Hi,

I had so many problems getting ActiveSync to work using Bluetooth that when I eventually did get it working, I decided to write a guide or 'how-to'.  This will hopefully be useful to you all, as it would appear that I'm not the only one who struggled to get this working...

The guide makes use of Windows XP SP2's native Bluetooth driver and the Orange SPV C500.  Your mileage will vary.

Screenshots are included in the guide [document is in .pdf format].  This is the 'pretty picture version' - I'll look at releasing a text version here - later...

Wonder if there's a bulletproof guide for those using Widcomm bluetooth software and Cambridge Silicon Radio Bluetooth dongle, for me to be able to Activesync via bluetooth?

Thanks!

Have you application unlocked your phone? if I remember right you will need to.
I have this app running on my C500 without a problem.

If you mean the "Security levels", it's now set to "security disabled" it's one software that I got from Orange. Does this mean it's unlocked? I can't find the app on my phone. Might need a zip file installed in phone.

Thanks for the link and I've tried installing it but it doesn't appear to work, as it's not happening on installing into my C500 phone. Although noticed it's for Smartphone 2002, but I've got Windows Mobile 2003 second edition, would that have any effect? I've already rebooted phone but nothing still! Any ideas please, and sorry for this!

You can edit the registry for SMS  HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\Notifications
Click on Values and select Script
Now for example change the Value Data to v1w1v1w1v1

This will change your vibrate notifications to vibrate 1 sec wait 1 sec Vibrate 1 sec etc but keep your incoming call vibrate unchanged.
This works until you reboot the phone.

I do not know if the same can be applied to call notifications though as I have not found a way yet.

Thank you Awarner, for advising.

But can I ask how do I edit this and find the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\Notifications
file too, is that via Activesync explore or on the phone itself? Would be grateful for step by step instructions if possible please.

Thank you. biggrin.gif

There is a registry hack for file associations, i'll try and dig it out later.
To make your phone virbrate and ring go to Programs > Settings > Profiles
Select a profile and click "on call", you'll have a list of all ring/vibrate combination options.

Wonder if you happen to know how to make the phone vibrate longer or ongoing til I press any of the buttons, as it only vibrates only once and then never again! The reason being that I'm deaf and I wouldn't feel it going off in my pocket, would be of great benefit to me and other deaf users.

Many thanks! biggrin.gif

Have followed the instructions as said on the page and put the home screen files into windows folder. But nothing is on the screen apart from the wallpaper. But when I receive a text or receive a call, the bar comes up along with the "new message" or "missed call" box on it, I open it then go back to the home page. It goes back to blank screen without icon bar!

Any ideas on how to resolve that problem please.

Many thanks.

CAB installer.
A mod of the C500 default homescreen with a Mac feel to it and with added full screen missed call and new message (SMS and MMS) screens.

Comments

C500 ONLY - it probably needs to be unlocked as well.
Many thanks to randy as i kinda 'borrowed' from his Mac OS X skin for some of the colour scheme. smile.gif

Installation instructions:
1. Download the attached zip file and unzip it somewhere on your PC.
2. Copy the files Homescreen_MenuF.bmh and Homescreen_MenuS.bmh and paste them into your windows folder on the phone - ok overwriting them default files.
3. Install the CAB in the usual way.

As you might have guessed, because you need to copy files into the windows folder, they will be lost every restart - so you'll need to copy them over every time you restart.  Pain in the a**e but the only way (i've found) to customise the plugin.

Updates
12/10/04 - Mac Lite added - same as C500 Mac but without the Mail or Missed Call alert screens.
15/10/04 - Extra screens CAB added.
15/10/04 - Mac plus added - Same as C500 Mac but with added Alarm and WMP plvgins - see notes below.

]This looks really cool but can I ask which windows folder do I put the Homescreen_MenuF.bmh and Homescreen_MenuS.bmh files in, is it in the windows folder that you put in or the one in the storage folder?

And also wonder if you're able to tell me how do I get the orange bar with the icons that orginally came with the phone like your groovy mac version, as for some unknown reason it's disappeared as well the windows mobile at start up! Would be most grateful if you could advise me on how to resolve it or you have a software solution please!

Keep up the great work, and I like the idea of the sms message as it's great for us deaf people as we need eyes to see rather than a small envelope! biggrin.gif Although wonder if that is with the side bar software or is it in one of the other plus files?

Many thanks and sorry for the questions! laugh.gif

Many thanks!

do you know when you are selecting the homescreen, are you pressing done on the softkey and not home?
what homescreen is being displayed?

When I use the "Orange" option for home screen, it comes up blank, basically only showing the wallpaper but nothing else, it's supposed to show the vertical bar on the left that was created specially for orange smartphones.

Any ideas please? I've followed the exact procedure as said on the manual. That includes hitting the "done" soft key and hit the same button all the way down to the home screen but it still doesn't improve.

Many thanks, biggrin.gif
