Thanks! I'll try it!

Great tip - the app worked great! I just set all my profiles to keep the backlight on forever. I wasn't sure if it would keep it on when the keyboard was locked but it did. Everything is just how I want it now.

Thanks much!!!!

Ah, that does make a bit more sense. One thing you could try:

http://www.modaco.com/downloads.html&showfile=1640

This Tornado PowerControl looks like it would keep the backlight on for you. I used it a while ago for different things, never tried a full-time backlight though.

Thanks! I'll try it!

I honestly don't mean to sound like a smartass here, but isn't it just as effective to simply hit a key or the joystick on the phone to make the screen light back up as needed, and thereby conserving the screen life and battery power?

I don't know of a registry tweak to do this, just to make the keypad stay illuminated longer.

No worries on the question - I realize most folks would prefer longer battery power. I literally am often running to the next meeting with a laptop and other things in my hand or am typing during a meeting. I used to be able to just glance down and see the time or the next meeting time and topic with no hands needed. It sounds like a simple thing but it happens may times in the day where I need the information quickly and it's awkward to reach down and touch the phone. Plus if my next appointment has already 'dinged' but I haven't left for the meeting the reminder is still blazing away on the screen to be in my face versus me thinking about jogging the phone to make it show. Again with my schedule this is much more important to me than screen life or battery power.

This worked fine before the ROM upgrade. I wish Backlight timeout 'Never' truly meant never - I don't know why they can't use that setting for when it's locked as well. sad.gif

Need a hand. I've had my Cingular 2125 for year and a half. Lately the performance has been degrading and I was getting out of memory errors that didn't make sense so I finally upgraded to the latest ROM a couple of days ago. Everything seems to be working well and I got all my apps back on, etc. but I have one problem I need help with.

I use my phone as my watch and my appointment reminder so I've always had it setup to keep the backlight on forever including when it's locked so I can quickly see info at a glance. This means I have to recharge every night but it works great for what I want. Unfortunately after the ROM upgrade whenever I lock the keypad (hold down end key) after 5 seconds the screen blacks out. This didn't happen before the ROM upgrade. I may have changed a registry setting before but if I did I can't find any info on it now here or elsewhere.

Does anyone know what registry setting controls the backlight when the keypad is locked?

Please help as I am very frustrated now. Thanks! Julie

I just started having the same problem a few days ago with my Cingular 2125. I have been using ActiveSync 4.2 since early this year and switched to ActiveSync 4.5 Beta a month or so ago. Everything has been fine and now I get that same message Sadly got:

Unable to establish a connection between the PC and the device. Get up-to-date solutions to common connection problems. Please click the following link:
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=65257
The device appears to be disconnected. Please connect your device to the PC

I have tried changing cables, reinstalling 4.5 Beta, backing down to 4.2 and nothing has helped. I will try Dr. Who's suggestion tomorrow (my laptop is at work tonight and that's where I sync) and post if it works. I REALLY don't want to do a hard reset but would be curious if that does clear up the problem for Matt.

Thanks, Julie

There is a ROM update on the USA HTC website for the 2125. However, it will only update your Radio version (to 4.0.13.20_01.09.01). This update does take care of some issues that a few users were having with sim cards. If you are not having any issues with your sim, I would wait until the AKU2 update for Cingular is released (this will actually update the ROM, which the current update does not!).

Cingular are supposed to release the AKU2 ROM in the middle (or towards the end) of this month. It is currently going through final testing.

Thanks for the excellent info!

Does anyone know what the latest ROM version is for Cingular 2125 (US)?
I have noticed mention of some new ROMs in the forum but it seems to be for other variants. I wanted to see if there was a newer one for my phone. I'm currently at:
Operator 5.1.70.14406

The only problem I'm having is ActiveSync takes much longer than it used to with my MPX220 and I was hoping there may be a ROM upgrade soon that may improve it. Sync works just takes a long time.

Thanks, Julie

OK I just realized I looked at the wrong info. I'm currently at:
ROM 1.0.9.0
Operator: 1.8.42.14
Radio: 4.0.13.20_01.09.01

Sorry.

Wow! Thanks for the info. It sounds like you use your phone in alot of the same ways I do although I've used a few different programs. I have loved the 220 but been frustrated at the same time since it's so close to what I want. I also have the middle-aged eyes problem so look forward to clearer visibility.

If I wait two more weeks I am able to purchase 2125 as an upgrade at Cingular which I think saves me $100 including the rebate. So I am definitely going to purchase as soon as I'm eligible. My hubby has gotten freaked over how often I buy new phones but he finally admitted how hard I work mine and has given me free reign to purchase when I need to.

Thanks for listing your apps - that's really helpful since you have biz use too and you listed a few I haven't tried. I use a white noise generator at home so I'll definitely try Tranquilizer for travel. I just recently got homescreen to give me a better screen layout but I'll try facade instead. I've had decent luck with pharos traffic but thought I would try Traffic Edge. I downloaded the trial of Edge and while the map was ok I could never get the photo shots of any of the intersections to work - I always got unavailable. Of course after recent downloads of Edge, homescreen, and a trial of opera I now get notice that I'm out of memory for running apps - so the improved memory on 2125 will also be appreciated.

Thanks much for the detailed info and testimonial!!

Thanks for the reply.
I agree with you on the smartphone in a RAZR body!!

Apps I use: phat notes, oxio todo list, pharos traffic, lextionary, sprite backup, Airscanner AV, battery pack pro, ClearVue documents

I guess I just need to check all their web sites - I wonder if they do an upgrade or if I just have to repurchase...

By the way Cingular/Motorola refused to replace my phone even though the it's been less than a year and the power button is breaking. They 'gave' me the option to buy a new one - gee thanks!

Thanks for the response! I like the speed and coverage comments. I wasn't that impressed with the 220's battery life so I'll have to see if it's a problem on the 2125. It seems like a few folks have had some startup problems with the 2125 (not unlike the mpx 220) with freezes.
Anyone know if there is a rom upgrade planned for some initial fixes?
Also is there a rough guess on the imate flip phone version release date?
Also are the biz apps available on WM5 or are they lagging?
Thanks!

Has anyone used both the Motorola MPX220 and the Cingular (HTC Faraday) 2125? I currently have the MPX220 but the power button is breaking and I think they will replace it with the Cingular 2125. Despite a few startup problems with the 220 I now have it just how I want it and it works great for my needs - mostly Outlook/tasks/notes sync, meeting reminders, good phone, bluetooth and occasional Internet exploring (all in a small package). This was also my first flip phone which I now prefer but I can probably get used to going back to non flip.

If anyone has used both - how does the 2125 compare? Also do enough of the good apps come in Win Mobile 5 yet?

Thanks for any thoughts or advice.

Thanks for your help. It sounds like this has worked for a few people. I tried all your suggestions as well as a couple of others I saw on the Derrick site and am still getting the same warning message towards the end of update 1.
Arggh!...so close and yet so far

I guess I will have to wait for Motorola to repond to my request for help but no answer so far.

I did find reference to an offline method. This sounds more complex. Does anyone suggest I try that or if I'm unable to get the easy online one working should I pass? I'm really not an idiot and followed instructions closely but don't know what I should do next.

Anyone? Thanks! Julie

I was able to download the update application today.

Unfortunately after trying 4 times I couldn't get it installed! I have an email into Motorola support but was curious if anyone else had problems.

I kept getting the following message towards the end of the update 1 install:

Motorola MPx220 Sytem Update Warning!
The time taken to apply the System Update to your MPx220 device has exceeded expected limits. Check the information in the 'Details' box. If it appears to be updating, then it is likely that everything is OK and you can dismiss this warning message. However if the information remains static (typically reading 'start flash loader downloading...'), then it is likely that the update has failed in which case you should dismiss this warning message and cancel the System Update application.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Julie

Well, it took me eight tries, but got it. Thanks for this tip. PHM doesn't bounce back anymore, or at least it takes a longer time.

Worked for me too - no bounce backs - many thanks!!

I was able to install PHM registry editor with the instructions here. I have also used it to change some values but it acts really weird. It will bounce back to the Home Screen in the middle of clicking down through the levels. It took me ten tries to change a setting - I had to do everything quickly with no pauses and then it took.

Has anyone else seen this problem? Am I doing something wrong? or should I reinstall? Is this because the editor is written for smartphone 2002 and I have 2003?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Julie

I recently read some info on the battery charging of the MPX 220 - probably was somewhere on Modaco. It said that it purposely shuts down the charging so it doesn't overheat. Then it will periodically top it off again if its still plugged in. I don't remember where or more details than this but that's why it seems to shut off the charging and come back on later.

The USB connection does also charge the phone (although at least one person claims it drains their phone).

Hi, I haven't used forums much so please bear with me if I make protocol mistakes. I did a search on my topic first but don't see anything.

I love the MPX 220 after a week and am just starting to realize how customizable it is. Got lots of great info from this forum already on that including the timeout for the external display.

What I want to know is there anyway to program the External Display? This is my first flip phone. Current info shown is fine but I expected that when a reminder popped that the External Display would at least show the title. Without that I need to open the phone to see what the meeting, task, etc. is for.

Is there anyway to program/change what is shown on the External Display?

Thanks in advance - any help would be greatly appreciated. Julie
