Put a drop of WD40 on the end of your jack and push it in and out of the socket a few times this sorted my problem

Sorry to be a pain but I’m still not able to set my own sounds,
I’ve copied my sound files to Windows folder but when I go into Settings, Sounds and Notification the list is still the same and my sound files do not appear
Any thoughts

Hi everybody I've just upgraded from my trusty old SPV C500 to the Orange M500. Fantastic little device. Having had it a week or so I find I am unable to alter the notification tones for say new text message, new email etc. There are options there like alarm 1-4, at home, at mobile, at pager and so on, but I would like to add my own sounds to this list. Is there any way of doing this?

I read somewhere on this forum somebody suggesting adding your sounds to WINDOWS/RINGS and setting them as an alarm from here. When I copy my sounds to this folder the only option for setting is to set as a ringtone only. Can anybody help? (I am sure this will be the first of many questions)

QUOTE(PaulT @ Dec 30 2005, 15:29)
All three of the phones that I've had did the same. When you try and set the volume on the lowest setting, not only does it not sound any quieter but it gives you a lot of nasty feedback during calls. Like you I have to have it on the second to last setting, which seems to help with the feedback.

Every other phone that I have had, the bottom setting (no volume) is basically mute. Whereas on this phone you can still hear it very clearly. I am no expert in these things but there is something definitely wrong with the volume on the phone and it isn't limited to just a few phones it seems to be them all. The way that Orange and HTC seem to be blatantly denying any problems appears to suggest that it is a hardware problem and therefore not something that they are going to fix.

The only way that I am able to use the phone comfortably is to have the speaker above my ear, almost on my temple so as to lessen the damage to my ear drum!
*

Thanks for the quick reply PaulT. Maybe these threads should be forwarded to HTC to see if they have any idea of what's wrong.

Just to add to this sound problem thread, I bought my son the C550 for Christmas. We have found that when he has the earpiece volume set down to nothing, using the volume control on the side of the phone, the volume is still there, albeit low, but he gets very loud feed back in the earpiece, suggesting there may well be a speaker problem. The only way we have found round this is to have the earpiece volume set somewhere in the middle. Has anyone anymore thoughts on this problem?

Looking at the new program MYMONEY Version 1.0.0.1 on the main page, it say’s you have to have Microsoft .NET Compact Framework 1.1 to run it. Can somebody explain what I have to do, do you install NET Compact framework on your phone or computer or both if so can you talk me through it and another thing is there a link to it.

thanks

Well I’ve got to say I’m amazed at the lack of interest in this post.

fluffcat1 has gone to all the trouble of giving people a detail description of how to dismantle your phone without voiding the warranty.
This enables you to clean the screen and I get the impression from the replies about 2 or 3 people have give it a go so far.

The main reason I’m amazed is that on this forum under (ORANGE SPV C500 DUST ISSUE) there has been so far 292 replies 22,360 views on this issue, in other words lots and lots of dust.

I’ve added some photo’s hope they help

Nice clean screen mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

just a note to thank fluffcat1 for the original thread

Hi!

What smtp are you using in your settings?

If you use a GPRS connectin, the SMTP server you shoud be using is that of your network operator. possibly send.vodaphone.net

Good luck

QUOTE(Pete @ Jun 28 2005, 22:21)
That looks like it may be the problem.  If you're using Vodafone GPRS (I'm assuming there - apologies if I'm wrong) then you need to use the Vodafone SMTP mail server, rather than the ntl SMTP server to send email.

Sorry, but I don't have the settings you need, but if you can find them, or work them out, then you may have a solution.  I guess you'll be looking for something like smtp . vodafone . net , or similar.

At the moment, ntl is not happy to allow your messages, because you're not connecting through ntl, but through Vodafone.

Hope this helps.
Pete.

Yes I am using Vodafone GPRS but isn't this just to allow me connect to the internet. If ntlworld does not allow me to send messages using Vodafone, why does it allow me to receive messages using the same settings?

Not sure what you've tried, so lets start with the obvious...

1)  Post the error message you're getting so we can see if there are any clues there

2)  Post your SMTP service provider details, and the settings you currently have, so we can check them.  Don't post your password, and change your username a little, just for safety

3)  Have you checked with your SMTP provider whether you need to use SSL?  That had me stumped before because it's so well hidden
*

1) your message was not sent and has been moved to the drafts folder. the following recipients are invalid (what ever the e-mail address is)

2) smpt.ntlworld.com server type POP3 network (the internet) username @ntlworld.com

3) the incoming server (which works) has an check box for SSL connection

outgoing server has a check box outgoing server requires authentication

I've had my SPV C500 since Xmas. Got to grips with most things, but this damn email is doing my head in.

I've unlocked the phone and am using a Vodafone sim card at the moment with Vodafone PAYT settings. My email is set up for my ntlworld email account. I can send and receive text, MMS messages, use GPRS and WAP and even connect to the internet BUT I cannot send emails.

I can receive them via my POP3 settings but when I send an email, I get a System Administrator message, Subject: Invalid message recipients, and then it moves the unsent message to the Drafts folder.

It does this with ALL emails I send so I know that it is not down to typo errors.

Please please please help me find my way. If you have any ideas please explain them in plain English. I know what I am doing but I need to get my head round this problem.

Thanks in anticipation.
