If you own a Touch Diamond are are always on the lookout for G-Sensor enabled applications you would know Koushik Dutta, he has provided some excellent API for the other hackers to work on. Now his latest contribution the Stylus Sensor

He also promises to release an tool that allows users to launch any application, shortcut, sound file, etc, when the stylus is removed from the device.

If you are feeling brave you can play around with this Registry Key :

CODE
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Keybd\StylusOutStatus

( make sure you back the Registry First )

So what kind of feature do you this this can be used for ?

We've posted about smape.com before (last time when they scooped a Touch Dual review!), and they seem to have done it again by posting a very extensive review of the hotly anticipated Sony Ericsson XPeria X1!

Featuring a very informative review and a whole host of images, the review is a must-read if you're one of the many awaiting the arrival of Sony Ericsson's first foray into the Windows Mobile market.

Taking into account the fact that Smape are obviously reviewing a device that will be a number of software-builds shy of release quality, they seem to come away might impressed! Sadly the reservations raised previously about the keyboard remain...

QUOTE
What we didn’t really like about X1 was the main keyboard. The buttons feel loose and you can’t always feel if a button was pressed or not. We hope this will get fixed by the release day. The backlight is perfect though: bright enough to eliminate any possible inconvenience when you work in the dark. A brightly colored LED light works as the best reminder so you won’t ever miss a message. Talking in advance, we’d mention that Touch Pro still has a much better keyboard, which is the biggest advantage over the Swedish-Japanese competitor.

but...well... i'll let you read through for yourself to get the rest of their impressions! :et us know what you think!

The curved slider still looks slick, a 3.5mm is great and that 800x480 screen DOES look glorious... biggrin.gif

As you all might already know the HTC Touch Pro has TV-out functionality, unfortunately the TV-Out cable is not provided by HTC. Fortunately for us sub69 from xda-developers.com has put up a post describing in pictures how well this function really works.

When you plug it in the TV-Out you get the option to choose between NTSC and PAL. The device also automatically rotates to landscape mode. The Menu screen gives you quick access to applications like Powerpoint Mobile , the Youtube player and Internet using the Opera Mobile.

He also played a movie using Coreplayer and reported there was a bit of flicker when using the “Qtv Display” option, but the “DirectDraw” option was flicker free, and worked flawlessly! No slowdown or judder at all with a 700Mb file, and the picture quality on the TV was surprisingly good. ( so the Video Driver issue that plagued the TyTN2 might not bother the Touch Pro ).

Impressive...?

Serial diamond API-releaser Koushik Dutta is at it again, this time with the release of a .NET Compact Framework wrapper for OpenGL ES!

Available now from his blog, the API allows you to easily integrate 3D acceleration in your Compact Framework application. To demonstrate the flexibility of this API, Koushik has also released 'Sensory Overload' for the Touch Diamond, which also shows the Nav and G-Sensor APIs in use. It's also good fun wink.gif

With this release and those before it, .net CF developers are pretty set to create powerful software optimised for the Diamond. The two things that bug me are that these advances had to come from a third party (I would love to see this kind of thing from HTC, together with some UI components) and secondly that the G Sensor is proprietary to the Diamond... it doesn't work on the Samsung i900 Omnia for example.

That said, hats off once again to the developer! biggrin.gif

The Celio Redfly, which I played with earlier this year, has dropped in price in the US and the UK!

The price has dropped $100 / £50, from $499 to $399 from Celio's store and £299.99 to £249.99 at eXpansys (don't forget our £10 discount vouchers too!)

The pricing of the REDFLY has been the subject of much debate... are you interested in this device? Would the price drop pique your interest?

Alongside the pricedrop, Celio has announced support for a total of 19 different WinMo devices, listed here on the Celio site.

I just spotted this unusual Samsung i900 Omnia unboxing linked on MobileCrunch... I feel a bit cheated, as my unboxing process with the i900 definitely wasn't like this!

Nicely done I think... well worth a watch! (yes, even for you unboxing doubters!) biggrin.gif

Although this is technically non WinMo news, regulars will know that I have something of a soft spot for the new generation of 'netbook' mini laptops! Having been through a couple of Eee PCs, an Advent 4211 and now totally loving my MSI Wind, when I spotted this deal on hotukdeals I just had to share!

Basically, you can get the hot new Acer Aspire One in base 8GB SSD / 512MB RAM spec for a paltry £189.05 INC delivery!

To do so, simply visit this page, select home delivery and enter the code 'YAWAUG08' for the 5% discount.

Since I have the Wind i'm REALLY trying to resist one of these (altho it'd be kinda fun loading OSX on this baby?), but I know Mono is after one of these and is probably hovering over the 'checkout' button right now wink.gif

What is the one thing that iphone users brag about a lot? Multi-Touch, which enables them to perform features like pinch zoom in and out. Well, if this video is anything to go by, we are going to get this feature too, well @ least the HTC Diamond / Touch Pro users will...

Using an internal HTC application called Nav Debug Tool, the video shows that the whole front of the device can track finger movements, and even ** drum roll ** two fingers can be tracked simultaneously. So far there is no know feature on the Touch Diamond/ Pro that exploits this, but once the good folks @ xda-developers get their hands on the API I imagine we won't have to wait too long!

So what feature do you want with Multi-Touch? I am sure Paul should be getting some crazy ideas on how to exploit this feature... biggrin.gif

Mixtikl is the evolution of a niche, yet excellent, music mixing application called miniMIXA. miniMIXA was previously available for PocketPC and Smartphone for many years and even won a Bafta award! However, when owners Tao Group went bust just over a year ago, development of the third version of miniMIXA stopped. Luckily though, the real brains behind the software (Tim & Peter Cole - also the brains behind KOAN), managed to buy back the rights to the software they previously created and owned (before Tao took over) and went back into business.

Fast forward to the now and Intermorphic are gearing up to release Mixtikl to mobile music makers everywhere. Of course, Mixtikl will be coming to WM at launch but they also have plans for iPhone support and S60 support further down the line. The iPhone support may be a long time coming though as Apple impose certain restrictions on developers that Intermorphic were not willing to adhere to. That being said, Apple's loss is WinMo's gain as development is pressing on with a view to release October time.

Having reviewed the original miniMIXA app way back in 2004 (and loved it!), I can't wait to see what Mixtikl will have to offer! miniMIXA really was a truly unique piece of software. Being able to produce music that would change as you were producing it (using a generative music engine) was an amazing experience so I have high hopes for Mixtikl. Kudos to Tim & Pete for keeping their head in the game and not letting the demise of Tao Group take their awesome software out of the public domain.
