashing the kernel... won't it work with the custom kernel built-in?

    edit: tried to apply the root.zip with the update system app but got a red warning...

    I've read about some problems with the gps and a working fix... but my phone's gps (kernel and build of 17 oct 2012) seems to work very well... he founds me within 20meters, can't understand where is the problem, maybe the fix has been integrated in my build, I hope so... :)

    I've ordered from aliexpress... the 1Gb costs 30$ more it's 22% more :)
    edit: in fastcardtech I see that the 512mb is 99£ and the 1gb 112£... and the value pack isn't included... I've paid 140$ (87£) for mine and with the security of aliexpress... ;)

    My G2L (popular version / mtk6577 with 512mb ram) came today and it has been delivered to switzerland in 8 days with sweden post... super!!

    the phone is great, the only bad thing I've noticed is that wifi have lots of "timeouts" (there are several times when I've to wait 'till it works again)...

    I've just ordered a Jiayu G2 mtk6577 512mb (I think it is the one called popular version) from aliexpress and I'm waiting for delivery from sweden post,

    I'll share the things I found this days searching in chinese and russian forums...

    Lewa OS official supports the G2 in all his versions, also a recovery is available, did someone tried it?
    last thing I discovered is that apkhot just made a MIUI version for mt6577 phones and they're publishing a beta this 30 november for this phones:
    - jiayu G3
    - jiayu G2 standard (I think it's the 1gb ram version)
    - Amoi N820
    - ZTE V970
    - UMI X1
