As far as I know, Sky are the same as BT in that they will not allow you to download emails via an email client (Outlook, Outlook Express, Windows Live Mail Desktop etc) unless you are connected using your router.

So you may find that you can download emails using your MDA Vario 2 when connected to your wireless Sky router, but not over GPRS. mad.gif

BT provide webmail, and so do Sky however I never seem to be able to log in to the Sky webmail when I am at work.

(BTW: PIE stands for Pocket Internet Explorer)

That's not good mad.gif

I assume you tried all of the 'usual' tricks such as running in Compatibility mode (XP) as Administrator?

I had the problem of connecting through WMDC, however when I checked the Ports & Protocol tabs as described, I noticed that ActiveSync was listed at the top of the list.

Putting a tick in that box solved the connection problems!

BTW: There are also settings for XBox Media Center Extenders on that list...
(Don't be fooled by the fact that the list is greyed out, you can still tick the boxes huh.gif )

Actually I figure that it isn't the phone, but more likely to be the case that comes with the phone from T-Mobile which has 4 HUGE magnets in it!!!!

I wondered if anyone has experienced the same problem as me.

I travel into London by train everyday and have always put my SPV C500 in the same pocket as my train tickets without any problems.

I have got myself a MDA Vario and have found that whenever I put the train ticket in the same pocket as the Vario, the ticket seems to get wiped and won't work on the automatic barriers.

I am now on my second replacement ticket (Season) and am keeping it well away from my phone.

If it is the case that the phone is interfering with the mag stripe, then I guess it would be a good idea to keep away from credit cards, etc!!

Unfortunately the T9 dictionary in the C500 and later phones has changed format significantly and I haven't been able to crack it as yet.

I have tried to contact everyone I could think of who could help but no one has replied

I will be revisiting this shortly in a hope of divine inspiration on cracking the format - and will release a phone version of he app if I manage to succeed.

I have updated the application so that it now has an icon.
I have also amended the file browser to sort the files and directories.

Haven't done a splash screen yet and the logs are still written to My Documents.

Enjoy smile.gif

Thanks for the feedback fozzie, in answer to your questions:

1. I will endeavor to put an appropriate icon on it for the next release.
2. The listing isn't alphabetical as it shows the order in which the apps are started.
3. It was deliberate to show as an example.
4. I may well move these files for the next release.

I'm working on a splash screen and some other features for the next release.

Watch this space.

Sorry about the delay - I got a bit bogged down in real work.

Please find attached the full package including StorageStart.exe, StartUp Manager and example config file.

Probably best to uninstall the original StorageStart from your phone first before installing the cab file.

You will get a Shortcut installed on the Start Menu called "StartUp Manager". This is the app for altering the configuration file.

Have a play with it and let me know if it works ok for you - especially if you get any warnings when starting the application.

Cheers,

Steve

I would have to be very careful as to not accidentaly infringe their copyright!!!

I will start work on a front end for it shortly. Would it be more useful as a SmartPhone app or a Windows app?

No payment required, it gave me a good excuse to brush up on my Embedded C++ which was going a little rusty!!

Glad it works well for you.

I have fixed the problem of only one program starting - I thought that it might have done that, but thought that it might be a good idea to see if my code works on your phone!!!!

Please see attached for new version.

BTW did you get a warning about untrusted code when you ran it (first boot)?

Here is an beta version of the application for you to try.

Just copy the CAB file to your phone and run it.

It will create a file called StorageStart.cfg in your \Storage\My Documents folder which you will need to edit to point at the applications that you want to run on your storage card (and example is already in there).

Give it a go and see if it works.

Steve

PS: Obviously select install to 'Phone' rather than '\Storage Card' !!!

PPS: On first time run through (ie boot) you may get a screen about trusted source, etc - once you have done this once it should never happen again.

Sorry for the delay, but this is proving trickier than I first expected as my routine that waits for the storage card to be available is bombing out!! :x

Don't worry though, I will crack it and get a version to you wink.gif

I have knocked together something quickly and I will send it to you tomorrow (via PM).

Basically there will be a configuration file where you just list the paths to the executables that you want to execute (CRLF seperated).

Then all you have to do is include the new executable (or shortcut to it) in your \Storage\Windows\StartUp directory and it will execute all the applications in the config file.

Just doing some final test (so that it doesn't lock up your phone!!) and then I will release.

Would I be correct in assuming that these shortcuts work if the application is installed on Phone Memory (\Storage)?

On my C500 I have a shortcut called 'CardStart' which points to \windows\CardStart.exe - do you not have this?

I have heard from other developers that it is probably not best practice to launch applications that are either installed or required the storage card as it sometimes takes a little time to be available after the phone has booted. :?:

Otherwise a small application could be written that will wait for the storage card to become available, and then execute the target application. I could do this if there is enough interest wink.gif

Out of interest, what is the name of your shortcut?

If you are trying to start an application that is installed on your storage card, then it will have to be executed AFTER CardStart.exe otherwise the storage card is not accessible.

I'm not sure what order the apps are executed in \Storage\Windows\StartUp, but as a first guess I would make sure that your shortcut is at least alphabetically after CardStart.

Has anyone else noticed that hitting the green 'call start' key now displays the full call history list rather than a list of outgoing calls?

The list also includes missed calls, and calls from unknown (withheld) numbers.

I was in the Orange shop in Basinsgtoke on Monday (9/05/05) and the guy in the shop said that the C550 will be available in either the first or 2nd week of June.

He didn't give me any indication as to the PAYG or contract prices.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but unless gothi has cracked it, I can't see a way of cracking the T9 database for the C500 (or any using T9AW.udb).

I've still had no response from any of the manufacturers on how to interpret it - but I will still keep on trying biggrin.gif

Steve

PS: If someone does manage to crack the DB, let me know and I will knock up the application.

Paul very kindly sent me a copy of the T9 database that is on his C500...

The bad news is that my T9 Editor will NOT work with the C500 as it has adopted the QTEK version of the T9 database.

I've been trying to crack the format of this file for months with no luck as it is a very strange way of storing the words - In my opinion the E200 version is a lot better because a) you have 4K's worth of space, and cool.gif the method for storing the words seems more efficient !!!

There is a CDB file (t9AW.cdb) that gets stored as well which just seems to have all the text that you entered in SMS, email (any text entry in fact). I can only guess that there is a process that picks this file up and dumps new words into the udb file, hence why the new words are not picked up on the fly.

Would anyone be interested in a version of this for the phone itself?
It would only have limited functionality such as delete words and maybe add, but it is possible.

gothi - if you want to do it yourself, let me know and I will step aside...
