Hello - my return from 1 year in the wilderness...

I currently have an SPV M5000 - which I am happy with (I have had approx 1 year)

I haven't been excited enough to upgrade my phone to anything else......

BUT the service plan I am on is far too expensive.... so I need to change it now, and if I change my service plan I should change my phone (or be stuck with M5000 for another year, before I can upgrade)

So.... I have identified the service plan I want to move to.....

But what phone??? Unfortunately (Fortunately??) It needs to be available on Orange.

I want to retain the functionality of my M5000 but I want to use its replacement as my main phone - so it needs to be small and practical (so many people stare at me on the train with a M5000 glued to my ear!! :-) )

Can anyone help? Any suggestions? Should I wait for something just around the corner? Is there something out there that fits my criteria?? (Small, big functionality - similar to PPC, and available on Orange)

My dream phone :- WIFI, FM Radio, PPC functionality, SD, Nokia 6230 size'ish (Bigger screen??), Internet Browser, basic camera.

I want to listen to music, browse the internet, sync my contacts.

Thanks.

A day or mourning......

My Wildfire has ceased to be today.

Why oh Why Orange? Was it too expensive to maintain?

Now to research a new way of voice dialing via a Bluetooth headset to my PPC........

Really bad news. This was the only way I could use my PPC for voice dialing.

Crazy! At what cost to Orange to keep the service online?

*oops I should not I meant voice dialing via bluetooth.

And I haven't received any alternative incentive.....

Well after my original phone developed a fault (ok so I cracked the screen!!)

My replacement had an inferior ROM.

Bluetooth no longer worked correctly (I use an I-Tech clip headset)

After a many hours of complaint to Orange Customer services, I think I finally have got through to them that there are indeed in exsistence different ROMS for the M2000.

They have escalated my call and I should have a response in 5 days (geez if that is escalation!!)

My original Rom was:-

Operator 5.31.1.124
ROM 1.31.00 WWE
ROM Date 12/13/04
Radio 1.06.02
Protocol 1337.38
ExtROM 1.31.124 WWE
BT: Build 3500

My replacement Rom was:

Operator: 5.12.1.139
Rom: 1.12.22 wwe
Rom date: 09/27/04
Radio: 1.04.00
Protocol 1337.35
EXT rom: 1.12.139 wwe
BT c1.0.0. build 2200

Becomes apparent why my BT does not work!!

I obviously couldnt wait for Orange, so xda-developers.com to the rescue.....

My spec is now:-

Operator 5.31.1.124
ROM 1.31.00 WWE
ROM Date 12/13/04
Radio 1.08.00
Protocol 1337.38
ExtROM 1.31.124 WWE
BT: Build 3900 (After patch)

And guess what... My BT works perfectly. (It was actually the ROM build that seemed to make the difference not just the BT build)

Let's see what Orange come back with......

Hmmm, you wouldn't have happened to return that to Orange would you?

I recieved one in identical condition, as a "replacement" phone yesterday.... also with inferior bluetooth build...

Where do I stand with Orange?

So frustrating - I want to initiate calls through bluetooth.

I really think this would be a "killer" application, does anyone know if this is being worked on?

(Sorry if a little off-topic)

I too am very interested in this.

I have tried both Fonix and Vito Voicedialer with negative results using an I-Tech bluetooth set.

I do however have a workaround - not elegant though!!

I have Wildfire active on my Orange account - I leave orange answer phone as my last dialled number on my M2000, then use the bluetooth button on the I-Tech (two rapid button clicks) this redials my last number.

I then am connected to widfire and can dial my contacts using voice.

Not too sure of the costs involved.....

But it works.

Well for those people interested - I got round it by soft resetting the phone (It became clear to me that all my settings were in fact correct)

Guess the GPRS modem had hung or something.

Not too sure this is a good sign.

Two days, and two problems......

OK, so I was very lucky to come out of contract 10 Feb - walk into a Birmingham Orange store and pick up a M2000 on upgrade.

However... my luck did not last (please no cheering)

I appear to have lost all my GPRS settings for "orange world"

Can not connect to internet via GPRS / WAP / CSD - (Can connect using wi-fi)

When try to connect I get the connecting bubble then "No modem at above number ........"

Has anyone got the correct setting for me?

I believe accessed by start/settings/connections then "manage exsisting connections"

Please help!!

Don't know is this has already been posted, but looks like the SPV M1000 is now available to all customers (not just business)

Hmmm, any progress on this?

I have VNC working on my home network (laptop connected via wireless to Netgear server)

I can use a normal VNC connection either using a "Viewer" or HTTP from a remote PC.

So I know my connections are correct on my LAN side etc.

As many of the above state, when I try to activate SmartVNC it just returns to my programme menu - I have previously activated a GPRS session with IE.

Can't see an option, guess I am blind.

Can someone point me in the right direction (I have searched the forum)

Yep the green flashing light does tell you that you have a signal.

Try is by turning radio off. Then no flashing green light.

I have missed my tram stop twice since playing (seperate days) it is addictive.

That certainly is a cryptic clue.

Visualize snakes and ladders!! (ladder on the right)

I am stuck on level 12!! I would welcome any cryptic clues.

With all due respect, are you reading a different article. Or adding a pinch of fiction between the lines.

That article tells you nothing in my opinion. I would prefer to wait for some facts.

Regarding the manufacturing spec of SPV by HTC, I have had quality problems regarding screen granted, but I have heard of only two instances posted on this site regarding inferior plastics.

(Initial launch bugs I will agree with anyone about!)

It shows the "Double pointers" even if you are connected by GPRS ,they show that there is a transfer of data using the modem, not what method you are connected by.
