I've installed the latest from Orange and it report build 4.21 so it looks like you already have the same version. I didn't have to network unlock after updating

Ok cool, thanks. I wonder what this August release update is about then?

Many thanks!

Now i'll try to find out the "how to" walktrough (a "step by step" one because i actually don't know anything about CID, BootLoader and so on).

On the orange site it says the benefits of the new update are WM10, but I have that already (I've got V4.21). Does this mean that the Orange site doesn't actually have the latest version on there yet? If this is the case, is this new version not official?

Also, will I have to network and app unlock my phone again if I upgrade?

But is it worth upgrading? Pls can someone point me towards the benefits of the update? Many thanks in advance...

cheers smile.gif

I’ve currently got an spvc500 but my friend who has the QTEK equivalent of the I-mate Jam has just got himself a new phone so I was going to buy his QTEK.

However, I think I’ve come across a problem with the audio Jack.

He couldn’t find the headphones that come with the phone, but I have my SPV ones which I assumed would be fine, being 2.5mm and having the correct amount of contacts. I also use a 2.5 to 3.5 mm adapter for playing mp3s in the bathroom which despite having less contacts than the headphones works perfectly too.

The problem is that contact between the plug and socket isn’t very good on the QTEK, and certainly not good enough if the phone was in my pocket – it keeps loosing one of the channels.

So, my question is – do you think the socket is faulty, or is it because I’m not using the original headphones? I’ve read about contact problems with SPVs but mine has always been ok with 3rd party adapters.

Many thanks in advance for any comments. smile.gif

I don't think it's down to the settings either. I was using my blueyonder email perfectly on my spv-c500 until it went into repair, and now, with the same settings I get the invalid recipient message. I'm on Vigrin mobile and was using the blueyonder SMTP address sucessfully before.

I've tried the virgin SMTP address as suggested in this thread but got the same problem. (smpt.virgin.net)

Think I may try the soft reset and re enter all the details. smile.gif

Fixed it. Used the blueyonder smtp but said it needed authentication with a different user name and password - but then just entered the same details as for the incoming server. Weird, but works! smile.gif

I've had the same problem several times on various pocket pcs. I found that deleting all mail accounts, soft-resetting the device and creating again the mail accounts (using the same details as entered initially) solved the problem.

Don't know what its down to, it is not down to the settings used.

well... they use RAM memory. so the phone has to do some more calculations for theses apps. so its battery life is consuming i assume... i always kill all apps in background (except appman.exe (as it is for start menu)) and in my imate rom of my c600 it shows (under sp task manager) up to 52% of free memory RAM (about 26MO)

I see. Suppose it doesn't do any harm to kill the apps if I'm not using them then. smile.gif

Sometimes, after using WMP where it's still open in the background but not playing, I've noticed that the battery goes flat quite quickly.

Does having applications open in the background use more battery? i.e. should I be using task manager to kill apps after I use them?

Thanks biggrin.gif

Is there anything I can do to boost the volume of the speaker phone? e.g any mods or apps? The speaker is capable of going fairly loud, but for some reason, on hands free its quite quiet.

Any suggestions appreciated biggrin.gif

As per topic really, it seems like a waste of battery for the backlight to come one everytime WMP or Beta player goes to the next track. Are there any known fixes for this?

Suggestions appreciated biggrin.gif

I use one I bought from Radioshack, cost about £2, but seem them in Maplin, no lead just a straight plugin adaptor.

Thats the one I bought first - worked fine but was slightly concerned that the length might put stress on the socket, so I've bought the one in my previous post now which is perfect. smile.gif

Do you know anything more about the 30p thing? I've done a google search and can't find any reference to it, and the same on the Virgin website.

Yes, you do have to be carfuly not to break the connectors, thats why you should slide the credit card up the right side of the phone. Once thats dissconected I found the other side (which has the connecting ribbon) easy to get off - as far as I remember I just opened the facia like a door and the other side popped off.

QUOTE(matt14 @ Feb 10 2006, 12:19)
I'm about to have a go at this and, looking through these instructions, one step 'frightens' me a little. Is it easy to separate the front fascia (black) from the body of the phone (silver) once all the necessary screws have been removed?

I'm intending to replace the fascia with one I've got hold of, and there appear to be lots of metal tabs attached to black fascia which, I guess, engage with the silver body.  How exactly do I lever/pull the fascia/body apart without causing any damage.

Can anyone advise. Thanks , Matt

Get a credit card, and stick the corner of the card in-between the facia and phone on the bottom right hand corner of the device.

Then, simply slide the card up the side of the phone and the facia will come off from that side. Once off, the other side comes off easily by just gently pulling. smile.gif

You can also request the Security Certificate Disabling Tool to be sent to you from Orange developers at developers@orange.com . That way you can app unlock the phone when ever you want, and without having to use the net.

Provide them with the IMEI number exactly as it is displayed on the
screen when you type *#06# in your phone, your full name, network country, Orange phone number and Orange handset model.

Its free of charge. smile.gif

PS, I'm new to all this so if anything above is wrong then please feel free to correct me.

Its still under waratnee so if I get a bill I'll be quite annoyed. Having said that, maybe I should mention something in case they try and charge me for a new keypad (maybe button paint will be considered wear and tear). :?:

Took my phone into their repair centre today for number of faults

-when turn on, just get white screen
-green button not working
-button paint coming off
-Forgot to mention the dust but hopefully they will make the relevant mods to stop i dust, if such a mod actually exists.

I just wondered if anyone has any experience on how effecient these guys are in sending off phones and getting them back quickly? I was quoted 10 days, the Orange shop were quoting much longer than that.
