Every time you visit make sure you check the bargain forum, you never know when there is a must have out there!

For those of you who have defected over to the dark side and bought an apple iPhone, you can now choose your os of choice courtesy of some kid in Norway!

Apparently the device (if of course this is true!) dual boots into a boot camp like selection, then you choose your interface. In its beta form at the moment, it is supposedly set for a release in January.

I wont hold my breath on this but it would be quite funny to see a fully functioning win mobile interface on an iphone!

Oh and before I forget, check out the video interviewing the "developer". Being Norweigean, he gives it on good authority that the girls there are all programming! Having been to Norway twice, and having seen the talent, if this is true it must be the biggest collection of clever and beautiful girls in the world!

My my, HTC do have their fingers in a lot of pies wink.gif

Below are the first images of a device that appears to be called the 'T8290' and is packing WiMAX, destined for the Russian Yota WiMAX network.

We can see the device features:

- WinMo 6.1 Professional
- 3.8" WVGA (800x480) screen
- Inbuilt phone, WiMAX, Bluetooth and WiFi

Amazingly the design seems to be even more minimalist that the Touch HD! smile.gif No deets on whether this packs the same 5 Megapixel camera of course, but there is a camera of some description on there. We'll be digging around for more info and will update this post as and when - watch this space! smile.gif

Given HTC's recent announcement that the Touch HD will not be available stateside, could this give a hint as to why? Will we see the T8290 coming to Sprint's 'Xohm' network?

More pics in the full topic for news page readers...

Finally, it's here... the first Windows Mobile device from Sony Ericsson, the Xperia X1!

As with all the hot latest devices, this is your opportunity to hit me up with any questions you have on the device!

As a recap, the X1 includes the following specs:

- Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional
- Unique 'Panels' UI
- 3" WVGA (800x480) screen
- Quad Band GSM
- Tri Band HSDPA/HSUPA
- 512MB ROM / 256MB RAM
- WiFi
- GPS
- Optical joystick AND dpad
- Arc slider keyboard
- 3.2MP Camera
- 110 x 53 x 16.7 mm
- 145g

The device is currently priced at an eye-watering £584.99 at eXpansys (however, as always, varies in price a lot online at this pre-launch stage... e.g. Handtec is listing at £499.99), but is expected on a number of UK networks too.

I'll be back with my thoughts as I start using the device... this is the BLACK (as opposed to silver) model, obviously... smile.gif

Finally, we have a new X1 dedicated discussion area at http://X1.MoDaCo.com! smile.gif

Packing one of the innovating Pantech Duo dual slider Smartphones on AT&T? If so, then you'll be pleased to know that a Windows Mobile 6.1 update has been released!

Weighing in at 58MB and available for download at the Pantech site, the update takes you to...

QUOTE

Radio Version C819.33.
OS Bld. Version 6.11.M044.33

This just in from SPB...

QUOTE
Spb Software, the world's leading maker of Windows Mobile applications announces the release of Spb Online Games as a separate suite. Originally, part of Spb Online - a set of online services under one roof, which attracted over 15,000 users in under two weeks (at the rate of more than 1000 users per day) - Spb Online Games is a collection of four instant online games, supplemented with an online chat service.

Spb Online Games makes it possible to play two versions of Checkers, Hexagon, or Reversi with real people from virtually anywhere in the world, in real-time. Any online game can be launched within 30 seconds and if interrupted - continued from the spot it was left off. The service already has thousands of registered players on the network, with each potential opponent equipped with a configurable user profile (might include picture, name, type of handset, and network). The online gaming experience can be further personalized through real-time chatting with active online players.

I've personally thought that online gaming on WinMo is a very under exploited market, and it's good to see SPB starting to move in this direction! SPBOG looks pretty cool (even if the initial selection of games looks a little limited), so I hope to see the range of games expanding in the future.

What would you like to see included? I'd love to see Chess in there for sure... The thought of playing chess OTA with an opponent definitely appeals, although I suspect this may already exist for Pocket PC? Anyone?

SPB Online Games is available for both Pocket PC and Smartphone for $14.95, with a 15 day trial available and a 30 day no-questions-asked money back guarantee!

Gizmodo.com is claiming that the alpha version of Firefox will be released to the public in a few weeks time.

Once Firefox gets released it will be cut throat rivalry between 3 major players Opera, Skyfire and Firefox. Lets not consider IE, unless they bring out some radical changes in the new version which only they are excited about rolleyes.gif .

Now i'm not sure if this is new or not (if not, i've only just found out!), but Colorware, the custom colour people, now offer custom painting of the Samsung Blackjack II!

As you can see in the image below, you can choose from a number of different solid or metallic colours for your device front, side, back / top or back / bottom. You'll need to send in your device (US only) and it isn't cheap, but it DOES look pretty damn cool! biggrin.gif

Out of interest, if anyone has previously owned a colorware device and can comment on the quality of the finish, let us know!

If you want to spec up your own custom paint scheme, visit the colorware site, and feel free to share your creation...

If you are a Mac and a WinMo user, then there are two solutions out there for all your syncing needs - 'Missing Sync' or 'Syncmate' (available in either free or paid versions).

I've personally bought both, but I must confess that it's the newcomer Syncmate that is currently installed on my machine rather than the established Missing Sync.

For today only, the MUPromo arm of top Mac site MacUpdate is offering Syncmate Expert - the paid version of Syncmate - at a 50% discounted price of $19.95... quite a bargain! The expert version adds the following features...
  • Bookmark synchronization
  • Folders synchronization
  • iPhoto synchronization
  • iTunes synchronization
  • Notes synchronization
  • Time synchronization
  • Mail plugin
  • SMS manager plugin
  • Applications list plugin
  • To Do's plugin
...some additions well worth having.

You can find out more about Syncmate (and also grab the free version) over at the Eltima site, or get in quick for your 50% discount over at MUPromo [aff].

Yesterday I spent some time in London at the T-Mobile Winter Showcase. This is basically where T-Mo pimp their wares for the coming season... and this time they had the chance to show off a couple of devices of interest to readers here, namely the MDA Vario IV and the Android based G1.

I've included a video of the G1 in action (excuse the fact i'm a complete android n00b), as well as some MDA Vario IV pics below.

If you have any questions on either, hit me up in this topic! Really liking the MDA IV, bit slicker in appearance than the Touch Pro... really not overly enamoured with the uber-plasticky (especially in Black!) G1.

Discuss! biggrin.gif

P

PS Apologies for the lighting in the video and pictures, the venue lighting was AWFUL! And very pink... tongue.gif

PPS News page readers - photos after the jump!

PPPS That's not a Pink G1... it's the white one in the dodgy lighting! biggrin.gif

Microsoft Phone Data Manager Beta is out and it should run on any Windows Mobile phone (or other SyncML/OBEX standard compliant handset) and offers to backup select data. Its not a complete Backup solution, but does offer some benefits. Contacts are saved on to Windows Live, while media files are stored in a folder on your Windows XP or Vista PC. In order for you to synchronize contacts, you will need to have a Windows Live ID (any Hotmail ID is a valid Windows Live ID). If you do not have one, you will be prompted to create one while you use the application.

Microsoft Phone Data Manager Beta is an application that is designed to take away the worry of losing data on your phone - specifically contacts, music, pictures and videos. It does that by synchronizing your phone contacts with Microsoft's Windows Live Contacts store in the cloud, or by helping you download files from the phone to your local computer.

Contacts: Microsoft Phone Data Manager Beta synchronizes the contacts present in your phone with your contact store on Windows Live Contacts, which is the same store that your Hotmail contacts uses. This way, your phone contacts are always present on the internet, accessible via the contacts link on Hotmail. If you lose, or simply change your phone, all you need to do is to synchronize the contacts using Microsoft Phone Data Manager Beta, and all the contacts that you stored in your Windows Live Contacts store will be downloaded to your phone. You can synchronize your contacts as many times as you like so that the changes you make (edits, additions or deletions) on your phone, or on the computer on Windows Live Contacts are always reflected on both your phone and the Windows Live Contacts store.

Music, Pictures and Video: In its current form, Microsoft Phone Data Manager Beta will download the music, pictures and videos present in your phone to a local folder on the computer you are using this application on

Communication with your phone: Microsoft Phone Data Manager Beta can communicate with your phone via a wireless standard known as Bluetooth, or via a USB cable.

If I told you a few years ago that you would be running a version of Photoshop on your Windows Mobile device, you would have called me a lunatic. But, with the launch today of Photoshop for a subset of Windows Mobile devices, that is exactly what's happened (and maybe I am a little bit of a lunatic) wink.gif

OK, so the name is a little misleading... you're not going to be loading your PSDs onto your phone and doing serious image editing... what Photoshop Mobile offers is...

QUOTE(Adobe)
"the easiest way to upload, view, and share your photos online from your phone:

- Upload and store photos online as soon as you take them (get 2GB of storage free)
- View your online photos and albums from your phone
- Share them wherever you are

All you need is a support Windows Mobile phone and a Photoshop.com membership. To download the beta, follow the steps in the blue box above or type m.photoshop.com on your phone's browser.

Still pretty cool, especially for free!

Supported devices at this time are the Blackjack, Blackjack II, Motorola Q9C, Motorola Q9H and the Treo 750 (without touchscreen features)... which leads me to think all you Smartphone users should be OK. Unfortunately the distinct lack of buttons on my Omnia means this isn't going to work for me wink.gif Hence, i'm relying on you lot to tell me how good it is (or not)! biggrin.gif

To sign up or see a video demo of Photoshop Mobile in action, head on over to Photoshop.com.
