If it's for a known number, then you can set that contact's custom ring to a silent sound file. |

There is not one with a check mark since the certificate was created in house. Windows can not validate it, so that checkmark is left unchecked. I just need to figure out where to get this certificate from. I talked to the help desk again, and still they claim no certificates are needed. Maybe if you check to validate the server certificate you will get more information about the certificate itself? Or when you're on the network, see if you can access https://ias.cssd.pitt.edu. If you're lucky, they have IIS running that is using the same certificate as the IAS server used for PEAP authentication. Or find a Macintosh user? |

In the Protected EAP Properties window on your PC, look for the certificate with the checkmark. That should be the one used by that wireless connection. |

is there a way to map the key to directly lock the phone so all i will have to do is hold down the button to lock it? Have it run vjdevicelock.exe (http://www.vijay555.com/?Releases:VJDeviceLock). The .cab file is most likely locked for installation of PocketPC. If it is, extract the .exe with this program: http://www.codeppc.com/telechargements/msceinf/msceinf.htm or use the attached file.
VJDeviceLock.exe ( 10.5K )

I saw that earlier today too. I made that change, and restarted my shadow, still nothing. "The server requires a personal certificate to postivily identify you." I can not even access the PEAP properties menu, making me think something is wrong with my shadow. I get this error even with wifi turned off when I try to manually add the network. I'm a college Junior who has done two IS internships and I cant figure out WM6. This seems way too complicated. I get the same message if I select properties on PEAP. Try finding/creating a personal certificate and importing it? |

There is no check mark by valdiate server certificates, so that does not seem to be the problem (unless I am looking in the wrong place). I attached the options window so you can see the setup. [attachment=24086:peap.jpg] Hmm. You may be right, but perhaps windows mobile is more picky (buggy on these matters). Go to settings > security > certificates > root to see what certificates are installed. Compare that with the list on the PC and try installing the ones the device doesn't have. Also check if you have any personal certificates installed on the PC as well. |

By default, holding down the Home key will bring up the quick list to set profile, etc. But if you want that key to do launch a program, just take a shortcut of an app you want to launch, copy & rename it to Long_Home (the .lnk extension is hidden) and *copy it to the windows folder*. I have mine mapped to a mortscript that runs Oxios CloseApps (http://www.oxios.com/memory/) and then close the resulting window for a quick way to tell all apps to close and free up some memory / cpu. Some of the info came from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=355141 You can probably remap some other keys as well, such as giving the camera button dual functions. |

Hello, I am trying to connect my shadow to my school's wifi network. The settings provided to me are: WPA-Enterprise TKIP 802.1x authentication PEAP I have put all of this information in and keep getting an error that I need a personal certificate. I have checked with the IT department, and no certificate is needed, just a user name and password. The IT dept can see me connect, but then get kicked out because the phone wants to do something with a personal certificate. Does anyone have any ideas, or is this setup just not supported by the shadow? PEAP authentication usually involves a root certificate on the authentication server and optionally a personal certificate for each user. I suspect that personal certificates are not used since they are a pain to distribute. If the school generated their own root certificate, then you will need to install that certificate on your device as well. It would be easiest to just find a wireless laptop that connects to the wireless network, open the wireless properties for the preferred network, authentication tab, click properties under EAP: type:PEAP, and check trusted root certificates. If you see one with your school's name, then you just need to export and install that certificate on your device. You can export certificates from IE: tools > internet options > content tab > certificates > trusted root certification authorities. It is also possible that the school is using a commercially bought root certificate that the shadow doesn't have installed. You just need to determine which one it is and install it on the device. |

I'm sure many computer sellers were totally convinced that your PC would not work (may explode even) if not purchased with a contract for an internet dial-up package. I'm still alive. Don't give in to the pitch. |

Firstly as the others hve said, he was talking rubbish and secondly he probably meant per mb rather than per minute. I'm not aware of any t-mobile data plans that charge per bit. Of course, I only know t-mobile USA so I guess it could be different in another country. |

Was the rep totally lying? I'm not aware of any per-minute Internet plans from t-mobile, unless you're using your phone like an analog phone to access dial-up internet, which would use voice minutes. Or maybe if you're roaming? |

Midian, yes, I want to know how to brick my shadow. I'm already on my third shadow so I AM NOT AFRAID. Please just post the instructions. I don't need proof, video or otherwise, that your shadow is fubar. I'm sure there is a blender website for that sort of thing. I just need to know the facts of how it's done. Thanks. |

I have edited that line in both \application data\home\chome.home.xml & \windows\chome.home.xml. Both didn't work :-( Even after a power cycle of the phone. After the phone came back up, I verified that the changes were still there. It's not in the registry is it? I could be wrong. It has been a while. Checking here: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms839391.aspx, perhaps it's COLOR_HIGHLIGHT instead? |

Does anyone know how to change the color of the highlighting on the start menu? As seen below, it is still brown. I believe in \application data\home\cmhome.home.xml, you need to edit <color name="COLOR_HOMEHIGHLIGHT" value="#D5B867"/> You can also set the colors in an external file. In this post: http://www.modaco.com/index.php?s=&sho...st&p=859865 the attachment contains a blue.scheme.xml. Inside, you'll see: CODE <colorscheme> <title>Blue</title> <scheme> <color name="COLOR_TRAYGRADLEFT" value="#044494" /> <color name="COLOR_HOMEHIGHLIGHT" value="#00143C" /> <color name="COLOR_HOMEHIGHLIGHTTEXT" value="#044494" /> <color name="COLOR_HOMETEXT" value="#FFFFFF" /> <color name="COLOR_HOMERULE" value="#2e444f" /> </scheme> </colorscheme> If you create a similar file and put it in \application data\home, you can select it in settings\home screen\color scheme. |

On the shadow, MMS server settings are locked by default, to unlock it so you can change it: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ArcSoft MMS UA\Config\UI and changed the key EnableServerEdit from 0 to 1 |

I've seen this on the old and the new rom, but the common factor is that it will happen on my device and not my wife's. Anyway, on the new rom, I noticed that when it happens, something messes up in power management and the backlight and display timeout are changed to their lowest setting of 10 seconds each. Not sure if having the display and backlight timeout the same is the cause or just a symptom, but I try to keep the backlight timeout at a lower number than the display timeout (eg: backlight at 30 seconds, display at 1 minute). I had considered running a daily script to update the timeout settings but I got sidetracked recently by other issues that required me to get a warranty replacement. Check if you have the same symptoms. |

is it really better and faster than cloudyfa's? only wanna upgrade if it's worth it. Thx. Not really sure. Depending on what apps you use, it's possible 3.1 is slower than 2.1. The application size of 3. 1 is much bigger compared to 3.1. It would be ideal if someone would hack cloudyfa's 2.1 with the hacked features to give us a light-weight alternative jvm. |

The original shadow rom has jvm: jeodek 2007.0806.2.1 The new shadow rom has jvm: jeodek 20071129.2.1 Neither supports a tzone (proxy) connection so they are useless to me. There are some newer and alternative jvms you can install to get better functionality. JVMs are better explained elsewhere: http://www.modaco.com/content/Smartphone-G...le/#entry879149. Recently there had been a bunch of newer JVMs, namely the jbed version, that popped up that claim better performance and compatibility. This post is to make you aware of those new versions. I'm going to focus on the jbed jvm because it's said to be very compatible and reliable. It works great with Opera Mini for full screen browsing and there are hacks to allow you to create a direct-launch shortcut to opera mini, disable the permission prompts, and make opera mini the default system browser for links. http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/ppc-6800-xv...et-manager.html http://eazyvg.wordpress.com/2007/12/05/ope...efault-browser/ One issue with jbed is, at least on my shadow, a small part of the bottom of the screen will get cut off for non-full screen applications, such as the gmail app, so that may cause some problems. Opera mini is a full screen app so that works fine. QUOTE * Jbed 20070802.2.1 (cloudyfa) This good old standby version of jbed works great. +supports proxy connection *Original link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.p...mp;postcount=24 *Original filename: Jbed.zip *Attached here:

Number of downloads: 268QUOTE * Jbed 20071119.3.1 (jrebeiro) I don't know much about this newer and bigger version of jbed. I think it's suppose to support 3d apps. +supports proxy connection +3d app support (info) *Original link: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showpost.php?p=1...mp;postcount=10 *Original filename: JRebeiro_EsmertecJbed_20071119.3.1.zip *Attached here:

Number of downloads: 208Then from this site (info), someone called lovetz1 started posting hacked versions of jbed that claim: +no permission prompting +3d support +larger heap size (I guess that improves performance) +local disk read/write access for JVM +installs in separate folder, even storage card, so existing jbed is not affected I'm not sure if these came from another site. They may originate from someone called giris, but it could be multiple people. Please correct my info. The first version posted was: QUOTE * JBed 20070524.2.1 hacked It's based on a version of jbed that is older than cloudyfa's. It has all the +'s of the hacked versions but it doesn't support a proxy connection. After install, you have to copy JbedRes.dll to where it installed, for, I assume, 3d support. *Original link: http://www.pda4x.com/read.php?tid=59304 *Original filename: JBed3dMod_HeapSizeFix_020108cab.rar *Attached here:

Number of downloads: 108The same version was also posted at allshadows: http://allshadow.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f...&hilit=jbed Later, the poster was made aware of jrebeiro's 3.1 version and started posting hacked versions of those: QUOTE * JBed_20071119.3.1 hacked for wm6 Like the original 3.1 version, this has proxy support as well as all the hacked features. I don't know exactly what made this 'for wm6', but there are some slight registry setting differences in the cab compared to the wm5 version, which I is below. With this installed, this version was correctly invoked when I downloaded a .jar/..jad file. *Original link: http://www.pda4x.com/read.php?tid=59304 *Original filename: JBed3dMod_HeapSizeFix_12.02.2008.rar *Attached here:

Number of downloads: 282*Cab components list:
v2.txt ( 14.17K )
Number of downloads: 118Later, another version was posted and was said for wm5 devices: QUOTE * JBed_20071119.3.1 hacked for wm5 It has all the features of the previous version. I believe the main difference is with how it's configured to be the default jvm for .jad/.jar files. On my shadow, after installing this, when I downloaded a .jar/.jad, my os's default jeodek jvm was invoked instead of this new one. Perhaps it'll work better on a wm5 device? *Original link: http://www.pda4x.com/read.php?tid=59304 *Original filename: JBed3dMod_HeapSizeFix_17.02.2008_TEST.zip *Attached here:

v3.txt ( 11.83K )
Number of downloads: 113Hope that is useful. I only use opera mini so it's up to YOU to find all the new stuff. I'm going to stick with JBed_20071119.3.1 hacked for wm6. |

thank you that helped for one day only I solved this problem by changing file to original "selector" file. Any clue what can cause it? any solution? The default java on the shadow is jeodek. The link provided mentions using jbed. The article also mentions that the permission hack only works with jbed. Also, i wasn't able to get opera mini to work over tzones until i installed jbed. |
