What about the European ROM?

No word on that yet. I tried the 1.39 Cingular yesterday and the Asian 1.40 rom. I'm sticking with the Asian 1.40 rom, it's noticeably louder than the 1.39 Cingular rom.

Are they really 'working' on it?

"The AvantGo software is not supported on Microsoft Smartphone devices. If you install the PocketPC version of AvantGo, you may experience problems with your ActiveSync desktop software.

Please click the notify button below if you are interested in being informed if this status should change."

From that statement I got here, http://avantgo.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/avantg...waG9uZQ**&p_li= it doesn't sound like they are working on it at all...

QUOTE(optikalsaint @ Apr 25 2005, 14:20)
cingular and motorola are working to get a new firmware update out soon. i know this because i work for cingular. as of last week they were waiting for motorola to finish the firmware so they can flash all the phones they pulled off the shelves.

after that time, to my knowledge, you should be able to download the firmware from motorolas site or you can call the cingular warrenty department and they will send you out a replacment phone and you ship them back your phone.

either way we should see something in the next few weeks

-opti-

EDIT: you'll only be able to cash in the warrenty if your phone doesnt have any physical damage. also i am unaware if the phones theyll replace yours with will be new or refurbished.

Hi Opti,

I don't understand why they wouldn't just release the firmware at the same time Cingular flashes all the phones they have in stock? What's the reasoning behind delaying the release of the firmware to the public for download? I'm at wits end with this phone... can't hear anything.

Hope this firmware will be released soon. There was a previous thread stating it would be released a week or so back, that got me to buy the phone wish I hadn't.

No luck finding a free one eh? I've searched through Google and came up empty handed thus far. On Smartione, there's a tool in there to convert the RSS into HTML which I'm thinking of using for now until I can find a free one.

QUOTE(Paraklas @ Apr 24 2005, 16:53)
I've read many posts on other web sites (i.e. howardforums) on how some people managed to put the 1.25 version on their phone. Some others posted info about 1.32 and 1.33 firmwares as well which supposely make a HUGE difference in the sound issue and mini sd card compatibility and they are by far superior compared to the Cingular 1.30 (1.030).

Someone here also placed a post that Motorola is planning for a new firmware release these days.

Can someone confirm, what are the plans for the new firmware? What shall we expect from motorola and/or cingular?

Cheers!

As of now, you can expect nothing sad.gif I've had problems with this phone since day one, but lived with it expecting the 1.9 firmware which never came 'yet'. I'm hoping that sucker gets released soon so I can finally live with this phone.

Holy cow, just went through all fifty pages. I followed Simon's guide, but I still find that the custom ringtone volumes are way below the default ones. Has anyone found a way to bump the volume even more? I normalized it as Simon suggested, but it's still soft.

Oy, I've messed around with all of this and I can never get the ringtone to be as loud as the factory ringtones. I looked at the default factory ringtones and they seem to come in both .wav and .mid files.

I downloaded the Standard.wav and it's a 16 bit, 22kHz mono PCM file. I'm not sure what more I can do to my custom ringtones to make them match the quality of the default ones. I tried uploading the midi file of the song I used on my old phone and it was pretty awful.

Anyone know what type of 'profile' the MPx220 uses to play midi files?

Where did you go to change the background image?
*

The external LCD images are located here: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\ExternalLCD]
"BgImage" = "\Storage\My Documents\ExtLCD\Longhorn Bliss.jpg"

So just drop your images into that same folder and you'll be able to select it.

You aren't missing much :?: the camera on the MPX220 is awful. And I have yet to use the bluetooth feature since I always have the cable with me.

How's the sound quality? I was pretty impressed with my MPX220 for the first day and then noticed how I couldn't have a conversation with certain people because as many people have stated, the sound volume is awfully low. Hope Motorola fixes this in the next firmware update.

try putting the wav file in the folder IPSM/application dat/sounds

I was under the impression that MP3's cannot be used as ringtones. I convert my MP3's to WAV's and then cut out the section I want to use as a ringtone as they are rather large files. I tried a MIDI version of the MP3 I wanted to use and it was awful.
