What does this device have that the Diamond doesn't, apart from the KB?

You need to port it from Orange Contract to any other provider's PAYG then back to new Orange contract.

You make it sound easy, but are there limitations on this, time etc.? How long would it take, & how can I be sure that I can take my old number back to O "just like that" on this offer?

It does all sound a bit too good to be true, if you know what I mean! smile.gif

What's wrong with porting your number out to a PAYG SIM then porting it back to your new phone?

I didn't know I could do that to "switch" contracts with the same supplier...? Never changed supplier so haven't had the need to. Care to explain how...?

Edit: I HAVE to keep the same number btw...

I've just wasted 15 minutes reading 6 pages of this thread and no-one bothered to mention whether I can do this as an upgrade or not? I assume not, but just even mentioning that on the first page would have been helpful... sad.gif

So if I have to keep my number (business) then I either have to stick with Orange and get a crap deal and no goodies, or move to another network and still get no goodies? Last time I spoke to T-Mo about moving they offered me NOTHING.

I'm ten months out of contract (no-one's had a handset I want) and want this sorted asap, anyone want to poke/PM/help?

Can anyone shed light on what sort of deal I would be likely to get on this handset as a new customer moving to T from O (10yrs) ?

I'm currently on a Hermes (still!) and paying about 50 quid a month, for 100 mins (+400 free), 100 texts (+360 free) and the 2GB net package. I'm *months* out of contract and O owe me a couple of favours. Not sure what to do...

Edit: also...

What's in the box

* Battery
* Charger
* Standard Headset

eh??

D'oh. Brain freeze.

Isn't this going to get you into hot water with the bandwidth police pretty quickly tho? Or is it pretty frugal on that front?

And what of the so far mixed reviews? Are we to believe that this is a sluggish unit with poor battery life, or is it the dogs... I mean, bee's knees? smile.gif

This sorta looks like it will make the camera suffer though, it appears that the case is now further away from the lens...?

Raphael looks like a winner! I am six months behind on my upgrade (shock, to anyone that knows me) so I am looking forward to these two.

Paul, can we get notified of the releases of these? It was well after xmas that I found out the Kaiser was available on Orange. By that time, I'd already talked myself out of getting one, given that O were so crap with the Tytn. I've had six of them. It would be nice to know who gets what and when, as soon as anyone knows...

Can't believe the size of those new units anyway - the sizeeasy comparison of the tytn II and the raphael beggars belief really...!

I would try resetting your handset a few times. This happens to me infrequently, despite no "actual" block existing on my handset/account. It will probably start working soon enough.

Can we get some clarification on this?

This is for a Hermes-type device, for sure - does it WORK on non-HTC BRANDED devices? Is it a legal upgrade path, for e.g. Orange users?

If the upgrade can be applied, what other steps must be taken in order to accomplish this successfully?

Any other information gladly received (in lieu of the fact I am now on my SEVENTH M3100, and have another fault already (brand new unit!))

Ditto. I'm on Orange, been out of contract for 2 months and I want to upgrade. I've been toying with the 3100 but if this is on the horizon I'll hang on. Although Orange haven't been as quick on the uptake of new handsets as they used to be...

M3100 is a turkey, leave well alone. I'm about to get my SIXTH handset. Breaks all the time, constant soft reset, buggy firmware (even when upgraded to WM6), naff radio stack etc.

Now then you crazy gaggle! smile.gif

You can't get a commercial copy of PhonePad unfortunately; I'm sure someone's been bugging HTC about this, but to no avail. I wholeheartedly agree that it's a massive oversight (or whatever, there's differing opinions as to why it's been removed) to not have this installed on non-KB devices.

Like Paul says, your next best equivalent is probably Tengo. Personally I've had lots of issues with using non-ROM input devices, but hey ho. That was on the Hermes, maybe the Trinity will be different (you better hope so!)

Still waiting for mine to arrive. Anyone got theirs yet? Just been back to check my order (despatched!) and noticed what appears to be a price drop.. it's now just £7.89 (inc del).

;-]

No -they sent me ANOTHER email telling me my transaction had failed and that I had to ring them up again!

I haven't bothered to check the order status or my card yet, which I will probably do tomorrow. Crap, though, nonetheless.
It's like they don't want our money!

buying a cheap memory card might not be so bad, but i would defo recommend AGAINST buying a cheap webcam - that would be akin to buying unbranded bog-roll! you just don't do it!!

a) I needed a headset - I don't have a mic; but I do need to use it on a computer wherever I am, so it needs to be portable
b ) I needed a webcam
c) I get 30 mins free skypeout time
d) It's all Skype-branded stuff
e) It was 15 quid all in
f) I'm fairly skint and happy to risk it for basically a fiver - no harm done. It's more for purposes of investigation.

Edit: I was a bit worried about these guys, but hopefully it will be ok. They sent me an email telling me my order was held, and I had to call them. They cross ref'd my stuff and the CC # was totally wrong... I gave them the deets over the phone because I was feeling lazy but I kinda wish I hadn't now. Checked it all out and seems ok, but also seems odd that they would email me with no order ref number and an incorrect cc #.

Likewise. Sold! Why not. Can always use more storage. Means I can bring a film home from work as well.

They have jolly cheap skype headsets and webcams as well it seems.

There's a couple of device locks on the xda-developers site then you just re-map one of the buttons.

Google for 'DeviceLock'. Works fine.

I am amazed at your bad luck. I know about 40 M3100 owners and all but one are happy with their devices - admittedly I look after about 15 of them as part of support contracts - but none have experienced the problems that you list.

The one guy who isn't happy with his is experiencing connectivity problems which I think is just down to a weak transceiver.

The only problem with mine is where the coating on the back of the screen module is flaking off (where my right forefinger rubs against it when in landscape mode)!

I think a lot of the software problems have been caused by Agile Messenger, but there's been SO many of them it's almost unbelievable. Maybe it's Pocket Plus as well or something. I got my new handset saturday morning, and I think I must have reset it about 10 times by the end of the weekend! I'll probably have to check through all my software and see how it goes...
