I like it, in fact I've liked several of the weeny small Palm devices.
They're also supposed to be fast aren't they?

I ditched my Samsung i780 because of the square screen though. I didn't get on with it for reasons that are hard to explain - it just felt wrong. I don't like having to scroll up/down on menus to see all the options, and I couldn't read it properly with realVGA installed.

I was reading an article on PocketPC Thoughts where they were wondering where the excitement had gone from WM, and I have to say I agree with them - this Treo looks nice, but it's certainly not exciting.

HHTaskBar seems to be the Task Bar itself, but I'm not sure how you use it
I Googled this:
QUOTE
"windows mobile" HHTaskBar
and it came back with lots of hits, the most promising (I think) of which is this:

QUOTE(Simon Desser @ Aug 12 2008, 21:15) *
I've had one for a couple of days and there's lots to get excited about, but as usual, there's some little annoyances mad.gif
Games are virtually impossible to play with the optical joystick sad.gif
A few games I've tried won't run because of the odd screen resolution sad.gif
You HAVE to lock the keypad as the buttons still work even when in standby huh.gif
If you turn off the option to turn on the backlight when a button is pressed you don't need to lock the keypad, but the screen permanently stays on the dimmest setting huh.gif
Signal strength isn't marvelous, and fluctuates a fair bit, often find it showing one or no bars where others show full strength, and even went straight to voicemail last night when showing full wack (I tend to put them to the test!) wink.gif
Volume when listening to music is a fair bit quieter than HTC devices, fine indoors but not sure about in the street or on Manchester trams laugh.gif
GPS worked fine at first, but after a hard reset yesterday TomTom can't find a signal at all for some reason unsure.gif
The device is pretty finger friendly but once you get down to the usual WM6 stuff you need a stylus, and unfortunately the stylus was obviously an afterthought, and so has no dedicated slot mad.gif You need to attach it to the lanyard hole which means it dangles all over the place and is rather annoying !!

Hopefully some of the bad points will get fixed, and in its favour, it's gorgeous, the camera's great, and the flash is very powerful!!

And is anyone still wondering why the iphone gets so much hype, and WM devices get ... well, none really (apart from sites like Modaco of course!)

TBH the Omnia was never the one for me anyway, but I'm begining to think I want an iphone - just for the simplicity and reliability. I want a device that just works, not one which works one day and not the next. Cramming all the features in doesn't make up for flaky hardware/software.

I'm going to wash my mouth out now.

Yeah, I like this stuff.

I keep meaning to "fix" the reminder time for birthdays to be something sensible - rather than midnight! I want to know a few days in advance, and at a reasonable time of day (just before lunch would be good so I can get a card/present)

Now you've reminded me I might just get around to doing it!

Dale Lane made a Pocket Outlook menu option to do this, called IcontextMenu

Never used it, but if you have an Exchange account you can get free Push Email without any middle-ware
Even if you don't you can set polling of a normal POP mailbox anyway, so why bother?

Welcome!

The Verizon Dare is not a Windows Mobile device, so I doubt we can help you much (unless another member happens to have one).

The current setup is for syncing Outlook via a VPN thru to the MD's home ADSL router which then has an IPSec tunnel thru to the work's server.

Cripes! Doesn't like it simple then I guess.

If he has good AV on the email server (Exchange?) then the risk is probably very small, no?
You could email an infected file to somebody, but it would get trapped.
You could move (using ActiveSync) an infected file, but again it would get trapped.

When I was a BOFH we worked on the "I'm alright, Jack" principle. If our protection was good enough our data was safe, and we weren't spreading stuff that would cause others a problem.

The greatest risk is to the device itself, and I don't know of any genuine infections of WM devices. Ever. What was this Chinese thing?

I have never seen a good "Manager Speak" article on the issue, which I put down to not being able to disprove a negative.

Welcome to Modaco pauly99

Option 1 from This should be the answer you need.

If you don't already have one you'll need a registry editor (not sure what comes with the BJ2). Don't be nervous about it as it's not that easy to stuff things up permanently (but then, don't be too gung-ho either!)

I used 3.28 on my Vodafone branded device, and installed TLRs ROM
Nerve-wracking, but worked perfectly first time.

Read the guide a few times, and don't start if there is anything you still don't understand.

ActiveSync should take you to the My Documents folder automatically, and your photos are (probably) in the sub-folder called "My Pictures"
Can you see the files when you use the File Explorer on your device?

I'm not really sure what your app does!
It looks like it guesstimates your location and displayes it on your Today screen.

I want an application that records signal strength (as a %) and network as I travel around, does it do that?

I've not used TBird, so bear that in mind...

First off, this isn't related to "Push" email by the sounds of it - you're using POP3 or IMAP I suspect, which would be polling periodically.

If that is the case then you should set both TBird and your MDA to leave a copy of the messages on the server - that way, which ever connects, they should both get to download the same emails.

I don't have a POP3 account setup ATM, so I cant tell you exactly where the setting is.

I think the things you are comparing are different - a "content" update, and an version update.
That said, you are right in some ways. Even using AppToDate there is currently no automated, unattended process for looking for version updates.

The App Store indicator is an interesting example of "progress" though. To get your app into the Store don't you have to pay Apple 40% of your sales revenue? And the Apple "rules" say that apps should close after 5 minutes of being inactive.

To get the MS stamp of approval an app should not have an "Exit" option, but this is something users want and so developers include. This means they don't bother with the Certified For... and develop and release through channels of their choice.

When iPhone development has matured will the same thing happen? I think it likely/inevitable that the nice, clean and tidy situation today will be watered down over time. Then the App Store indicator becomes only a partial solution.

I must admit to having an irrational dislike for the iPhone. I've used one, and really liked the ease of use. I wasn't sold on the UI (too little information on each screen), but I could probably live with it if I had to. The fact is though, that (because of the hype) I can't imagine ever buying one. I'm not a WM fanboy, I'm looking at Symbian for my next device, but the iPhone does nothing positive for/to me.

All that aside, by starting from a blank sheet of paper (but with the hindsight of many years of other smartphone developments), Apple have leap-frogged over WM in many respects.

I'm not convinced MS care enough about the platform to turn things around. Producing a mobile version of a browser known to be "problematic", years after it's sell by date, doesn't inspire me - and this is just one aspect of the platform.

TLR's WM6.1, but I think this was happening before I changed from the Vodafone WM6.0 one it came with.
I have vague recollections of this happening on my Touch before that, but I can't be sure enough to rule out the device.

The worrying thing is that I might not notice next time.

I'll try some tests to see if I can figure out what the circumstances are, but what then? that won't actually fix the problem

I'm sorely tempted to eBay the Tytn II (only had it a few weeks! gutted) and get the E71 - I've still got the Touch (albeit with a slightly scuffed screen) if I cant get on with S60.

No, it's hosted by Sherweb.

The problem is I doubt I will ever get to the bottom of it - It's intermittent and could be the handset, the data connection, activesync, the exchange service, some other application, or even me!

If I hadn't noticed it that "missing" appointment would have cost me £250 and loads of hassle.

BTW I found the best price for E71's is £288 here. The one (fairly big) issue for me is that Mail For Exchange on Nokia's doesn't sync subfolders in your Inbox - RoadSync does, but costs $50 and might have reliability issues (sounds familiar)

As it turns out I'm not! so there! ner ner! wink.gif

It did it again this morning -
I created an appointment when I was in 3G coverage.
Checked the appt time when I got home (no coverage initially) and it was gone.
Created it again
Checked it again later (GPRS coverage) and it was gone again!
Created it again

No calls were made or received at or near the time I created it, so it can't be CallHistory at fault.

It's just weird, and one of the little annoyances of WM that have been bugging me more and more lately - the most important functionality to me has become, very ccassionally, unreliable - so now I don't feel like I can fully trust it.

/looks up the price of an E71

OK, I've followed the story, but know nothing about what benefits this might actually give me.

Will it improve the performance of CoPilot screen refreshes (anyone know?) or general Windows screen updates (it suggests not in their blurb).

So other than seeing the spinning tube, what will it do for me as a non-video watcher? If there's a basic performance boost for Windows and/or 3rd party apps I'll take it.

At the risk of sounding like Jackass from msmoblies.com I saw this and had a little smug moment all to myself, so I thought I'd share...

QUOTE
It's not uncommon to fire up a new app and have the phone kick you right out of it back to the home screen. I've even had the phone reboot itself a couple of times.

QUOTE
This tells me that what we're seeing is that the iPhone gets unstable when it starts running out of memory, and it's pretty recreatable a situation. So maybe it's not the apps from the App Store so much as the way the iPhone handles memory.

QUOTE
We've long groused at Microsoft that when you click the red X to close a program in Windows Mobile that the app doesn't in fact close, it just goes into the background. While I'm no expert on the iPhone my observations is it appears to be working the same way.

Source

So everyone, chip in $1 to the Disasters Emergency Committee appeal to buy iPhone users everywhere an X button. tongue.gif
