This is turd. It screws around with the bluetooth amoung other things. Anyway how can you debrand an Orange phone thats made just for Orange? What are you debranding it to?
This is just your own custom written firmware which isn't very good at all.
Don't give up your day job!

I had no problem with Bluetooth when I used the debrand pack. Worked fine for me. And it's not made exclusively for Orange. It's a HTC Vox with Oranges shocking colour scheme added. It's also known as HTC S710, Vodafone V1415 and some other names I can't remember (the Vox Wiki seems to be down as well). The debrand pack isn't a firmware, it just replaces the crappy Orange graphics with the original HTC ones.

Thanks for your help Prof. Yaffle - don't think I would have been brave enough to try the Dr Gonzo ROM without your reassurance.

Cheers!

Now you've got it all working there's an altered version on XDA developers. wink.gif It's the same Dr Gonzo ROM but with some bits altered for newer versions that seem to make it snappier. I've just given it a go. Because it's only the XIP bit that's altered and not the rest of the ROM you can do a backup with Sprite Backup (I used the demo), install the new ROM and then do a restore with Sprite. Ever so easy and quick to do.

Thanks. That's fixed those. Just spotted another one though. If I go into the details for Google Maps I can't scroll down at all. I guess that's probably related?

I may have found a couple of problems with the new one. I'm using an E650 with Dr. Gonzo's ROM. I have 3 items in my list but can't move up or down them or select anything. The previous version was ok. Also, if I do a refresh I get the original list of items and then the refreshed list added to the bottom.

No probs.

I couldn't find the cab the other night for love nor money (was still very hungover). Never thought to look in the pinned bit at the top of the Vox forum. laugh.gif It's here.

I tried it very briefly before going to Dr Gonzo's. It generally seemed a lot more responsive. It didn't seem to pause when doing things half as much as the old ROM. Still ugly as sin though without the debrand pack.

There's a cab file on Modaco somewhere but Niz1 posted a link to http://setuporange.wdsglobal.com/ which gave me exactly the same settings as I originally had (the cab file seems to add a couple of extra settings with random names). The settings I'd originally missed is found by going into Messaging and then highlighting MMS. Press the right soft key and select Preferences. Then press the right soft key again and select MMSC Settings. I completely missed those when I copied down all my settings.

That does sound good.

I know my way around Windows Mobile but am a bit of noob when it comes to ROM flashing etc. If I managed to get the WM6.1 Gonzo ROM applied (is it straight forward? haven't yet read that link - thanks) am I right in thinking that I could revert to the Orange ROM by just re-running the package that I downloaded from Orange? Do I need to do anything with CID etc? I looked in to flashing my C600 a while back and I seem to remember you had to do something to the CID to apply other ROMs?

I was the same last weekend. I'd only flashed one official Rom back on my C600. As long as you follow the readme included with Dr. Gonzo's you'll be fine. People seem to have problems when they don't follow it to the T and still have partially locked phones. The only thing I'd add is after the reboot after installing the new ROM, wait patiently. It seems to stick at a normal load screen for 5 minutes or so. This is normal, if you wait it will carry on with the install eventually.

There's also a newer version of the Radio that you can get by either flashing the official Orange ROM first or by downloading it separately from XDA and installing at any point you want. If you change your mind after installing Dr. Gonzo's ROM you can just install the official Orange ROM without having to do anything else (if I understand it correctly).

Marvellous - thanks for taking the time to try that out. Much appreciated. I'll give it a go this w/e.

BTW Is Doctor Gonzo's ROM the reverse engineered Windows 6.1 ROM? Think I read about that somewhere. I'd be interested to know how you get on with it.

Thanks again,

A.

Yeap, that's the one. There's a thread about it here.

I've had it on since last Sunday and really like it up to now. The phone seems a lot quicker and more stable. With the Orange ROM it used to pause quite a lot when selecting things. Startup time from first switching on seems quicker. It has a vibrate reminder for missed calls / text messages which should really have been included from day one. Threaded SMS seems good up to now. Bluetooth and WiFi can now be enabled / disabled with long presses on the volume keys. The new homescreen is also good.

Just lots of little things that all add up.

I have a Orange UK E650 Can I just flash it with the the Gonzo 6.1 rom and it will still know all the settings for sms gprs e.t.c which are specific to orange.

I have a UK E650 and did mine at the weekend. It was dead easy to do provided you follow the instructions properly. There seem to be a lot of people on XDA Developers who don't and have problems. I made a note of all the settings before I did mine or so I thought. Turns out there are advanced settings in the MMS screen that I'd missed. The SMS centre and answerphone settings where there automatically after a reboot but the WAP and GPRS settings weren't and I couldn't add them all manually because of the MMS ones I'd missed. Luckily the .cab file from here worked perfectly. The only real problem I had was that after I'd ran Messenger for the first time it ground to a halt (seems others had the same problem). A hard reset cured it so my advice would be to install the new ROM and then immediately after do a hard reset to save you having to do it later. Also, the Tomtom backlight bug that seems to effect most HTC phones is present so if you use Tomtom mobile you'll need to do the fix for that as well.

And there's also a radio update available as well which can be done separately either before or after.

It seems a lot above but it really isn't and the new ROM is great up to now. It's a lot quicker than the old one, the missed call / text vibrate is great and should have been part of the OS from day one. It's a lot faster starting up from first being switched on and seems a lot more stable. Also the new home screen is great as is threaded SMS. And the battery life seems good to. Mine's been on since 8.30am and is still at 80%. I also like having WiFi as a long press on the volume down key, far easier than the normal way of doing it.

Just as a guide here's my homescreen with Rinku's IconBar (thanks again frauhottelmann for the great theme).

Hi Paul/all

I installed the fix/debrand pack way back last year - thanks again!

I notice there is now an Orange ROM update available here:

http://www.business.orange.co.uk/servlet/S...DeviceDownloads

Was wondering if the fix/debrand pack is compatible with this update? Perhaps the update from Orange now contains some of the fixes?

Hmmm not sure whether to try the Orange update and redo the fix/debrand.....

I was hoping this update from Orange would be Windows 6.1 - it doesn't say so anywhere in the readme, so expect it isn't. sad.gif

Cheers,

A.

I'm in the process of putting Doctor Gonzo's ROM on mine so thought I'd put the newest Orange ROM update on with the debrand pack to give you an answer. The new ROM itself seems faster and the good news is it seems to work with the Debrand pack. The new ROM is still ugly as sin without the debrand though.

Edit

Here are the new ROM details in case they are any use to anyone.

Radio 4.1.13.60_03.18.90
Operator 22.135.1.611
ROM 1.35.61.1

Something seems to have gone wrong with the newest version on my E650. When the new version of AppToDate was detected it downloaded it and said it had installed the newest version but now it's not in my menu at all. I've tried reinstalling it and it seems to install fine but nothing when it's done. Nothing in the Remove Programs bit or in the Program Files directory either. I've tried redownloading it and also several reboots all with no joy. Any ideas?

This was discussed in another thread somewhere. It worked on mine but not someone elses. It turned out that it depends if the keypad is locked or unlocked when the call comes in. Apparently if it was unlocked beforehand then the volume down key twice will work. If it was locked beforehand then it won't.

I swapped Tomtom Mobile 5.2 from a C600 to a E650 without any problem. From what I can make out you can move it from one phone to another once without having to contact Tomtom. After that you need to contact them. If you slide the keyboard out it does nothing to the display and what's more the keyboard doesn't work well with Tomtom, you're better off using the number pad. I've not got Tomtom 6 but from what I've seen here Tomtom 6 can be made to work on the E650 using something called Fakecursor.

I've just installed Singularity. Very nice. Thanks.

This may be a bit cheeky but is there any chance of doing a Vox theme with the wallpaper from Prosper Showcar?

Thanks again.

Assuming nothings changed in a year you can do this with 02. I did exactly that from my C500 to my C600. I chose O2 because I knew the signal was none existent at home and work. It took about a week to port to O2 and then another week to port back to Orange.

Nothing to do with un de-brand process. I have a T-Mobile Dash in the USA and it too shows two extra digits in the IMEI when viewed through the phone menus. Not sure if it specifically a WM6 thing or if it was that way with WM5 too. I never looked before requesting a Carrier Unlock from T-Mobile a couple of weeks ago, and I was already on WM6 by then.

I've had a C500 and a C600 before and must admit I've not noticed the extra digits before but then again I've not been looknig for them either.

In my case it's Tomtom Mobile 5.2 with the UK map.

Excellent work. Looks sooo much better.

I am, however, having the Tomtom activation problem that others mention. I think it may be to do with the app unlocking rather than the icons change. I have done a hard reset and app unlocked the phone, and then Tomtom asks to reactivate. I am waiting for the relocking code from O. I want to see if unlocking the phone, installing the new icons and then relocking the phone will fix the TT problem.

I'm pretty sure it's not the app unlocking. I didn't reset my phone before installing and it had been app unlocked since I got it. If I install the de-brander Tomtom requests reactivation. If I then uinstall the de-brander Tomtom works as before with the previously activated map. You can look at the Device ID with and without the de-brander installed and it's different.

Unfortunately Tomtom still comes up with the activation request and the same different Device code with v0.2 of the de-Brander.
