I'm really shocked so many people are putting a downer on this phone.
I thought we were going to have till 2009 and WinMo 7 to get a modern interface on Winmo handset.
Just think this is just the entry level version, all the new HTC Winmo phones will have this Gui and I'm sure updated versions of it.
So when the replacements for Touch and PDA and Smartphones series are released there will be a varity of options and specs.

I've had Winmo phones since the orignal SPV i think this will be the first time ill be able show my mates that i have cool phone instead of telling i have it because
i need for work.

I dont think you can format via the standard OS. I bought an Advent reader in my local electrical retailers for about £20. It can read pretty much all card types (although the microSD needs to be read in its sd adapter). XP allows you to format fat or fat 32.

I'm finding i having to soft reset mine twice a day now. But the problem happens everyone once in while when i open txt message then i when i go to read it after ive done a soft reset the txt message is gone and i have no idea who sent it or what was in.

Im trying to remember there is a way of getting the last 5 txt message sent to your phone resent anyone know how.

Looking for opinions from old C600 users that have moved to the M3100.

How do you find the device without a 0 - 9 ABC keyboard? hard to start with but you get use to it after Week

Do you notice the size and weight increase much? Yes but the added features more than make up for it

DOes it fit in your pocket like the C600 can? No because i allways put it in the case as i dont want to scratch the screen not like my C600 thats was scratched to badword

Hi, like to say what a great ppc forum this is. Been browsing for a while but never posted. This is my first skin for HTC Hermes with video call button skinned. It's 90% finished, cannot find where the speed dial and history buttons are located to skin them. I was hoping if anyone can help me complete it.

Download here

from readme.txt

Zphone skin - for HTC Hermes WM5 QVGA pocket pc phone edition only

22nd August 2006

Tested on Dopod 838 Pro

Version 1.0

--------------------

This skin is for HTC Hermes pocket pc phone with 3G video calling capability. It should not be installed on any other type of phone.

* Note - Version 1.0 does not have call history and speed dial icons skinned.

* The skin on the top and bottom bars in the screenshot is achieved with 3rd party program - Lakeridge’s Wisbar Advance 2. The skin name is called Zombienexus WA Black 2 (Black skin suite)

--------------------

Please backup before installing just in case after you uninstall, things don't go back to normal
--------------------

Installation instructions:

1. Copy skin cab to your ppc and run it to install.
2. When it asks where to place it, choose device.
3. Soft reset.
---------------------

Uninstall

1. Tap on Start Menu > Settings > System > Remove programs
2. Remove zphone skin
3. Soft reset.

You missunderstood what i meant about the phone software starting up. the phone is fast enough i would just like the dial pad software to load when i unlock the phone by default.

QUOTE(jimbouk @ Aug 17 2006, 09:43) *
This is the classic phone form-factor to pda issue. I had spv, e200 and c500 and loved them. The move to the m500 was a big change and at times I thought about putting the sim back in to a c500. BUT having got used to it, I moved to and IMATE JAMin (same as M600) and loved the onboard wifi etc and am now fully loved up with my 3100.

I dont understand the references to phone software not starting up straight away. Maybe its due to the fact I am coming from an Omap processor on the Prophet, but I have found the 3100 to be lightening fast.

I wonder if you have done the simplest speed tweak - ie removing sounds for events, warnings etc and made sure that screen taps sound is disabled. As long as the programs and notifications sounds option is ticked you still get all the sounds you need, but with events disabled, the device doesn't have to load and play a wav file on each click of stylus and on every window opening. It speeds up the general response of pocket pc's considerably. You should also regularly go to settings, system, memory, running programs and shut down all the apps that have remained running in background.

I know exactly how you feel, my past four phones have been SPV smartphones.
But this device is a PDA with some phone functions added on. I prefer the Smartphone software but i am slowly finding more uses for the extra function that Pocket PC version adds.

It would be nice if as soon as you unlock the device the phone software would load.

QUOTE(philg2000 @ Aug 17 2006, 07:46) *
I should also add the other things influencing my decision.

For a phone its stil a bit on the large and certainly heavy side. Difficult one this, coz you wouldn't want it any smaller as a PDA esp with the slideout keyboard.

Quite a bit of my software needs updating. I have TomTom3 on my 4150 iPaq, that won't run on WM5 and I have to pay full price for v5 coz the upgrade offer has expired.
I also have copilot 6 Smartphone version, and whilst it will load, when run the display is all crunched up. Alk tell me I need to purchase the Pocket PC version, no upgrade price, even tho both versions are WM5 compatible.

Likewise Fizz Traveller and Resco Explorer & Photo viewer.

(Although being able to type all this on my phone is pretty cool!)

Anyone else share my sentiments?

Do you mean when you set a picture as a background for the today screen?
If so, open the Photo you want to use in 'Pictures and Videos'
Tap and hold... select 'Set as today background',
and you can set the transparency level smile.gif

Yes thanks a lot
