not possible. You can only use the standard internal sounds for that. Also it is not possible to get your phone ringing and vibrating at the same time. This is really rediculous... 4,5 years ago I had an Samsung N620 for about 4 weeks, then I sold it and I was very glad I bought a Nokia back then. Now, anno 2006, Samsung STILL won't allow ringing AND vibrating at the same time! Come on Samsung, this isn't rocket science is it?!

Also, T9 is a disaster, you can add words, but every time you use those words they are in the case you used when entering them. No way to erase them either (except for resetting your phone to factory). Also, this phone is not multitasking in any way. When you play a game and (by accident) quit by pressing the 'red' button (end call button) it just quits immediately, no way to get back where you left. This also counts for SMS (although it asks to save your data first to draft folder so it wouldn't be lost), calculator, just everything. Then there is a few just unthought of things. Like it is possible to move a message in a personal folder, but then you cannot move it back again. Like how it is unpossible to view photo's taken from your cam in full screen...

The OS of this phone just is not finished in any way. On the other hand, there are pro's too:

Very fast compared to any smartphone today: i had an QTEK 8020 (disaster model), which booted in about a minute or so. Samsung: 7 seconds. (my old nokia 3210: 2 seconds). Its camera is very good, 2mpix seems bullshit to me in a cellphone, never the less it's quality surprises me! Good playback options, speakers and sound are SO much better than the QTEK's one. Fast respons in menu's, no need to wait for a keypress to be executed. Marvelous screen; personally I think it is even clearer than the QTEK 8310's, which is also QVGA resolution. It's handsfree function works like a charm, I don't even use my headset anymore in car, just the handsfree. My QTEK 8020 has handsfree too, but at first soundquality of the peops that call me is very bad, and also THEY complain they can't hear me very well.

So it has it's pro's and it con's.

To be short: No, you can't add your peronal message tones wink.gif

maybe you should try setting your Linksys router to B only and see if it catches the signal then. Though mixed mode should work just fine, you could maybe try it... And indeed changing channel might fix some.

a 400mhz CPU, that makes quite a difference... i wonder about battery lifetime. Also, i don't have the time now to look up the specs, but is this an ARM-cpu?

I actually like the design! Compact when 'closed'. Shame about the external antenna though... If i didn't just bought a qtek 8020 i might consider this one. Can't wait for the reviews!

I found something new! I found out using picodrive. I read in the multipress-thread (how come this isn't fixed in the current rom release?) that the joystick in combination with the * key does work. And indeed it does. Even stranger: when holding the joystick to a direction, pressing * once but not letting the joystick go, it indeed continues to run/drive/whatever in that direction, but WITHOUT slowing down. Tried this in the messaging screen: when moving the cursor in a message, pressing a number key just interrupts a moment but then it continues moving the cursor. When you press * when the cursor moves, it then stops moving! So the * in combination with the joystick disables the joystick's repeat rate until you release the joystick.
I confirmed by playing a few games, and the all react the same way: the slow down until you push * and then they run fine until you release the joystick and push another direction.

So it's clear it's really the repeat-rate of the joystick that makes the thing so slow. Would anyone know how to lower, or maybe even disable the repeat rate?

Installed the update to use wm10, then restored via sprite backup to get all my pics and messages back, now i have no ringtones! I tried to run some of the sounds via file explorer and opening the tone with wm10 and i get alert>A registry entry is corrupt....any ideas what is wrong? The vibrate works but thats the only one!!!!
*

please read the readme of sprite-backup. It clearly says it is NOT intended to run after rom-updates, however it does have support for it in some way.better safe your pics and stuff to your pc or SD, and give the phone a reset, and then reconfigure it. Takes some time, but makes sure you aren't overwriting registry keys and files with older versions

I don't have a C500 myself any longer, but I have read somewhere that you'll need a file called CurrentMap.dat inside this folder \storage\my documents\tomtom. For some reason TT5 doesn't (always) create this file by itself? A backup of that file from the old TT should be ok, though...
*

this is almost right: there has indeed to be a folder \storage\my documents\tomtom, and it has to have AT LEAST one file in it, doesn't matter how you call it. You could even copy a MP3 in it and delete after the first tomtom-run.

No, you don't need to copy the TyphoonNBFTools.dll to your phone, but instead copy it into the same directory where TyphoonNBFTools is on your PC. this should solve your problem. BTW to avoid confusion it's not "emergency flash available" but "immediate flash available" that will appear on the title bar.  see attached word document for instructions with screenshots.    enjoy  wink.gif
*

indeed this is true, I tested it without the DLL on the phone and, after running ResetRAPIpolicy it worked indeed. I had the DLL in the same dir as the tool anyway. I read it had to be in the root of the phone on spv-developers forum somewhere. Glad it now works for the people, sorry for my mistake.

too bad there are no more reactions of other people with this problem, or are you all not having it?

Anyway, dumb question of mine, how should I post in development? there are those two sub-forums in development forums:

Smartphone Development - .net Compact Framework
Smartphone Development - Visual C++

should I post this problem over there?

Got a problem, used the spv-developers simunlock service and then installed the qtek rom as I was tired of waiting for the big O to release the UK version of the update.

As its now here I want to install it but get the following error message: Error [296]: Upgrade Only.  This NBF file cannot be used for your smartphone.  Please get a newer NBF file.

So I thought I would try to go back to the old rom in order to do a standard upgrade using your instructions below.  The problem I have is that I can't get the NBFtools to show 'emergancy flash' in the title bar and therefore am stuck.

Please let me know if I am doing something wrong.

- copy the TyphoonNBFTools.dll file to the ROOT of your phone (not in Storage or on your SD, REALLY the ROOT)
- install cert.cab on your phone to get the required certificate
- copy the resetrapipolicy file on your phone or SD and run it (it seems to do nothing but it does)

check those steps... again, it needs to be in the ROOT of your smartphone, that means in the same 'folder' as where you see the 'profiles, storage, storage card, teno and windows' folders. I'm not sure wheter the cert.cab is needed on unlocked phones. Mine IS unlocked however, but I did install the cert.cab anyway. I ran the resetrapipolicy several times as it seems to do noting. Maybe you should run it a few times before starting NBFtools.

If you need more help or if it's still not working, post your results. Are you sure you are using the correct version of NBFTools? I used 0.3.

Hi peops! I'm runnign a QTEK 8020, just updated to the latest 2.1.32.23 ROM, and I hoped this would fix my problem. My old 1.3 ROM had the same.

When I sync my contacts to Outlook 2003 using ActiveSync, my contact get messed up. I live in the Netherlands, so most of my numbers start with +31. After syncing with outlook all leading +'s are missing. So all numbers are like 316xxxxxxxx without the +. Then after removing the phone from USB, and connecting it again, all contacts from outlook (without the +) are synced to the phone, and I have all contact doubled! One with +, one without. I tried setting up the country-code in both my phone as well as outlook but that didn't fix it (or I did something wrong).

Any suggestions to this? Can't find anything about this on the web, but I can't imagine I am the only one with this problem...

Well, with help of some forums all around the world I finally got to flash an older firmware back. Not that I had any problems; TomTom5 works great using 3 different BT GPS modules. But I forgot to backup my Dutch T9 dll so I wanted to revert. The trick with TomTom is 2 way: At first, when pairing your GPS module, do NOT bind an outgoing COM-port on it, TomTom does this for you. If you bind a com-port yourself (apart from the default outgoing COMport (6 in my case)) TomTom cannot open an additional port to the GPS module and will refuse to work.
At second, when having TomTom installed on your SD and applying a new firmware, everything on your phone will be deleted ofcourse. TomTom REQUIRES the \storage\My Documents\TomTom folder to exist, and there MUST be a file inside! It doesn't matter even if you put a music file in there, but there MUST be a file in there. If not, you will not get past the 'warning' screen of TomTom. This is true for both legal and 'patched' versions of TomTom. Reinstalling TomTom from the original CD ofcourse fixes this...

Now for going back to older firmware:
first go to http://sourceforge.net/projects/nbftools/ and get version 0.3 of the NBFTools.
then go to http://arisme.free.fr/TyphoonNBFTools/ and get the NBFTools remote client
grab http://rataplan.ath.cx/ResetRAPIPolicy.zip
and get http://web.orange.co.uk/yourphone/spvc500/...l?id=sm_1137635,

Ok, you've probably already noticed it's not your average firmware upgrade with all those tools wink.gif Here goes some:

- unzip/unrar all downloaded files.
- connect using USB and make sure your ActiveSync connection is working (you don't need to register your phone, but you must be connected)
- copy the TyphoonNBFTools.dll file to the ROOT of your phone (not in Storage or on your SD, REALLY the ROOT)
- install cert.cab on your phone to get the required certificate
- copy the resetrapipolicy file on your phone or SD and run it (it seems to do nothing but it does)
- run the TyphoonNBFTools on your PC. If the titlebar does not say 'emergency flash available' you made a mistake somewhere.
- Now it's time to use the orange rom. You could use Winrar to extract the RUU_typho_v1.1.1.91_v4.1.1.4OrangeUK_S.nbf file, OR you can just run the setup until the screen which shows the phone pops up, browse to 'c:\documents and settings\\local settings\temp dir, there should be a folder named pftxx.x which contains the files. Copy the nbf file to your desktop or another location.
- Within the NBFTools click 'file --> open' and open the just saved NBF file.
- I'm not sure if this step is required for the SPL flash, but I changed model name to QTEK 8020 and I erased the operator field. Can be done through the 'edit header data menu. Be sure to do a recalculation of the hash, even if the tool reports it has already recalculated one.
- Now right-click on the SPL in the bottom window and click 'emergency flash'. There will first be a test before the actual flash is done. If the test fails, do NOT even try to flash or your phone will NEVER boot again.
- After the flash is done, just reboot your phone. It acts like normal but now has an older boot-loader.
- That it! Now you can use your original updates, even the older ones, to flash your phone!

You might even want to use NBFTools again if you want to flash a rom which was not intended for your specific phone model, but that is described in the start-port of this thread.

Any questions? Feel free to ask! (but from friday I will be on holidays for 2 weeks smile.gif)

good idea. But I think it's good to investigate the problem as much a possible first.

Can other people with 8020 confirm this problem?
Are there other phones affected by this problem?
Are there specific titles for which this problem does NOT occur?

all information is welcome. When we've got enough I'll make a nice post for development.

Recieved a new 8020 yesterday. Now i've got one with the joystick slightly disalligned... *sigh*

Anyway, I bought 6th Gear the other day, a nice cardriving game for SmartPhone. With the default key setup, you accelerate with the joystick 'up' key. Now when I KEEP pressing the pedal to the metal, you can see the game slowdown seriously. As soon as I release the key the game runs as smooth as the cream in a twinky.

There must be a way to resolve this, wouldn't there? I've looked all through the registry to find something that could help but I found nothing...

Hi there, I've got an Qtek 8020, but as that is essentialy the very same phone as an C500 i think i am in the right forum now.

I've got a problem with the joystick. The joystick are the only 4 keys (assuming every direction is just a key) on which key repeat rate is used. So if you hold it, the system keeps repeating the keypress. However this seems so slow down the phone awfully. Now I'm not a gamer but occasionlly I play a game on it, also through emulators. Now when I hold the joystick to a direction to move the game character, everything slows down. This seems to be because of the repeat rate of those 'joystick keys'. I noticed this when I turned on the keyclick-sounds and then you can hear those keys are repeated constantly.

When I redefine keys to use numbered keys, it all works fine but that's a lot more difficult to play.

So to be short: is it possible, though a setting, regkey or whatever to disable the key repeat rate of the joystick?

Thanks in advance!
