Try the SwiftBlade V7 ROM. Stable as a rock and very quick. As for radio, 1.25.0.5 is considered the best one, although 1.25.0.7 is also good - they're both significantly better than the stock radio on the MDA4 anyway. As has been said, persevere with xda-developers... there are plenty of guides there on how to flash, including the all important HardSPL. |

I returned my due to poor battery life, no other reason. Had to charge it every night with moderate usage. Have since spoke n to T-Mobile and they claim to have fixed heat problem which was affecting battery life. Tempted to get one again, but waiting to see how much Vario IV is on upgrade. But also heard battery life not so good on that either. What T-Mobile 'claim' to have done and what they have actually done are two wildly different things... The new Compact IV's still get very hot, like all the other ones do. |

We've just had a fresh batch of Compact IV's delivered to work, and the one I'm playing with is getting very hot, so tempted to say that T-Mobile might, just might, have been talking shite. Again. |

I have just sent this to HTC: "This is a general enquiry regarding the issue of disappearing audio on the HTC Tytn II and, more recently, the Touch Diamond. I am aware of a number of users of these devices who have experienced an issue where, for no apparent reason, all sound from their device ceases to be played, which results in calls being missed. A number of my managers have experienced this with the T-Mobile MDA Compact IV, that I believe is based on the HTC Victor model (that is akin to the Diamond). I have experienced this first hand on a Tytn II and am aware of other users via the xda-developers forum, who have seen this issue, using the original ROM that is installed on the device, whether it be an HTC supplied, sim free device, or an operator supplied, branded device. Therefore, I wish to know if HTC are aware of this as an issue? I feel that you must as it is not limited to one device but at least 2 models. I have endeavoured to find out if this issue affects any other, non-HTC, Windows Mobile device but so far have not found any information to support this. We, in my company, have had a number of T-Mobile branded devices exchanged due to this issue, but the level of support from an operator is not sufficient to get to the root cause of the problem. One of our managers, for instance, has had 4 handsets that have displayed this problem. No third party software has been installed, nor has any bluetooth hands free device been used. I would appreciate it if this issue could be followed up. I would be more than happy to act as a liaison with the wider user community who have experienced this issue, in order to report what HTC have found. I understand that it would be usual for support requests to be made for a specific issue affecting a single handset, but this issue is more widespread than that. I should point out that I have not experienced it on my own Touch Diamond and I am very happy with it - I am aware though that there are a growing number of people being affected by this and it will soon have an adverse effect on the reputation of HTC if something is not seen to be done. Many thanks in advance for your help in this matter." |

Well, the big question to answer is, does it have a newer ROM? |

cheers for the replies. will get him to check the program memory. I have not seen the issue on his Compact, but did on his V3, and it was making no sound regardless of the volume setting. |

Has anyone had a problem with their Compact IV losing all sound? Our managers have been provided with MDA Compact IV's, running the standard T-Mobile ROM and one of them is seeing this issue. I have not had this issue on my Touch Diamond, but I have an upgraded ROM/radio. It is worth noting that prior to the Compact IV, the same manager had the same problem with 3(!) Mda Vario III's - can anyone think of something a person might do to make this happen? The actual symptoms are that ALL system sounds are lost, and will come back at some point, but a soft reset will always re-instate them. The user is not using a BT handsfree device. He is missing lots of important calls as a result of this, but I cannot replicate the problem on my device so I do believe it is something he is doing specifically, so if anyone has any pointers that might pin it down, it would be appreciated! Thanks. |

2. Yes it does and I believe it can be overridden - check out the Diamond section in the xda-developers.com forum and look for the Advanced Config tool. 3. There are better radio's about - again, check out xda-developers, in the Diamond ROM section for more info - 1.00.25.07 is available and what I am using and its pretty good for reception/battery life, etc. |

I think the Diamond extended battery (1800mAh) adds 8mm to the depth. Not sure about MDA though. http://www.tracyandmatt.co.uk/blogs/index....ended_battery_1 But thats a different battery, which is a lot thicker! According to Paul, HTC claim that the Diamond will still fit in its pouch with the extended battery. Go to the page below and see EXACTLY how much bigger the Compact will be with the extended battery, as it is being sold with the bigger battery in US/Canada (maybe cos they have bigger pockets or something??!) http://promo.telusmobility.com/smartphones...uctStateDIAMOND |

Are the stock ones that come with the phone really sticky? if you "pull it off" would it not pull up on the touchscreen membrane/surface? I dont know if they are fragile enough to be at risk..? No it wouldn't. And agreed with earlier post, Martin Fields screen protectors are excellent! |

You can already by 3rd party docks on ebay that come with a slot for a second battery AND a second battery for about 15 - 20 quid. Aka you get the dock, the battery charger, and the spare battery. Be careful with these as I got one and although it does charge the spare battery, when I tried the spare in the phone, it worked, but would not show its charge level (in the power settings screen it was showing as 'unknown'). Seller (gpsforless) sent a replacement but that did exactly the same thing, so they refunded me the battery portion of the sale (kudos to them for doing so!). Desktop charger itself works fine, so will use it for an official spare battery or the official extended one when that comes out. |

I think the idea of having 2 is that when one breaks (and it will!), you have a spare! |

News just in... Mercedes Benz have decided not to sell any more cars to customers. A spokesman for Mercedez Benz said "Its just not fair! We spend millions developing our models and they are the most technologically advanced production cars in the world and other manufacturers just come along and copy our ideas and make money out of it. "For example we were the first people to launch anti-lock brakes on our S Class a few years ago - this safety invention massively decreased the numbers of deaths and serious injuries amongst wealthy people, then companies like General Motors and Ford came along and blatantly copied our idea. Now poor people are protected by anti-lock brakes too! "Its just not on. We are going to lock up all our expensive cars we havent sold yet, in our expensive state of the art factories and we are going to go home and sulk" LMAO! It is a pathetic reponse from imei-check - tha vast majority of people who buy a sim locked phone (kaiser or not) won't be bothered about unlocking it at all - of those that do, the vast majority will have no idea that sites such as xda-developers exist, where there is a community of very clever and helpful people who will help them unlock their device - they will therefore either go the route of the mobile provider (who may or may not do it) or use a service like imei-check, which tends to be more publicly known. If, therefore, imei-check choose to not offer the service because they feel aggrieved over someone allegedly stealing their code (although how someone can steal something that was not yours to begin with is beyond me), then they force the person looking to unlock their SIM down an alternate path - if they're lucky they will end up at xda-developers where hopefully a solution will become available. All imei-check do by reacting in this way is close a revenue stream - well done! |
