How good is the GPS? Vs. a bluetooth reciever anyway? I've heard mixed results.
Can you confirm (easy one I know) this device does not have any kind of hardware keyboard.

What's your opinions on this over the Hermes as a device to actually use?

You need to ensure wi-fi is both enabled on your Universal AND it has established a connection to your wireless network BEFORE attempting to connect to your desktop.

If this is already the case then apologies but I'm stumped too!

Yup, it is.
Using Resco I can browse my PC file shares and play files over the network, if I try to connect via the in-built file explorer then the device will attempt to connect via 3g.

I want to use terminal services internally (well within my network) via wifi but whenever I try to connect to my machine name (or internal IP) it just attempts to connect to 3G, how do I get around this?

I've got a C600 and the grid toggler doesn't seem to do a thing; once ran it says "Cab installed sucessfully" but it doesn't change anything.

Any ideas?

In the January 06 guide from the O2 shop on page 33 the O2 XDA Exec is listed as free on any business tariff of £45 and above and £99.99 on all other business tariffs (this brochure is freely available from any O2 shop in case the O2 staff don't believe you when you ask for this deal)

The cheapest available business tariff is the standalone Data 5 tariff at £9.40 per month inc VAT (£8 per month ex VAT) which has a minimum term committment of 12 months. Furthermore, if you trade in an old phone when you get the XDA Exec then you will receive a cheque back for £50 within 28 days.

So that's £168 for a nice XDA Exec.

Right; I decided (slightly begrudgingly) that for what I wanted Orange would be about £10 a month cheaper than O2, even though I quite liked the SP5.

Upgrades told me the usual story, 18 months etc. and said there's no way I can do it.

Phoned retentions, asked for my PAC code, she said she was surprised that Upgrades even said 18months and made it out like they made a mistake and 12months was fine.

Because I'm a 3rd party account holder I had to phone up a 2nd time to upgrades to pretend I was the main account holder (my father) Retentions didn't even ask me for my name or password!

Oh & I'm currently on the O2 400 Tarrif (400 x-mins + 50 Free Txt's), 15 meg GPRS Package + 120 Txt Bundle, bills usually come in just under or over £100 a month

As you can tell, some people are struggling with getting them down; but if you phone up, with your tariff, I think you can demand that somebody delivers the C600 personally and cleans your shoes while they're there.

Speak to retentions mate.

I just phoned up and asked about the phone.
It's definitly available on upgrade and for me it's free.

But if I also want to change my talkplan (mine originally came with free texts for 18months)
So if I change my talk-plan and upgrade my phone, to something which is a 12 month contract for new customers, they're going to make me renew to an 18 month contract.

I think I'm going to get the SP5 on O2, it's quite a bit of messing around with third party companies, but I can't be bothered with Orange anymore, and T-Mobile are too expensive for texters.

But now I'm seriously thinking that I'll buy the MDA Compact on T-Mobile

Thanks to Orange Customer Services of course.

Excellent!
The only question I have though, will this "rom unlock" the phone like the £20 solution or purely sim unlock?

I have recently flashed my phone with the i-mate SP3 and QTek 8010 SP3 Rom.
They're both great but for one thing.

Menus permanently display the in-call icon.

Anyone else have similar issue, and/or know of a way to get rid of it?

That isn't the in-call icon if I'm right; it's the "Caller photo enabled" icon.

I fixed it by a quick regedit; usual disclaimer of this has only ever been tested on one phone by me and any damage is your own fault

change
\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\IA Style\IA Caller ID for Smartphone\1.12\IACallerID\ShowInitIcon from 1 to 0

Worked for me!

If you can post the Audiovox ROM here then you will be worshipped for life. Its the latest version of the HTC Typhoon ROM with WMP10, but just isn't available anywhere on the net.

I have a v3 unlocked C500 phone; and therefore can put any ROM I choose on it.

Which is the fastest (latest) and most reliable ROM out of the imate, the SMT and the QTEK?

Sorry for double posting, but I'm a bit stupid.
Its alright; it does seem a bit nippier when chaging between apps, and I think the camera s/w has been updated as the photos just seem a touch sharper.
The downsides are my phone saying imate in HUGE letters on boot; it'd be nice not to say anything and the icons for certain things (camera, multimedia album, etc) just don't seem as nice.
Overall its nice to have, but in all honesty I'm not sure I see the benefit for the amount of time it took to unlock the phone, flash it & have to reinstall all my applications.

I've just flashed my Orange C500 with the imate software, it definitly seems nippier now and apart from not being able to find my home screen again I have one problem.

How do you remove the Caller ID icon at the top of the screen? It wasn't on the C500 and its just annoying being there, so can you remove it?
Cheers

In "theory" if anything flashing with a different ROM could lock it to a different network; although they say it won't.
But in all honesty if this happens then all you need to do is to re-unlock the phone with the app.

I've backed up all my files in readiness for flashing; but I'm still not sure if its really worth the £20, but then again I do have an O2 sim at home with LOADS of free texts I could do with utilising.

How much faster does the new ROM make the phone, and is it really worth the £20 to get it unlocked? (just for the rom, not for a different sim)

Does the Audiovox rom work and would that give me WM10? Otherwise what are the advantages (no orange theming) and disadvantages (no orange plugin) of flashing the rom.

Would I still keep "caller picture" or is that part of the orange plugin?

This cable;
http://www.aria.co.uk/ProductInfoComm.asp?ID=15076
also works 100% fine for syncing and charging, as I purchased one the other day and now I have a cable for work and one for home.
I know it is a bit expensive (well you can get it cheaper) but its a long cable and Aria are the only computer company I trust 100% now.
Also I actually went down for this;
http://www.aria.co.uk/ProductInfoComm.asp?ID=16464 which also 100% works in the c500 and is absolutly top for my mp3s and SCUMM files.
