Great development, but if I understood the above correctly a developer can only sell 250 to 1000 applications and then has to buy a new deployment pack for a freeware developer (like myself) that is just not feasible... way to expensive... also.. Pro version E459 : 250 = 1.83 per deployment Premium E3299 : 1000 = 3.29 per deployment, granted it has phone support... but i wouldn't be surprised if that would offset each other a difference of 1460 euro, thats a lot of call time. Nah, I'll stick to Windows Mobile, maybe the Symbian users will come to their senses You have a basic single device version for €99. The Pro includes 250 deployments (single developer) and minor (1.x) version updates. €1 per device after that. Premium includes 1000 deployments (site license) and all updates . €1 per device after that. Based on that pricing, once you have 8 developers, it's cheaper to get the Premium site license. |

I connect my Kaiser to my work PC to sync my meetings so I don't forget where I'm supposed to be. However, my work LAN is locked down so I can't sync my device email across the LAN. I'd like to have it so that my device will connect to the 'net over GPRS whilst it's connected, so it still gets email updates every 30 minutes while connected. But it doesn't work - it gives a connection failure and only downloads email if I specifically disconnect from the USB cable and then hit send/receive. I have the "Allow wireless connection on the device when connected to the desktop" option checked in Activesync, but it appears to make no difference. It's really annoying to have to periodically disconnect my device to see if I have any email. Any ideas? This is a security feature to avoid the possibility of introducing back doors into corporate networks. When connected via USB, all other network interfaces are disabled. For example, without this, had your IT department allowed your device to get full LAN access via ActiveSync, then you could also have WiFi running, providing an unsecured access point straight into your corporate network. Similar for GPRS. This causes a real problem with debugging Windows Mobile applications which make use of WiFi or GPRS - connecting via USB to enable debugging disables the very interfaces you want to debug! There are ways around it for debugging (eg. not doing USB but doing it over WiFi - but that's another story: http://blogs.msdn.com/windowsmobile/archiv...22/420884.aspx). |

Is the version you get with Modaco Plus a lifetime license too - exactly the same as if purchased separately? I know in the past it hasn't been the case for Opera Mobile (when changing handsets it required a new code, but as Modaco supplied Opera Mobile, Opera themselves wouldn't issue a new code, and Modaco wouldn't issue a new code unless you had a current Modaco Plus subscription). In that case, it would have been better (for me, who didn't renew) to have bought Opera Mobile outright from Opera, than getting the 'free' version from Modaco - so want to make sure what the situation is with CameraAware. |

On a number of occasions I've had my Vario III + TomTom state I was going > 600mph (usually somewhere around Scotland, and over water). Seeing as at the time I was driving around Surrey abiding by the speed limits, it is a bit odd. A reboot of the phone usually fixes it. |

THis is slowly doin' my head in! I cannot get past the captcha test to create an account! It just keeps telling me that I entered the characters incorrectly. I must be on my 10th attempt by now! I had the same (along with my posting errors here), with a very long wait before it gave the characters not right error. I wondered whether it was a FireFox 3 issue (first time I posted on here since upgrading) but GPSed also had errors with IE7. In the end, I registered from the app itself on the device, and it worked straight away. |

Sorry - I was getting 400 errors from the server after about 5 minutes waiting for the page to load, so I hit back and re-submitted... Finally re-tried it with a fast-reply button and it worked, then saw the message about 6 repeats - sorry about that! |

T-Mobile do this with their Caller Tunes add-on. It has to be a network thing - unless the phone itself auto-answers, and then starts playing the music until you answer - of course, this would mean that the caller then is paying for the call. The Caller Tunes thing doesn't cost the caller anything - but the person being called pays a one-off fee for the tune (eg. £1.50) and then a £1 per month fee. |

Also, whilst my Vario III by default stores photos on the memory card, it seems to store videos on the phone memory. Worth checking you've not got any videos in your My Documents folder somewhere. |

"Sorry, your details do not seem to match with your card details . Please review your order details and try again." Grr - tried with 2 different cards which I've never had any problem with before using the correct details. Aha - finally got it working. I'd entered my house number in the house name box... obvious really.. |

C# casting is nicer though... Rather than CODE Dim myObject as Object = CType(myOtherType, Object) CODE object myObject = (object)myOtherType But I'll admit that VB.Net is far less of a problem than VB6 is - they both use .Net so much is similar once you get around the syntax. And after having used VB.Net for a while now, I don't spit and wash my mouth out every time I say it any more... neither do I have to have a shower after editing some VB Saying that thought, I still think in C#, and take much longer to read VB code than C# and would recommend C# to any new starter. Seeing as the syntax is so similar to C, C++, Java and JavaScript - it does help with keeping your employment options open. |

[rant] If you do use VB - please remember to turn Option Strict on. Silently casting between types isn't good and it isn't clever... And who thought of using () for both function parameters, and array indexes. Oh, and indexes starting at 0 (in some places - arrays) and 1 in others (eg. Strings.Mid) - along with defining an array specifies the last index into that array, not the number of elements wanted. So dim intArray(10) as Integer actually creates an 11 element array, not 10 as one would expect. And case insensitivity is just nasty... got caught out by that a couple of times when dealing with other people's code [/rant] |

I know what would be good. Since our journeys are linked to us as users. Can we then have a page which lists our journeys by date and gives statistics etc. Such as mileage, time start/finish, avg speed etc. Plus the ability to print off mileage reports would be good (so long as I can continue to add my usual 10% ;-) ) You sure you want your average speed on there... |

I have a similar issue with my Vario III and my Brodit active mount. I put the device in the mount and charging LED goes on - okay. Screen goes to 'on power' brightness. Shows as charging on the top bar - everything fine. Start TomTom Navigator 5, drive off. TomTom shows battery level and says charging. 15 minutes later I notice the charging LED is off. Power settings shows it's not charging, and after looking at the screen for a while, realise it's actually discharging. Removing the device from the holder makes the display go to the 'on battery' brightness. Re-inserting makes it go back to the 'on power' brightness, yet charging LED doesn't come on, nor does anything else on the device suggest it's charging - and again, over time the battery power goes down. If I check the screen brightness with the charger unplugged from the car (so no power), then it doesn't do anything - it stays on 'on battery' brightness. Shutting down the device and re-starting has fixed it - but I'm not certain if that solves it every time. Any suggestions? Doesn't sound like the charger itself (why would a reboot solve it?) It's random so doesn't always happen. Device always charges fine via USB sync cable, and by normal mains charger. |

I'm all for HTC implementing enhanced drivers - but personally, my Vario III is fine. Does what I want, when I want, without any noticeable performance issues. It's faster than my old Wizard/Vario I and that comparison video on the class action website between the Kaiser and the Magician is unfair due to the difference in OS causing a significant performance hit for the Kaiser. It would be great for them to do it - but I cannot see the justification in a class action suit. The device functions fine (for everything I've used it for - camera, videos, TomTom, internet, mail, application development), it doesn't crash, or have any of the issues I used to have with my old Wizard. |

Hmmm, the original press release states it has Office Mobile 6.1, not Windows Mobile 6.1, or is it the same thing? Source (Auf Deutsch) Nope, Office Mobile 6.1 was the update which included the ability to open the OOXML format documents included in Office 2007 (and a few other tweaks) and can be downloaded from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en So, it actually doesn't appear to be anything about Windows Mobile 6.1 |

Gee, thanks for yet another crap analogy that doesn't work in the slightest! Possibly even the worst so far! Let's just go through point by point: 1. BMW are required to fit the limiter by law, I believe. Certainly it's encouraged of any responsible car manufacturer. Does that apply to HTC? Nope, not required by law. There is a "gentleman's agreement" between German manufacturers that non-sports cars are limited to 155mph, but you can legally remove that limit if you wish and there is no legal requirement to. Also, apparently Porsche do not abide by that agreement and there was at least a discussion back in 2005 that the agreement was going to be dropped. 2. The limiter is something that BMW actively install. Just like the drivers which HTC passively omit, eh? You don't appear to consider that HTC may have actively decided to omit the drivers - maybe there was an issue with using them on the handset it was decided to just go with generic ones, rather than the specific ones. 3. If they didn't make some attempt to limit the speed, they'd probably be in line for lots of other lawsuits by the grieving families of RTA victims. Still seeing the similarity? Are you sure you're not from the USA? |

Hardly a compelling argument Jimbo about cars and speed ramps! This is more akin to buying a Mercedes and them not supplying you the know how to engage 6th gear. The knob doesn't tell you and the Merc engineers couldn't be bothered to write the instructions in the manual. There are proper drivers available for the LCD, HTC in their infinite wisdom simply aren't using them. I think that analogy is also a bit off. It's like buying a Merc, which you happen to know has an AMG spec engine in it (so should be fast!) - but when you try it out after purchase, you find it badly rev limited. The dealer's brochure doesn't mention the limitation, but the car does meet all the specifications that brochure and manufacturers advertised. You feel peeved as it's got an AMG in there, and you know it could go faster - if it wasn't for the limitation. Nothing ever stated that you'd be able to get the full power out of it, and it would have been obvious if you test drove it before purchase. |

I had this issue with my old Wizard - connecting in the headphones makes the phone think you're using a wired hands-free kit, thus disables the mic. What you need is to wire in a mic into the connector providing audio-out and ppower - quite possibly not possible with the how it's made. |
