1. I'm confused as to what you mean 2. It uploads in it's own format, but it's not highly compressed or encrypted. P Yes, there's proof that you should read what you write before posting it The problem with the journey I was on about has strangely been fixed in the past half hour. But the problem was the very last GPS co-ordinate uploaded being way out, by about 1 mile (due to entering an underground car-park). I was just wondering in any kind of validation occurred to combat this problem....then I started waffling! I'll keep an eye on it over the next few days, and will report any odd behaviour. Cheers G |

I think i've fixed all the outstanding issues in this Beta, and only have a couple of things to do before I issue the next beta, namely: - Test the journey end code a lil bit more - Think about how to incorporate the odometer into the UI - Add more detailed logging in the beta build for 'Upload Failed' so we can see what is happening I also have a weird thing happening where the first upload at the start of a journey sometimes populates the log box with just a blank line, without even a time (which shouldn't be possible). Anyone else seen this? P Yes I also saw this on the way to work this morning. Was going to try to reproduce on the way home this evening before reporting it...looks like you beat me to it G |

Hi Paul Just to solve my own cursiousity I have a few questions about how CamerAware works: 1. Does the application check for erroneous positions? For example, my trip to work this morning ended in me entering an underground carpark, which obviously has no GPS reception. What happens is the last position that the GPS logs is an incorrect position of about 1 mile away from my current location. I know it might add some processor overhead, but what could happen is that when a position is recieved by CamerAware, the last and next (you'll need to be logging one position behind 'live') positions are compared and if the 'middle' of the three positions is wildly different it could be discarded. This would allow for genuine losses of satellite fixes. (hope you get my drift 2. Does CamerAware compress and/or encrypt the positional data before upload? Cheers Graham |

Great update, odometer functionality seems to work great! The application does hang though in certain situations, just checked and this does happen on previous beta versions as well. Problem: When pressing Disconnect when there isn't, and hasn't been, a valid fix in the current session, the application hangs. The status text says 'Finishing Position Upload'. Hardware: Fujitsu-Siemens T830, WM5, 240x240, Built-in GPS. To Reproduce: 1. Ensure CamerAware is in Expert mode, and is set to connect on startup. 2. Start CamerAware. 3. Wait until GPS is connected and Camera database is loaded. 4. Before a fix is aquired, press 'Disconnect' 5. The application will now hang with the spinning egg-timer of death. Shout if you need anymore details. G |

Looks good, can't test it at the moment due to only having a sqaure screen. But looking forward to the finished product. Glad you got the DTD issue sorted.....don't worry you're not the only one to have suffered the limited XML support in Compact Framework G |

A hard reset fixed that, yay! Changing from the default theme to the default windows theme makes the screen look WAY better too. P Glad you found out about the hard reset, took me a while to figure out where the reset button. I still don't understand why on a Windows Mobile phone they made the reset button such a pain to get to! Agreed on the windows theme change...also better if you change the default text size down one notch as well. Probably the most annoying thing I'm finding about the phone is those damn flashing LEDs...try sleeping with the phone in your bedroom |

I've just installed CamerAware, but although the green GPS LED is flashing, CamerAware isn't displaying any kind of satellite status I'm just hoping it's a bit lethargic before it's first fix, and not that I have a duff unit! Might go and try iGo on it in a minute P I also had this problem but with TomTom when I first installed it. A hard-reset soon fixed that now it's working perfectly. |

Phew, I thought this one had fallen off the radar. I've been using this device for about three days so far, and much to my surprise I haven't found the square screen to be a hinderence yet. If you think about it, the on-screen keyboard on a 320x240 san-keyboard device takes up the bottom third of the screen anyway! The keys on the keyboard are really tiny, but amazingly it's one of the best keyboards on this kind of device I've experienced, erroneous key-presses are non existent. Looking forward to the review Paul, it'll be interesting to see what you make of the phone. PS. CameraAware works great on it |

Hi Paul Well first I will congratulate you on such a useful and professional looking application. I'm just about to purchase it for my new Fujitsu Seimens Loox T830! A great idea adding traffic information, quite coincidental that recently I have been investigating and making some prototypes to provide this functionality....looks like you'll be saving me the bother , thanks Anyway here's a few suggestions: - The time between downloads should be user configurable . The user should also be able to do an adhoc update, not sure there's enough real estate on screen so maybe via a menu option or hardware button. - To save on the download size, you could have an options screen whereby the user can select one (or multiple) traffic regions or even motorways only. I'm sure you know this but a list of the feeds for the regions is at http://www.bbc.co.uk/travelnews/tpeg/tpeg.opml . Doing it this way would mean one whole region would only use between 20-30kb (based on my experience, probably more on bank-holidays!). - Again the option to alert at either a specified distance or time from the disruption should be user configurable. A pain to implement multiple ways of doing this, but give the user the option and you'll have less complaints...everyone's happy (in theory anyway!) - Maybe as a way of alerting the user of a disruption you could flash up the road number and distance to disruption in head/compass window for instance. The alert could flash faster the closer you get, perhaps with some kind of audible indication. Good luck with this feature, I look forward to seeing some prototypes/betas. Thanks Graham |

QUOTE(Paul [MVP] @ Mar 28 2006, 19:32) Damn, mine only came with one....and I messed up applying it  Back to being careful then. Anyway back on track with the topic in hand. I too have this problem with it waking up at random intervals. There are some solutions flying around the internet based on entering a dummy Exchange server in ActiveSync, unfortunately I need to sync with a real Exchange server so I'm still looking for a solution. |

Am I the only one who finds the vibration motor on the A701 to be the most agressive ever seen? Mind you, it is funny to watch the phone 'dance' across then desk when an email arrives |

QUOTE(Cybertronic @ Dec 2 2005, 02:57) I bought one from eBay and when I use it, the volume has become extremely quiet but the headphones are fine on a K750i with an adaptor :?: Does anyone know where I can buy a fully working one that doesn't quieten the sound on the headphones? Please let me know I use one from Maplin Electronics (http://www.maplin.co.uk) Product Code: FA94C. This seems to work without affecting the volume. |
