Further update. I had to empty the entire SMS account to restore the performance back to the norm. So the recovery process failed. So back to an EMPTY SMS folder. At least its not threaded now :-) Will stick with 6.1 for the moment, but if anyone knows of a link to revert back to 6.0, would be interested just in case I have to. Thanks, Simon |

Ok just to add feedback. The PIM restore worked, and I see all the messages, however slowdown has occurred. This time, I am going to delete 8 months worth of SMS records, to see if this is the degrade in performance. If not, then a total hard reset will be needed, and I will have to give up on the PIMBackup/Restore process. Must be a 6.1 thing ! I think I may need to go back to 6.0 though. Anyone have a link or process that I can follow? |

Jim That was the point of the topic - using a reg editor to look for something. Cheers for the key. Not an XDA developer member, so suspect downloads are not permitted if it is forum based like Modaco. At least it looks like I am on the right tracks then.... |

Care to share please? I have gone through the file files under windows, and could not see anything, so my next thought was a reg hack. I also know some iPhone users have complained of similar feelings and problems, especially if they get too long. Thanks, Simon |

Hi all, Posted a topic early in the week about problems I had with the 6.1 upgrade and restoring the PIM database. This week, after having over 600 SMS messages, I am now finding the performance of the SMS threading awful. For example, when typing, the speed is dreadful. In most cases, the keyboard does not respond, or words / letters are completely missed out. I have disabled the option to auto complete my words for all applications, but its not helped. I want to investigate the registry further, and see if there is a way to disable this feature. For me, its just not working out. If I can find a way to disable this feature, I will then try to restore my PIM and see if this works. So, firstly, anyone know of a good FREE Registry hack tool I could use? Resco Explorer looks ok, but at a price. Shame there isnt one built in really ! Thanks Simon |

Iphone users can download Iphone 2.0 software free of charge so he can download the apps etc without a new contract... The fact that he could get a free iphone 3g if he did sign up for a new contract would sway it for me - especially as he could sell his iphone 1 on ebay. correct, as stated above, the iPhone was locked. Now its not (v2 free to original and default 2.0 on 3G phones), its not a problem now. Yes, you could sell it, not sure you would get much for it now. One would guess you can buy a 3G model sim free or perhaps unlocked well by now. (not looked yet as eBay blocked here). End of the day, each to their own.... we all have a preferance, otherwise there would not be such a large market for a wide audience. |

It's a shame WM6, like previous versions, needs so many tweaks and 3rd party software to make it usable I remember getting WM2003 on my iPaq and thinking, wow this is pretty damn bare. Then I spent a small fortune buying software for it! I think a lot of it is down to the operating system and down to how good the software different manufacturers create support the main operating system. BANG ON! You need to use 3rd party apps to make things "better". Like you my ipaq was, and still is very much usable !! Its great for the kids and they love it! But paying OTT for the software was a bit of a mistake, so I try and keep things as clean and simple as possible. TYTN II HTC branded home screen is ok, and I have only installed a small amount of apps to help run my business. I am not into music or videos in any big way. But if I want a tune, I can use 3G and listen to radio over the net. And that works well for me. Remember, the iPhone was "locked"... its only recently that developers have the potential to create their own custom apps / open source programs. Good thing for iPhone users Maybe not so good for people tied to an 18 months contract looking for a change |

Hey, nobody's suggesting that WM isn't a shite GUI. MS seriously need to catch up (although Android may get there first). I won't be moving to iPhone until they support cut'n'paste and have a proper keyboard. So, erm, never, then. Maybe WM7 may help improve things, but I do agree, MS definetely need to play catch up big time! Especially with the RIM, not just the iPhone. To me, iPhone is more of a gimmick. We have someone with one in the office, who queued up like a moran to get it.... and now the 3G version is out, he is tied to it! He can of course change, but gets tied again to a NEW 18 month contract, and now feels ripped off! Each phone has its own functionaility and potential. Each to their own personal taste |

I'm regretting getting an 18-month contract, but I dont consider the tytn ii old just yet - it still compares very well to the new devices, the only difference between it and the raphael (its replacement) that i can see is touchflo, a slightly faster processor, and the vga screen. I won't start to consider the tytn ii as even starting to age until at least the raphael comes out, but I imagine around january (12 months into my contract) I may be ebaying around for a raphael... If you want to breathe some more life into the tytn, I would highly reccomend a hard reset and starting again with all the programs you install - this does make a big difference in how the software feels (speed, responsiveness, etc.), and gives you a chance to upgrade everything at the same time. Again, not tied to a contract frees me to do what I like. Yes, you may pay more, but whats the cost of the contract? Plus my provider does DATA usage unlimited and 1000 mins / 1000 text for £49.99! Cannot complain. Agree that breathing new life into the TYTN would be a hard reset, or even better WM6.1 plus apps reinstalls or latest updates may help. |

When I got my Kaiser I felt it was the most state of the art phone available. It was bang up to date, packed with technology and gadgets and even looked pretty cool! Is it just me or since the release of all these new HTC Touch handsets (diamond in particular) and the Apple iPhone 2.0 the Kaiser is suddenly out of date, nasty looking, clumsy, bulky and slow in comparison? I'm stuck on an 18 month contract with a Vario III and I'm absolutely gutted. The only thing the Kaiser has over any of these is the slide out keyboard, and that is a flop in my opinion. Dodgey keys sometimes, awkward to use etc. I prefer using the ZoomBoard on screen most of the time! Only another 10 months to wait till I upgrade!!! Yippee!!! Should have gone SIM FREE. I got the TYTN II from the Modoco / Expansys offer pack, and do not regret it. I think it was around late September it arrived, and even now, its heavily used. In fact, I upgraded to 6.1, and bar a few issues with SMS, it still works well. For the fact of having GPS/TomTom was a bonus, and the Wireless connectivity. For Remote Desktop, its great, and replaced my old Sony Laptop already. not sure I agree with the comments about out of date, nasty, clumsy and bulkty. Compare to my old XDA EXEC, yes 100% agree! But comparing against a new "moderm" phone, like the iPhone, then its no real comparison. But you spend your money, and make your choice. I chose NOT to go contract route.... dont regret it one bit. LOL. So the iPhone is released with 3G, SatNav, and a couple of other improvements, i.e., bringing it up to a par with the 12-month-old Kaiser, and suddenly it feels old? Err.... dont believe the iPhone is SatNav yet.... Googlemaps works with the GPS. Reading a booklet, makes no mention of SatNav, unless a manufacturer is going to allow one to be used on the iPhone or a developer? Please correct me if I am wrong. I for one had the TYTN II SIM FREE from HTC. Do I regret it? not at all! For me , its a business tool, and does everything I want, including Tom Tom ! |

Have to concur with Jim there - why do you want to keep so many on your phone? I like to keep mine but archive them off to the PC (not that I do many now). Guys, I have never had a performance issue with the SMS messages. In fact, the only reason I realised I had so many was due to the installation of the FLEXLM software, which was causing severe delays. Yet, if I use the built in pocket outlook / sms tool, it was flawless - 100% trouble free, with absolutely no delays. I did post this question on the forum (cannot remember the thread), and questions were asked about so many, but hey... it worked for me. And never, ever caused a problem. Apart from the use of FLEXLM, which I decided to uninstall and revert back to the basic tool. Jim, try it So, unless I revert back, not much else I can really do. why do I want to keep so many on the phone...... business reasons, and believe me, it was extremely useful in many, many ways. The SMS threading has already grown to over 100 for just one person, and that is in the space of 35 hours. Not that I send that many text messages you understand. I guess I can live without it, but shame the tool let me know |

You can set that behaviour with any of the advanced config cabs or with a registry tweak. As above though, if you dont get a notification, then it means it has been sent. 99.9999999% of Winmo users switch notifications off as its the most annoying thing. .1% disagrees |

I think you can enable/disable the message sent dialog in the registry - check in the Wiki for the instructiosn. TBH, i don't see the point in this message anyway, it only means the message has got to the networks, it doesn't mean it's been received - delivery receipts are more useful. Wiki?? Sorry for being ignorant! Not sure what you mean. Delivery are useful, but you cannot select them and mark as unread. You have to go into the mesage to stop it being highlighted as a new message. |

Hello 2nd post of the day. SMS after the 6.1 upgrade is not behaving as I would have liked. Previously, when you sent an SMS, you got a pop-up advising you that the "message was sent". Now, with 6.1, you get jack all Even worse, when people did sent test SMS messages to my phone, they would get a message indicating it could not be delivered or delivery failed, yet the WM6.1 device got the sms message! Very odd! I have enabled DELIVERY RECEIPT for all SMS messages, and that works,.... but its annoying that I cannot mark it as unread Is this a feature? |

Hi the threaded part did seem to work, and do the job, but I guess there is an underlying factor overlooked. I take it, there is no way to go back to 6.0 now? |

Morning Got a TYTN II that I flashed to 6.1 HTC ROM form their official site. Install took 8 mins, no problems reported and all clean. First thing I done, was used the tool called "PPCPimBackup" to restore the PIM details. Actually, I was only interested in the SMS messages as I had 2,500 in the inbox and just under 2,300 sent items. Anyhow, done the restore, took approx 20 mins and completed. When to do a soft reset, and that is what I noticed the device becoming unstable.... locking up... unusable. So I done a hard reset, still at 6.1 and carried on installing some apps (remote desktop, batti, Air Guitar), and then attempted another restore again. Sadly, same problem.... locks up! Hard Reset again, installed ALL apps I need, and not done a restore of the PIM yet. I am going to do a backup using SPRITE Backup, that originally came with the TYTN II WM6.0. I can only assume this version of sprite backup will work? anyone confirm? Importantly, anyone know why a backup of the PIM that was on 6.0 is causing some headaches going back to 6.1? little gutted, because there are some important SMS messages in this backup. Any help is truly appreciated. Thanks, Simon |

Anyone using it on a TYTN II ? So far, I think I prefer the "mini" browsing experience to this. Only been to eBay - text small as hell ... zooming in was ok, but does not seem as smooth as the Opera Mini. Has anyone adjusted any settings or features? |
