Oh i'd love this kinda thing if only it had bluetooth battling - maybe abit like pokemon? (ah the good old days....) - it's a must. Also if it is compatible cross platform, so PPC can still interact with the Smartphone version. The reason why this thread has grown into this is becuase a normal virtual pet is no fun. I mean - look even if you have a dog - you're still trying to teach it "fetch" and "kill" |

I'd recommend you buy yourself a decent digital camera if you want good quality. No phone camera is great. Even that new Sony Ericsson phone that has a 2mp camera has crap quality - i've had a chance to play with it. It's all about the optics and the sensor - and frankly no cmos camera phone (no matter how many mega pixels) will give high quality shots. |

Does anyone know what the string is to dial a GPRS connection on orange? On some websites it says this string is usually *99***1# but the dialer just says waiting and nothing else. If I go to a website on the mobile internet explorer it works fine. Thanks in advance, D. |

wow it looks great! works on my C500 no problem. This is just the start - I can only imagine the quality of homescreens that utilise this homescreen in the near future. |

I find that owning a C500 and a Tablet PC (In my case the HP TC1100) covers all the needs I currently have and may want in a few years...It even replaced my laptop and cut out any need for a PPC. Even if this is an old topic. |

Hi all, I have a bluetooth enabled laptop and I would like to surf the internet from my laptop using the C500 as a gprs modem over bluetooth. I've tried searching but perhaps the words I used did not come up with any results. There are guides on the net for other phones but not an MS phone in specific. Anyone? I've got the activesync over bluetooth no problem, it's just setting it up to use the gprs connection on the phone. Thanks in advance. dshaugney |

Likewise I am merely hypothesising. The reason that leads me to conclude about drivers is that it can be a variable of any sort to cause this sort of problem. But I do agree with you about the part that once it starts it does not stop-though we do not know the device very well, and I old not rule out a hardware defect. |

what I'm trying to say is that hard reset wouldn't help because the rom itself is at fault.Imagine several layers like in networking there is the 7 Layer model. The top layer starts as software, application layer and gradually move down towards the hardware, physical layer.the chance for error is highest at the topmost software layers because usually hardware is set in its paths with no room for error. Hardware quality control is very good these days (there is always an exception). A loose solder would behave in an entirely random way and the sound would cut out/ distort a lot more than that. software is more often less reliable than hardware. |

I can see why many people think it may be Hardware, although I'd disagree. If the problem was hardware then we'd all be seeing the same exact problem, same 10 sec delay right out of the box. However, others say they have a different cycle, and many say it didn't start until later.
This leads many to think that it may be a conflict with software they installed. If so then why isn't it cured by a hard reset? I've always belived that this is a software problem intrinsic to the implementation of the operating system itself. In other words it's a buggy ROM that hasn't been properly tested. More specifically I think it's something to do with the drivers that interact with the hardware; if there is such a thing, if not then something at the intermediate layer between the hardware and the topmost software layer. For example the graphics have the GDI layer. This would explain how all the programs have this problem (WMP and Beta): Take GDI for example... Any program that uses it doen't have to know exactly how to use the hardware to create the graphics on the screen - instead the software tells GDI what it wants to do with the graphics (specific output) and GDI translates it into instructions for the hardware. That makes it alot easier to develop the programs. Likewise with sound; all WMP does is decodes the audio sream and sends it to the audio driver for output. If not the drivers then the other only place could be a doggy codec. |

I remember that insanity meter gag. They show you a pic of an f1 and this sound.
Strangely I heard this sound playing out loud today in Debenhams in Bullring (Birmingam), was it any of you? |

Hi Stu. Thanks for your reply. I originally sent my phone to HTC for worranty repair to get the dust problem fixed. I'd say they fixed 80% of it cos the dust is still coming in but alot slower now. The reason I had to open up the logo cover is that I started hearing some rattling noise yesterday...figured someone forgot to tighten up a screw as it came undone. I was right. |

never mind...got it in the end. I'd say be careful about the two latches on the top of the plastic cover they are horizontal not vertical so if you yank it too hard they will snap off as plactic does. |

Stu thanks for the great doc. One small thing I'm not clear about is the bit with the windows logo. After you get your nails in it; Is it a lifting action or do I try and pull it off. Also do I use only nails or did you just start with nails? |

I just booked mine in for repair. I'll post it on monday.
Just a few quick questions: 1) It mentions some tick-sheet that's generated at the end of the proceedure that it wants me to send along with the phone. I got squat and nada in the email. 2) What kind of packaging do you suggest? Thanks in advance. |

QUOTE I was asking about in the Orange store today about a chepo PAYG phone while I send my C500 and the nice lady said they do Loan-a-Phone for £50 deposit which you get back after you give them the phone and receipt back. Definitely a good idea me thinks. Holy cow! I just read my post and I'm amazed anyone understood what I was talking about! I wrote that very early in the morning and I was very sleepy and distracted. It has nothing to do with my terrible grammar or spelling. |

Yeah I was looking forward to it 2 years ago...but now I'm more than happy with my C500. The touchscreen is impressive, though not groud breaking.
Perhaps I'll be waiting for its second incarnation. |
