You sent me a PM about my watch and here is the info you requested:

Model: Heartsafe TZ
Manufacturer: Cardiosport

Here are some specification details:

-Time of Day
-10 Hour stopwatch
-Heartrate recording upto 2.5 hours
-Heart rate zone (high & low with 1 beat steps)
-Time in Heart Zone (Heart rate controlled stopwatch)
-LCD Light (helpful if you run in the dark)
-Water resistant to 20m
-Contour Lite transmitter

The low down:

This is as good as you can get without turning pro! Often you will get watches that purport to measure your heart rate but they measure it from your wrist or putting your thumb on it, these are just not as accurate. This bad boy has a seperate transmitter (which is sold with the watch) which easily straps around your chest to measure your heart rate straight from your heart.

Some reviews (Good and bad):

Review - Good
Review - 4/5
Review - Unreliable

Reviews are predominantly good although a couple I found had reliablility issues with this product. Not personally experienced those problems but its only right to let you know that others have.

Comparing it to your requirements:

-Displays the time smile.gif
-Heart rate read out is constant (assuming your heart doesn't stop beating; lol) smile.gif
-I don't remember if you can save multiple sessions :?:
-It is not able to export data to your computer or your M2000 sad.gif
-It is water resistant (to 20m) so if you fancy a swim you can still use it smile.gif

QUOTE(philgriffiths @ Apr 12 2005, 18:26)
- Something which tells me NOT what speed i am currently running but whether i need to speed up/or slow down to maintain a constant speed (like when your on a treadmill you set the speed and run to it)
*

That one has confused me a little?!? You say you don't want it to tell you your speed but whether you need to speed up or slow down. I don't know of any watches that can tell you your current speed or at least not to any degree of accuracy. The data input to the watch is your heart rate and this will not correspond directly to your speed as so many factors affect your heart rate (although I agee your speed will be one of those factors). It can tell you whether you need to exert more effort or less effort to keep within your desired heart rate 'zone'; i.e. within your upper and lower threshold. I think that is what you were getting at.

I haven't used it for some time so want to give it a thorough test before I even think about selling it; last thing I want to do is take somebodies money and send them a broken/unreliable product. I also need to remind myself of whether it is able to save multiple sessions, but as I said it cannot export the data to a computer or your M2000. From my memory it was in top condition when I used it last. My dad even used it for a while after he returned from the hospital after a heart bypass op; the doctors were delighted that he had it.

I can see that you are a MoDaCo Plus member and are clearly fairly regular on the site so if you would like I may be able to arrange sending it to you so that you can use it for a week before deciding whether to part with your hard earned.

Basically what I am saying is: There is no hard sell here, I've given you the pro's and con's as I see them and you have the opportunity to 'try before you buy'. I am passionate about running and my only hope is that you get the best HRM (Heart rate monitor) for your requirements.

Hope that helps,

Barry

I was quite a serious cross-country runner some years ago (unfortunately my knees gave up on me; sobering thought at the age of 26) and I have a watch that I used religiously, it has a heart-rate monitor, upper and lower thresholds etc...

Its really rather good.

I'm just heading off up to uni to submit my dissertation (15000 words on the admissibility of evidence obtained through torture in anti-terror trials; FUN!!!) but will look for it when I get home.

I'm assuming of course that to get a very good watch and to get it quite cheap you wouldn't be adverse to 2nd hand.

Let me know,

Alternatively pjam001,

If they are offering better deals for new customers you could ask them to downgrade you to PAYG. When your new SIM arrives (don't panic you keep your mobile number) and you register it walk into an Orange shop and ask to start a new contract. biggrin.gif

I don't know what their current policy is on this procedure. In the past there was a minimum three month period that you would need to stay on PAYG before you could return to contract (which at your current £18/mth spend wouldn't make a huge difference on your expenditure anyway).

About 18mths ago they removed that minimum period and it could all be done with one phone call to customer services followed by one visit to an Orange shop once you had registered the PAYG sim they sent out.

Its worth looking into, I can have a chat with them tomorrow and get back to you.

How does that sound?

I have been using an 0800 number for my small business for a number of months now. I had hoped to set it up so that when a call comes into the 0800 number it redirects to more than one phone so that whoever gets to their phone first can answer the csutomers call thus ensuring calls are answered quickly and there are no missed calls. We had a problem with this and I suspect Orange will have had the same problem so I am intrigued to know how they have got around it.

If two or more phones ring because they have the same number then whichever phone answers first will prevent the other phone from receving the call. That in itself is not a problem, however if the phones have voicemail set up and one of the phones is either in an area without signal or switched off then the voicemail service will kick in before the other phone rings. The result being that none of the phones will ring and anybody that phones you will always get your voicemail (if one of your phones is off or out of signal).

Any ideas?

I happen to have one of those Orange Premier pens which a client kindly gave me still in its wrapping etc. Its only a silly little thing but if anybody desperately wants it then here is how:

Buy yourself a Comic Relief Red Nose, take a photo of yourself wearing it and then post the picture on this thread. Best/Most amusing photo gets the pen.

Simple!

As I say the pen is only a small thing but you can use it with pride in the knowledge that you helped a great charitable cause by getting involved.

Quite new to the forum so not sure if video clips can be posted? If so then get creative!

Doesn't this exist already? If you have one of the newer SIMs (say a series 14 or fifteen, the blue ones) then you can set up 'group text messaging'. I can't remember how it works or is costed off-hand but I'll see if I can find out.

Yeah I upgraded last October and me 50 inclusive texts were taken away. I dint realise until just last month. Youve guessed it I never check my bill but I'a amazed that all my data doesn't roll over to the next month. Thats £18 a  month going into Oranges account not put back in my back pocket. Next month I'm buying out my Orange contract and switching to O2 PAYG with 300 free texts a month..

If I want a new phone Ill just buy it out right. My avarage bill is £80 a month so goodbye Orange  biggrin.gif/
*

So when you upgraded you continued getting the 50 inclusive texts for a number of months before they were taken off your account? I would love to know just how many people continue to use their phone in the belief that they still have the inclusive texts after the 18mth period.

It would appear to the casual observer, and of course I am not suggesting that this is Orange's intention, that Orange take a hit on the text revenue for the first 18mths so that once the customer is in the habit of sending x-amount of texts a month, and in many cases isn't aware that the free texts have been removed, they continue to do so thus earning Orange a large amount of cash.

Not in to my conspiracy theories but really feel that Orange could be a little more open in relation to this offer, hiding a warning away on the second page of a bill that the messages will no longer be inclusive doesn't seem like straight dice are being thrown.

Before you try to buy your contract out make sure you've dropped down to the lowest tariff they offer, that way you'll pay them the minimum possible amount. They used to do a £10/mth data-tariff, ask if they still offer it then change onto that tariff. If you're currently on the £15/mth tariff that should save you about £35-40 pounds :-)

Afternoon all,

My sister bought her previous phone from Orange 19mths ago on a £30/mth deal which provided her with 200 minutes of cross-network anytime minutes and 500 texts per month.

7mths ago she upgraded her phone on the understanding that she would continue on the same tariff. So you can imagine her surprise when her 7th bill arrived after her upgrade with a whopping £100 price tag attatched!

It would appear that the deal she originally agreed to provided her with 500 texts for her first 18mths with Orange. However when she upgraded her phone the person in the store assured her that it would be on the same terms as her previous contract, namely that she would continue to receive her 500 inclusive texts. So on month 19 the 500 texts she sent were charged at 10p a text, knocking her bill up by £50!!!

Has anybody else had a similar experience?

Baking Powder? Exsqueaze me?

I'm sure you guys are gonna get mighty frustrated with me soon as I am, yet again, completely lost!

I ran the ipconfig/all from the command prompt and got the attached screenshot in reply. At the time I ran it our network was set up as follows:

3 desktop PCs & 1 laptop. 2 Desktops and laptop turned on (don't know if that makes a difference). 1 desktop connected to linksys WiFi router through Linksys WiFi network card and the other connected via ethernet cable directly into the router. The laptop is also connected to the router wirelessly but using its inbuilt wireless thingummyjig. My M2000 at this time is connected to the desktop PC (the one hardwired into the router) via its USB cradle.

As you say it could be as simple (who am I kidding pretending I think this is simple) as having set up some form of encryption but I don't remember doing it?!? So that we can cut the encryption theory out of the equation could you advise me on how to go about finding out if encryption is enabled and how to find out what the password is or how to go about changing it.

Again any help would be appreciated,

Barry

Cool, from what I understand, you have two PCs at home running off the same broadband connection. Because you also didn't mention picking IPs for them, I'm assuming that your router does DHCP for you, and that is is in fact a router and not just a plain Access Point (like mine). All that is a mechanism where the IP address is chosen for you, and it just works. Nice and easy. In theory!

So, we need to figure out if this part is working. If it doesn't, nothing else will work. Download a free util called vxUtil, go to Functions/Info. Scroll down to the bottom and there should be a section for your wireless. If you can, cut & paste this section when the connection is up as best as it gets. If cutting and pasting isn't an option, just tell me the IP and the subnet, they are the most important.

It might also be helpful if you could find out the IP address of one of the PCs. It will most likely be 192.168.X.X. When all this is working, the phone should have a similar one, with the last part being different (over simplifed version!).
*

Cheers for your help on this.

IP = 169.254.251.151
Subnet = 255.255.0.0

I know this shows just how little I understand about this stuff but I don't even know how to go about finding the IP Address of one of our PCs!!!

Cheers again for your help,

Barry

Hello Leights,

While I can't give you any technical advice on how to do it or where to find the settings but...

On the Orange network it is possible to call customer services and ask them to send through 'SIM Updates' which automatically put in the settings. They arrive in the form of text messages and require you to do no more than delete the messages and then turn your phone off and on.

I don't know if that is the case with O2 but I thought I'd pass on my thoughts on the matter.

Good Luck,

Barry

Does sound like you have encryption on. You see the AP and you ca sort-of connect, but won't actually allow data to pass. If you go to the network list, select your home one and put in the key. Also check the authentication settings, most likely you aren't using any and need to switch it off on the phone.

How does your PC get an IP address? Does it get one from the WiFi router?
*

Okay Fraser now you've lost me I'm afraid

If I've figured out how to attach things to posts correctly there should be a screen shot of how my phone is currently set up within the Network Key tab. If you can give me an idea of where I've gone wrong it would be appreciated. I never entered anything in the 'Network Key' box so whatever is there must have been done by the network (I guess).

When I set up the two PCs in my house to work with the router I just installed the software and plugged the network cards into the spare slots at the back. I never entered any form of key for them. I guess, now that I think about it, that probably leaves my network open to access by anybody nearby! As you can probably tell I'm not all that hot with the technical side of things :-(

Cheers in advance for any further help.

Cheers for the reply ;-)

It (the M2000) recognises the home network and you can tell it to connect to it. However this is where it goes wrong :-(

The M2000 says that it is connecting but then it just flicks back to 'Available' instead of connected.

WiFi is generally one of my frustrations with the M2000. For example at this moment it is showing no less than five available WiFi networks. This doesn't seem so strange except for the fact that apart from my home network and one of my neighbours networks my PC can't see any of them and I know that one of them is over half a mile away and clearly not actually available! It doesn't seem to refresh very frequently and when it does it it simply lies!

Help; please!

@RussellH:

SPAM isn't an issue as I only use the email address in question as a response to targetted advertising that I do for my Mobile Phone Billing Consultancy (Tariff Scout) so when I start getting SPAM I just stop advertising with that address and start using a new one :-)

@Chaser81:

I too thought that I'd be able to find an answer really quickly, but nothing was forthcoming :-( I did search Handango but to no avail. If you, or indeed anybody else, is able to find a solution then I'd really appreciate it.

I really hope that my original theory, that the networks set the phone up this way to increase the level of GPRS charges they can make, isn't correct!!!

However I guess that its this sort of business practice that keeps me in business!

:?: Does anybody know if its possible to get software which allows you to use the phone from your desktop PC :?:

I find that its quite fiddly to use the phone when its in its cradle but don't find the voicetag dialing option functional enough. Ideally one could run some software that would show a simulated image of the phone itself on the monitor of a desktop PC so that you could effectively use all of the phones functions remotely.

Does this exist already? Is somebody developing it? Any ideas?

This is a different problem so I thought I'd put it in a different thread; well made sense to me :-)

For some reason I cannot get my M2000 to work with my home WiFi network and its slowly driving me to madness! I know that the phone works just fine as I have used it in the wireless zone in my university library with no problems. I also know that my wireless router is working as I am typing this thread on my laptop sitting in the living room with not a wire in sight!

Now I'm not exactly what you'd call a technical whizzkid so I'm gonna my hand held through this.

I have a Linksys Router but then I'm sure that won't be enough info to help you help me.

Using a POP based email account on my home PC it is possible to set it up so that once a particular email has been received by my PC it is removed from the host server. The result being that if you press 'send/receive' again only if you have been sent a new email does anything get downloaded from the server.

My problem is this: There doesn't seem to be any way of setting up my M2000 to act in the same way. When logging on using WiFi or USB to a network this isn't a major problem. However when connecting through GPRS I'll be damned if I'm paying Orange to download each and every email I've ever been sent!

Now I know that I could get around this problem by setting up my email account on my desktop pc too and simply checking the email from there thus downloading them from the server but this isn't what I want to do. I want to have a truely mobile office such that I can run my whole business from the mobile phone.

Please somebody help me solve this problem. It makes me want to
