I used the rom here: xda-dev, helmi_c, 1.57.00.02_AKU.0.7.0. Dynamic rom Used HardSPL and then the rom. Nothing else out of the ordinary. I had the SIM and memory card in during the flash. Should be noted that my Windows Live didn't work after the flash - you need to install the activator cab, also in that post. Also for the HTCHomePlug is missing icons for power and screen rotate. But the buttons still work. |

Interesting! I flashed my Orange TyTN2 with a cooked rom off xda-dev and it's working fine and dandy. No issues at all (aside from a couple of missing icons - but that's nothing) I wonder what the commonalities are here. |

you do know their is an official HTC TYTN II rom on xda-dev? that one shouldnt be buggy Yes, I am aware of that, but I wanted the option to be able to choose what apps are installed by default and which ones aren't. I'm hoping I can find fixes for the stuff that is broken. |

Just flashed my brand new tytn2 to the HTC rom provided by hermi_c on xda dev. So far there are a few bugs some of which make no difference from the orange rom. For example... the htc homescreen plugin is now missing the power and screen rotate icons (though the buttons still work) Also Live Messenger (which doesn't even exist on the orange rom) doesn't actually load. Still playing though. Flashing the rom is REALLY fast! Took about 1/4 of the time it took to flash my universal |

I don't think so, but I imagine they may get a bit suspicious if you bought it and then called up 5 mins later saying your phone is broken. I've bought insurance mid-contract before. |

The day I got my M2000 I went out. I had the phone in it's leather case that it came with, in my top pocket, as I thought it'd be the safest place for it. Screen against my chest. As I left my house, I tripped over a tree root that had broken through the pavement, landed flat on my front, and crushed the phone beyond repair. Orange picked it up the next day and then began the Orange M2000 fiasco which was covered on this very forum back in 2004/5. Several long weeks later I finally got my M2000 back and it's still intact to this day. All I can say is insurance is utterly worth it on these devices, even if you do have to wait several weeks for a replacement |

Wait...I'm confused. Orange provide 3G sims with 3G phones, and 2.5G sims with 2.5G phones. Therefore if you are using the phone they expect you to use, they're hardly losing revenue as there is no point having a sim which has capabilities you can't take advantage of! Sure sure a lot of people swap their sims about, but that's not recommended by Orange, and so they don't support it, hence why they're not about to provide you with a 3G sim for a 2.5G phone. If you change to a 3G phone (supplied by Orange), they WILL upgrade your sim, but as far as they're concerned, their system will show you on a 2.5G phone if you have signed up with one. It's all about keeping their own phones on their own networks. In the long run it's all about advertising. |

Worth mentioning is what to ask for when calling Orange. Most of their staff said "wha?" when asking for a TyTnII (said "Titan Too"). I had to ask for the "Eych-Tee-See Tee-Why-Tee-Enn-Too" It's officially on their system as the "HTC TyTnII / P4550" So spout of some combination of the above and they'll probably be able to find it. |

Nice 1 what tarriff are you on ? I'm on Talk 120 with the old 1000 student text deal. I didn't really feel like changing as it's done me proud for the past 2 years, plus all they were willing to offer me was the web racoon 30 anyway, which would have got me more mins, but way less texts, and cost me more per month in the process, and I only use say 130mins a month anyways. Was a choice between free phone or cheaper tariff. Did the maths and £200 is better than £10 off a month! |

Called up the big O yesterday to see what they could do for me. Threaten them with the word "T-Mobile" and the price of the handset goes from £200 to £0! Not bad considering I'm not a massive user. Only problem is they're out of stock (or were when I called) so I've been put in "the queue". They're apparently gonna call me - but given their track record for callbacks in the past I'm not especially hopeful. Anyone managed to order one since about 11am yesterday? |

Rumour has it that at the latest orange roadshow they had the C600 with wifi (as in, live handsets browsing the net over wifi), and they weren't sure whether it was going to remain in or not. This suggests to me that it will exist in hardware, but be disabled. Not entirely sure what the point of that is! |

QUOTE(Confucious @ Oct 18 2005, 09:06) Great, I have no credit because O stole it without providing the service, they now won't provide the other "free" services without me paying! And they won't take my complaint without me paying either - It is, I believe, a con. If you haven't got your free GPRS then yes, you have an issue. The other things though, you don't really have a leg to stand on with complaints. It does say somewhere in the T&Cs that you need to have the credit, and the service is free, as it wont cost you any money. And you can use a landline to complain if you like - would be cheaper than on your phone too! The number is 07973 100450. Good luck |

QUOTE(Confucious @ Oct 15 2005, 17:48) when I try and send a photo message it comes back with a text saying I don't have enough credit - even though I received text confirmation that I have 30 photo messages free in the next 30 days. NOT impressed! Yeah but you need to have at least 10p of credit to use the free messages - don't know why but that's how it's been since...well...forever really! |

QUOTE(Gumbygaz @ Sep 28 2005, 13:41) I had exaclty the same problem with mine, Downloaded 0.864kb and got charged £8.64!! Rung them up and ever since I took off my GPRS bundle they've been charging me £10 a meg!  That means the CS operator you had didn't re-apply the "pay-as-you-consume" GPRS package. Ring them up and moan and you should be re-credited. |

QUOTE(xerxes @ Aug 9 2005, 18:59) HTC builds the current Treo 650 so it's not suprising that the 670 might be built by them too. You can see some videos of the Treo 670 hereAt Engaget So if HTC make the 650 - then what do palmone/handspring have to do with it? Palm produce the OS HTC apparently produce the device, so what do PalmOne do? |

This all smells like a rat dropped in a bucket of fish to me. I don't know the politics of what happened with handspring - all I know is that they're now called PalmOne, and have access to the Palm trademark. As for the phone itself - the keylock looks dubiously similar to the Palm one seen on the Treo 600/650. If you ask me - this is like what happened ages ago with the sonyericsson P800 that apparently was hacked to run P900 operating system. Turned out just to be a video running in fullscreen mode. If it were windows mobile, I get the feeling they'd choose a different method of displaying it, rather than ripping palm off... this also brings forth a further question. Rumours are that HTC is building and producing this...so what does PalmOne have to do with it whatsoever? or palm for that matter? I notice the keypad still has the Palm/Treo specific "black button" used for options. What possible use could this have in windows mobile? Why the external antenna? HTC haven't used them since the Wallaby! Why is it a Verizon device? Have they already purchased these to sell? As far as things go, this is just another HTC device - why would they even be allowed to use the Treo name? |

I'm looking for one of these too. I'm getting sick and tired of all these stupid remotes building up on my desk. One for my sound card, one for my TV card, one for my projector, one for my TV, one for my DVD player, and then the phone as well... someone suggested a universal remote, which is all well and good...but it still means I have my phone and my remote. I'd much rather just use the phone. And I know the IR unit isn't very powerful, but in my room everything is at arms length (and before you make a point about me being lazy or suchlike, most of the functions of my remotes are remote-only...no controls on the actual device). I could use my M2000, but it's a cumbersome way of doing things, because it means I have to bring it out of standby, pull out the stylus, enter my lock code, go to start, programs, find the remote software and then load it - all of which I might as well be hunting for the proper remote. Much easier to use the phone which I have sat next to me at all times, click the shortcut on the homescreen and away I go. |

OK I don't know if this has been said yet, but I could only be bothered reading to page 10. I can confirm that the Shop side of things has had no mention of an M500 AT ALL. No briefs, no pictures, it's never ever been on the upcoming handset lists. That's why the only time you will ever hear someone know about the M500 in an orange shop is if they use the internet and look this sorta stuff up! As far as the shop side of things is concerned, the M500 is a myth! Surely you must mean the C500 sir/madam! Anyhoo, as from what I can gather, the M500 WILL be available in Orange Business stores...but not yet, and ONLY to business customers. There are rumours that it will appear as available to the general public - but these are still rumours at present. Don't forget that the shops don't even know it exists! Tell the truth, you'd find it hard to find someone who knows about the SPV 3G as well! Just in case anyone is planning on trying to get hold of one in a shop! Unless you already have one - cos it'd be a big shock for someone to see a phone that they didn't even know their company made! |

If I knew I would have told you. What I did was I took the extrom from the orange 1.31 release, replaced all of the old apps with the new ones from the 1.40 i-mate rom and installed that onto the phone. That way I had all of the newest apps with all of the orange software as well. You just need to make sure that the extrom is <16MB |

Short version: You need to get a .cab that's compatible with the M2000. Then you need to learn about the extrom on the phone, put the cab into it and do a hard reset. Then it will work. Long version: Read very carefully through http://wiki.xda-developers.com as it is the best source of information around for it - also read the forums. I have updated to the 1.40 i-mate rom and cooked my own extrom from components of the i-mate 1.4 and the orange 1.31 extroms - works like a dream! |

You'll find that this happens with almost all mobile phone digital cameras, not just teh C500... similarly, try pointing a TV remote or similar device at the camera and press a button on the remote. You can see the transmitter lighting up! |

QUOTE(jmcglynn @ Mar 11 2005, 09:27) Thanks Farhad. Yes, I already have that setup. After going round and round in circles a bit, I have finally realised what I'm after:- A way of locking the screen (as Fraser suggests) without having to wait for a timeout. Bit like pressing * and # at the same time on a Nokia (I presume you can still do that on a Nokia). Jim Well, you can just set the timeout to 0 seconds :S then when you press the standby button it will automatically ask you for the lock code with no time delay...not ideal I know And it's Menu then * on nokias. * and # was for old motorolas |

The connector on the bottom of the M2000, whilst being a derivative of USB, will not work to run USB devices. There are 2 types of USB devices, master and slave i believe. So running most PC USB devices off it isn't possible unfortunately. |
