Dont know about the t-mobile layout, but there's so much you can tweak on the today screens and themes etc that I'm sure you'll end up finding a setup your prefer. Search a thread for 'post your today theme' or something similar and some are wicked.

To get you started is a list of Freeware I just listed in another post:

PocketCM (finger friendly contact application)
Ultimate Launch (endless trial but 'not registered' appears in the screen corners after a while)
S2U2 - (animated slide to unlock with many added features)
Thumbcal (finger friendly calendar application)
Batti 2.2 (battery status plugin)
Total Commander (explorer, registry editor and zip etc)
DivX Player (Plays a range of media files that others wont)
Dynamo (Alternative visual task manager)
PIM Backup (File back up app)
Pocketscreen (screen shots!)
Clear Temp
Calendar+ (today plugin)
WeatherPanel (today plugin)
WOW HD (Really enhances sound through the wired headset)

A search on here, XDA or google should find them all for you.

PIM Backup worked fine for me between ROMS. As far as which ROM goes, that's a tough one - I went for dutty's 6.1 from April in the end - it's been tested to death and any problems I had were found in a search within the ROM forum. I have no issues with it at all and it funs fast.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=388947

There are posts around about backing up your original ROM or alternatively searching for it after you brick your phone should work!

Good luck!

I'd like to have the home screen appear like this (hope the link is OK):

http://www.devicewire.co.uk/htc-touch-cruise-premium

Is this possible with the Touch Diamond?

You might be able to reinstall it via a today plugin? Check this thread over at XDA, someone seems to be sorting it..... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=403286

Good luck

OK, I've got my notifications back, whoo hoo.

Still looking for a way to stop the device waking up when an SMS comes in though...

I was annoyed by this problem too - the best I could come up with was to install S2U2 - you may be familiar with it. It's a fantastic app that will keep the device locked and notify you on the screen as well as give you other info such as weather and missed calls etc - cool animated gifs too.....

Attached Image Attached Image <-- here's mine!

Good luck

I used to end the data connection by holding the 'end call' key before going wifi to make sure - now there are a few 'advanced config' tools kicking around that will disconnect the data connection if not used for x amount of time. They work for me and have some other great tweaks in too.

This is one of the ones I use over at XDA http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=333898

I dont know if you're having the same problems I did to do with the drivers on your pc and the settings in activesync?

Check this thread over at XDA - a driver update for my wireless adapter and "allowing a wireless connection" solved my issues.

I dont use Total Commander, so this is guesswork...

You might need to use the folder selector (up at the top of the TC screen), or possibly the yellow cube icon (second from the right at the bottom of the screen) to choose the registry.

You'll know when you're there because you should see stuff like "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE", "HKEY_CURRENT_USER" etc. Just browse them as though they were regular folders.

Thanks for your reply - I sorted it in the end with this that I found over at xda-dev:

"to edit the registry using total commander first open the application and then hit the "\" key on the top right which will then take you to the "main page" of total commander, you will then see a folder list the first of which will read "\\Plugins" double click that or press and hold and select "open" after opening another folder list will appear with 3 folders named "ftp, LAN and registry" then either double click or press and hold and select open on the folder named "registry" and from there on its similar to most other registry editing programs with the 3 folders " HKCR, HKCU and HKLM""

After that it all went to plan!

Cheers

I need some really basic help guys.......

I've got my Tytn II and run through all the suggested tweaks and freeware etc - if I could have downloaded go faster stripes I would have done!

The one I have left is ""Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\Camera\P9 and change the value "enabled" from 0 to 1""

I've installed Total Commander, but I have absolutely no idea how to Navigate from the opening screen to view/edit these keys!?!

I know what the replies may be..... if I can find a registry key probably best not to be messing.... ok, very funny in advance... but I cant find an idiots guide no matter where I search.

Or maybe I'm searching in the wrong place too!!!

Help please!!

Cheers

I have just got a TyTN II and would like to use TomTom Navigator 5 on it. I called TomTom support and they could not give me a definitive answer as to whether it will work or not rolleyes.gif

Also, if I un-register my current device (HP HX4700) and find that Nav 5 doesn't work on the TyTN II - I will not be able to register it on the HX4700 again!!

So, does anyone know if Navigator 5 will work?

Works absolutely fine for me - installed no problem.

I don't know if its been fixed in this rom but as direct push always uses the gprs/3g there is a danger of internet traffic also using it. It was recommended that you turn off direct push before starting wifi browsing. I turn off directpush in comm manager just to be sure.

You are not charged for being connected - only for actual data.

Thank you - this worked.

I turned off Direct Push and I also made sure the settings in sync were set on anything but 'as it arrives' (I assume that is direct push).

Sync now runs every 5 minutes using WiFi connection only.

Sorted.

Hi All,
I have just orderd on Orange Canary £30 18month an "HTC M3100" (still don't know if it is HTC or Orange brand yet - how exciting!!) and I have seen in the forum people going on about the £8 unlimited data bundle from Orange. Is this now available, and is it available to everyone on Orange, or people who have struck up really good upgrade deals to stay?
thanks all

Nick B

Just come off the phone to Orange - It's £8 per month, but you have to be on a Panther or premier tariff.

They are offering a couple of different trials too - 1gb or 500mb for two months, gives you a chance to check how much you are using.

When wifi is active the biq square is replaced by the wifi icon.

I need some help on the same subject please.

I have direct push set up and it is working fine (connects via 3g when I'm out and about) - I also have WiFi set up via my router at home and it's working fine (I can connect to the internet etc).

My problems start when I stop the device 'sleeping'. WiFi and 3g (the icon above the bars) have a race to see who can connect first and I keep having to press the red end call button until 3g gives up and WiFi is properly connected. 3g then stays away UNTIL I receive an email!?

I've run a couple of tests this morning (emailing myself etc) and regardless of whether I am connected to WiFi correctly, when an email is on it's way to me 3g kicks in.

I've tried to keep pressing the red button to stop it connecting and when I do so I get one of the following errors:

1) synchronization interrupted
2) Waiting for Network
3) Most strange of all I get Newtwork Log on request - Resource: Orange GPRS WAP asking me for user name, password and domain? <--- what's this about - all of this information is already stored and works fine if 3g is left to connect me.

I'm hoping someone is going to tell me that 3g connecting is just what it does and the data will actually come from the WiFi conntection - but this doesn't add up because when I try and stop it, it wont sync, with the above errors.

Help! I want to use my free WiFi conntection only!

One more thing - does having the little 3 above the bars mean I am being charged or can you have it there and it cost nothing?

Cheers

I forgot to mention do a reset! Despite all settings being correct, networking devices sometimes remember routes you dont want them to and dont discover routes that you do want! The reset clears all such residual memories and ensures that the device acts as required:

It should use wifi by default if it is available. It should only use 3g if wifi isn't available. The one time that this may not be true is if you still have a 3g connection valid (say for direct push) and it uses this instead of the available wifi.

With regard to 3g, the way these devices are designed is that you have top levels of connection eg Orange World or My ISP and within those you can have multiple settings.

As far as I know, you should set your Orange World to use Orange GPRS 3G. Then tell your Select Networks to use Orange World to connect to the Internet - then each time you open a browser or connect to mail, it should see if it has a valid internet connection (eg wifi) and if not it will use Orange World (and thus Orange GPRS 3g).

I haven't got in to setting up vpn's to clients yet - but found on my last device that these could be set up using the MY WORK network settings - I recall early Orange WM2003 devices used the my work settings for MMS - but these now use GPRS MMS instead.

Some routers/access points offer four wep keys purely as a way to segregate encryption between different data types but its not used much if at all these days. Use of different keys doesn't reduce the encryption load on the access point and it doesn't segregate different users and types of users.

But don't worry. Having all your users on one key doesnt matter. The access point will still share the data throughput fine between you (ie you aren't all just using a quarter of the bandwidth or anything).

Thanks Jimbouk

I put the settings back to how they were, as you said, did another reset and it works, so I'm happy now and the other M3100 configured fine, only on key1 again though, but now I know they are not sharing bandwidth I am left with no problems at all <-- just doesn't feel right! - no problems!? How can this be?

I'm about to try and sort out push email, so watch this space!!

Don't worry about "doubling up" - you can connect multiple devices to a wifi router via the same key.

With regard to network settings, if you havent mucked about with the actual settings that it came with, you want the top one to say Orange World and the private one to say My work network.

Then make sure you disconnect 3g (in com mgr end data service or via red hang up key for three seconds), then connect wifi and open up internet explorer.

A2gb card would come in handy actually!

Thank you - but.... it didn't work? It just tried to connect to 3g everytime..... I put the settings back and then did a reset and now it works!!

So - thank you!, but, - what should those settings be? I changed them to 'My ISP' remembering the instructions on a version of WiFiFoFum I downloaded ages ago......

Will this cause problems with receiving MMS?

What are the four keys for on the router then? - why not just have one!?

CONFUSED but WIFI is working!

So, I've got my M3100 - told the girl at Orange that Vodaphone had done a marketing call earlier and said I could have their equivalent handset for free and the £100 upgrade fee was waived before I knew it.

Fantastic, but now I'm setting up the device with all the standard settings and WIFI is causing me a problem.

My encrypted WIFI router is showing on the list of available networks and I've connected to it in the normal way. It's taken about 10 attempts, but I've finally got it to connect to Key 1 on the router (Linksys WAG354G). I didn't do anything other than keep re-entering one of the four keys that I have.

My first questions is pretty basic, because I thought the four available keys meant I could connect four devices - my laptop connects to key1 and this is the only key my M3100 will connect to? Will doubling up on this key cause a problem?

Although I am now connected and I have set both the private network and internet settings under network manager to show 'My ISP' when I try to connect to the internet it brings up a box that says "you cannot connect with the current settings!!!! <--- annoying!!!!

I had 2 x M2000s before and one always said this and the other connected fine - I used the one that worked and didn't lose any sleep about the other one, but why is it doing this!!!!!! <---- bloody annoying!!!!

I've got another M3100 in a box next to me (my girlfriends - Vodaphone called her too ... (free as well!!)) and I'm about to set that up too - am I going to have to use key 1 on the router again!?

Why can't I connect to the internet - I'm sure I've done this all right!!!!!?

AAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

First person to respond might get a free 2gb Micro SD card - but it's unlikely!

Help.......

I run my own business and would not consider this as a marketing tool.
