Hmmm. Surprised non of you have drawn Pepsi Max into this as I understand Coke Zero is a direct attempt by Coca Cola to counter that product of Pepsi's...

I won't touch Diet Coke with a barge pole. Think it tastes horrid. Coke Zero isn't as nice as regular Coke but I choose it over Diet Coke.

Never liked any of the "Diet" cola's, and to be honest I wouldn't say I was immediately taken to Pepsi Max, but I wouldn't drink anything else now. Used to swear by Coke, never too keen on Pepsi, but tried some the other day and although I wouldn't say I dislike it now, it wasn't as good as I remember. Pepsi Max now anytime.

Guess I should add that I did try Coke Zero and although I'd prefer it over Diet anything, I currently prefer the Pepsi Max taste. I did feel though that it reminded me of my first taste of Pepsi Max, not bad, but not brilliant.

By the way, didn't vote as none of the options were remotely appropriate for me.

Try setting your card to 1280 X 720 and you should get a perfect desktop. The problem arises because you are using a differen resolution to the TV and it is having to adjuset.
HD TV is either 1280 720 or 1920 1080 interlaced - neither of which are standard PC resolutions due to the difference in screen shape. If your card supports either of these sizes DVI should be markedly better (Due to the fact that the signal doesn't have to be MODulated wink.gif )

Yeah, it's all down to 1:1 pixel mapping.

I tried a few diff. resolutions, including 1280 x 720, none of which made any difference to the quality of the desktop. To be honest I haven't been putting too much effort into it, I may have another go sometime, but as the picture quality of HD material wasn't a fantastic amount different over DVI than VGA, I may just stick with VGA. That way I get to use a nice 1368x768 screen res for desktop that looks picture perfect and the videos still look very good.

Any news on the result from disconnecting the VGA cable?

Yes, DVI now working properly. Really don't know why I didn't realise that before. It was only when talking about it on here that I remembered something I read a while back, that graphics cards will default to the first connector it "sees" and use that, so it was alwaya operating through the VGA port.

Although I could get a picture from the DVI at the same time it was not HD. How ever I must say that although the HD movies looked better, it wasn't by a fantastic amount, and at the sacrifice of a poorer windows desktop display, so I have switched back to the VGA cable where I get a spot on desktop and a hardly noticeable drop in quality when playing videos, HD or otherwise.

VGA = Video Graphics Array = 640 X 480
SVGA = Super VGA = 800 X 600
XGA = eXtended Graphics Array = 1024 X 768

Or so I remember them - Just phound http://searchsmb.techtarget.com/sDefinitio...i211966,00.html and it goes into more detail.
Calling 1368 X 768 VGA is like calling an ADSL switch a modem (MoDulator - DEModulator -which is exactly what it doesn't do!)

Am I showing my age here....

I wasn't calling 1386x768 res. VGA. I merely stated I was using what is commonly known as a VGA cable connection from PC to TV.

If you want to split hairs, I'm also sure a switch is a switch, and an ADSL Modem is an ADSL Modem. Whether it modulates or demodulates is immaterial to the majority, as they are commonly known as Modems. You can how ever get ADSL Modems with in built switches, or is it the other way around?

I'm a little confused, did you try your graphics card DVI out but have now reverted back to VGA? if you're still using the VGA but are plugging it into the HDMI or DVI socket on your TV you won't notice any difference between VGA from PC to VGA in on TV!

£60 sounds steep! my 3m DVI-DVI cable was about £15-20?! :S

If your using some sort of VGA to DVI converter that's probably where the quality loss is coming in.

Actually no idea why it never occured before, but I may me making the ultimate newbie mistake. I have both cables in use VGA -> VGA, AND DVI -> HDMI, now that may be my mistake. Maybe the VGA out is overriding the DVI, and DVI is actually not being used.

I figured you get what you pay for and read lots of stuff about HTPC and it seemed general concensus was good quality cables are worth investing in for best results.

No converters in use.

HDTV and DVI is the way to go!

mmmm 26" monitor with picture in picture so you can watch TV at the same time.

Is your TV a standard CRT? ie a normal tv, not plasma or LCD? Otherwise you may find it pretty hard to use as a monitor as the picture quality on a standard TV will be crumby compared to even a half decent CRT monitor.

I set up my newly built HTPC using VGA -> VGA @ 1368x 768, as my new LCD Tosh had VGA input and came with the cable, but after reading the that "DVI -> HDMI is the way to go", i invested £60 on the appropriate cable and didn't notice any difference when playing movies, even those @ HD res., except of course the PC display side of it was a lot worse. So currently using VGA -> VGA to get best of PC res and playing movies.

I think they must have specifically blocked that particular signed app, but you can still use Mobile Registry Editor, and I guess Resco, although I haven't tried Resco.

,Mar 13 2006, 16:50]I doubt there will be a different version release.  Some of those apps will work, others wont (kevtris is the most likely not to).  You can app unlock your handset at the SPV unlock site (see Smartphone help and Advice stickies) however it almost certainly will fail, at which point you are provided with an email address and instructions to obtain an unlock app for your specific IMEI.  Works a treat and i got a reply this morning after emailing on Friday.
*

I would guess that for what ever reason everyone will get the answer I got and guessing again what you got, and that was "Invalid IMEI", but I too got a fairly quick response to my email and receoved my "application unlocker" this morning.

Feels good to fiddle and feck again with the registry.

Was mearly stating I didn't know how to tell, and had I got a reply explaining how to test I would have quite happily done so.

I figured it out - it crashed everytime until I paired the GPS unit. I was trying to get it to work without the unit and it wouldn't work. I paired the gps unit with the phone, left the gps unit on and started the program and it worked fine.
If you need to reset tomtom to repair with a different unit or whatever, go to Storage Card>TomTom and delete Navigator.cfg.
Hope this helps anyone having problems.

I did wonder myself if that was the issue, can't remember if I set up the GPS this time before I tried TomTom.

Well order status is still at open, fired off a couple of emails to enwuire of situation.

I know it's only a day later but I tend to see online ordering as the "quick and easy" option. I would have at least expected the staus to have changed to processing maybe.

Although the stock quantity has been slowly going down I'm begining to wonder if they really do have stock, the cynic in me suggest they will wait until they get enough order to put in a bulk discount buy elsewhere.
