I tried to do it myself and it didn't work either, I'll try the patch later. However, is there a way for the text input method to stop appearing when you're in a text box? I was on MSN last night and the keypad on the screen kept coming up, so I slid the keypad in/out and it went away, so when I finished writing a message i would slide in the keypad but that's realllllllllly annoying when you're trying to be quick sad.gif

Have you tried deleting the partnership in active sync on both your pc and phone? I haven't had this exact trouble before, but sometimes a certain item wouldn't sync so creating a new profile generally works, refreshes everything smile.gif

You can also use the contacts screen in the touchflo menu smile.gif It's become invaluable for me, the way that the touchflo is used in menus and on the home screen is great smile.gif Apple should come up with more cool stuff more often.

Well there's your first problem really. Any PPC camera flash I've come across is pretty lousy.

By 'icons' you are referring to LNKs (Start Menu shortcut) ? You can do it via XML setup file. Below code will delete 'Pocket MSN.lnk':

CODE
<wap-provisioningdoc>
<characteristic type="FileOperation">
<characteristic type="%CE2%\Start Menu\Programs\Pocket MSN.lnk"
translation="install">
<characteristic type="Delete">
<parm name="ForceDelete"/>
</characteristic>
</characteristic>
</characteristic>
</wap-provisioningdoc>

I think OP was talking about removing the icons from the Settings menu, and I just had a look in the Settings folder in Windows\Start Menu\ and it's empty. Going by the way it uses tabs, would it be an application?

Another thing I was just thinking about... When using the volume button and holding it up/down, perhaps there could be a cut off of some sort? Say, once it's full volume, it no longer registers if the volume button is being held in. You can push it up as often as you like, but no matter how hard you try to hold it, it doesn't go BEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEP. I know I've bumped it a couple of times, and actually on my old KJAM, the toggle switch used to be a bit sticky and would often stay in the up/down position and would either keep beeping or turn the volume right off.

One that that's always annoyed me with Windows Mobile and how it treats sms tones is the fact that if you have a relatively long SMS tone, it plays its all the way to the end even though you've probably already read and replied to the txt message. Nokia phones have done it forever, whereas you can have a long tone in case you don't hear the short quick "message alert" tones. But, without changing tones, you could also have a quick SMS conversation because when you hit View, it would cut the noise off.

What I really don't get though, is the fact that the alarm acts this way, so how hard would it be to adapt the code for SMS notifications? Perhaps have it hidden when its received, and when you hit the left soft key "View SMS", it pops the little window up with the message, and if it's longer than the bubble, View SMS would turn into View All.

Any other suggestions?

Cheers.

Hi, ever since the time change on Sunday morning, my Touch Dual has repeatedly been setting itself to GMT+1 (Prague etc etc) despite repeated attempts to set it to GMT and manually adjusting the time.

What's the problem you might ask ... well, it mucks up my diary!!! When it changes it resets all the times of meetings to -1hr before their scheduled time.
mad.gif

Anyone else experiencing this???? Or, better still, a permanent fix!!

Many thanks, M.

I appear to be having the same issue, well, except for the fact it doesn't really matter to me now that DST is off, but it keeps setting my region to Sydney instead of Brisbane. Both GMT+10, but Sydney is affected by DST whereas Brisbane is not, and during DST it creates some issues... Otherwise it's all the same.

On the same topic though, SOMEHOW this morning my alarm was set 3 times some how. The same alarm at the same time, and it created like an echo effect and I had to hit dismiss 3 times (1/3, 2/3 and 3/3). Lucky my alarm is turned off for Saturday otherwise I'd be up in an hour ;x

there was the same on my Samsung SGH-i320. I found somewhere the hint to visit the registry and somehow tell the phone not to use a sound. I'm sorry for not being more specific but I just can't remember where I found it or how it worked. It's some time ago.

Ahhh, smart thinking. It'll have to be under something generic in there, I'll have a look through it this weekend when I get around to installing some software onto it smile.gif Cheers for the idea.

I think it's probably a local legal requirement that you can't turn off the shutter sound - I've read about that somewhere else. Probably the only way to get round it is to flash a different ROM onto it, thereby voiding your warranty and with all the usual risks....

Fair dinkum? That'd make sense. Hmmm, I hope it isn't attached to the button directly, as I still haven't tried it with different software yet, but when I get around to it I'll post and tell how it goes smile.gif

Thanks for the reply, but unfortunately, I definitely do not have anything in my settings. In the second tab (Advanced) in my camera settings I have the following options in the following order:

Capture Format (JPEG)
Shoot Option (Full Press)
Grid (Off)
Keep Backlight (On)
Review Duration (10 Seconds)
Flicker Adjustment (Auto)
Preix (Default)
Counter (75)
Image Properties
Help
About

For some reason I don't have the option. It's a HTC Touch Dual P5somethingarather, you know the one, with the two press qwerty style keyboard. It's a Telstra rebranded phone so perhaps its a setting on their behalf? Time for a hard reset I think! Not purely for the noise, but I think it's just getting towards that time smile.gif

Ah well, cheers anyway. I'll just use CoolCamera or something similar instead if it works smile.gif

EDIT: Also, I just remembered. The perfect example of how inconvenient and loud it is, is that I was taking some photos of my dog in the back yard this afternoon and my next door neighbour came out of their house wondering what the "drilling" (focus) noise was.

Every now and then (I've now noticed after a sync), my clock will decide to set itself from +10 Brisbane to +10 Sydney, which normally wouldn't mean much, except that they are in two different states. For those outside of AU, Sydney being in NSW is effected by DST, whereas QLD (Brisbane) is not. Every now and then I'll start stressing and think I spaced out completely and it's an hour later than what it really is. Imagine how stupid I would have looked if I went to work an hour early? It almost happened, but I slept in anyway. Anyway, I just synced it again and checked the clock settings and so far it's still Brisbane, so I'm going to wait until I unsync it and will check back in half an hour or so.

Gotta agree. Used to have a Wizard, and that thing died on my too many times. Had the Niki for a while and it seems awesome -- apart from the smudgey fingers, but a quick wipe with the inside of my shirt fixes that smile.gif The slider thing is normal, you can't expect it to not slip slightly, but in no way does it effect the running of the phone.

Cheers Confucious, but unfortunately I don't have the spanner icon, and I've checked all through the settings and I can't find a thing. The reason I think it's deliberate is because even on vibrate/off, it's still loud sad.gif

All jokes aside, it's a pain in the ass when I want to take a photo in a relatively quiet enivornment and I have a shutter that's loud enough to wake my dad (he's a heavy sleeper!). I figured it's obviously to take away from people taking candid photos without the person knowing, but still, when I want to take a photo at night or even one of myself or with a friend, it's just too loud. Fair enough if I was in the mosh at a concert but even then it might put the singer off.

Point is, is there any way to at the least turn it down (even when it's on silent, it's no different) or better yet, get rid of it all together? Otherwise I'll never ride public transport ever again.

The end.

Hey all, back around for a little while. I've noticed on the bottom of my touch dual that the little rubber bit that covers up the USB port doesn't fit back in properly anymore, always has one corner sticking out. I think its warped/bent by having the charger plugged in and it kind of bends around it. Is it worth just getting a silicone case?

Cheers

Worth a try if you have nothing to lose (texts apps etc) strange that you have a t-mob build and no locking feature and cdrider does.

CD am i pointing oddjob to the right place for the lock option...?

I have the HTC Touch Dual 850 and it's not an option in mine, either. You can set the hang up key to do the same thing, which I've done. Check it out in Settings \ System \ Long Press End Key.

Damn it! First I buy a KJAM and that died on me 3 times, and now I buy a touch dual and I'm hearing negative stories about it too sad.gif I like mine so far, and the gap is fine -- at least it isn't too tight and pushing in buttons without you wanting it to!
