For those of you that own the S620/Dash thinking of moving to the newer model (S630/Cavalier), I thought I would share my initial thoughts about the move as being one that has gone through that process.

I used the Dash for about 60 days (back several months ago) with WM5 only (never had the WM6 upgrade on it at the time). I've had quite a few phones (both smartphones and PPC-based devices) and considered the DASH the best phone I ever had. For reference sake, I have also used; KJam, TyTN, P4350, Vox, HP6945. I just gave up the Vox and moved to an S630 and have been using for just the past 4 days.

I was initially a little concerned about battery life given the processor speed inrease (400Mhz vs 200Mhz in the Dash...).

My initial impressions after the frist 4 days?

It is now my favorite phone ever.

Pros:

- Same fantastic screen as the Dash (or appears to be)
- Fast
- Fast
- FAST!
- Did I say FAST?
- Feels lighter for some reason (than the Dash)

Cons: (if one is being picky...)

- Doesn't have the rubberized feel of the Dash - feels less solid in a way and 'cheaper' - thus possibly giving it the "lighter" feel weight wise (not sure if it is actually lighter though...)
- Ever so slightly larger than the Dash (but not much at all)

As for the battery life?

I'm ecstatic that I am not seeing any difference at all between the two devices. Let me clarify... I'm a very heavy data user but don't use a lot of voice (maybe 100 minutes a month...). I do a ton of email, web browsing, and local application usage on the device though. I sync 1 exchange account (with all messages and attachments all the time...) and 1 imap account (every 5 minutes). With the Dash, I would typically run the battery down to about 20-30% left by the end of each day and would recharge by habit each night. I was concerned with the S630 that I wouldn't be able to make it through the day. The reality has been that I am seeing the exact same profile but I'm able to do it all a lot faster than on the Dash.

Oh, another important point. While the S630 does have 3G support, I'm not in an area that has 3G connectivity (unfortunatley) so I'm only using Edge in both situations (and occassional wifi - maybe about 20-30 minutes a day on average).

My initial impressions are very positive with the device.

I've just bought HP Ipaq 514 (510 series) and I wonder if somebody found a solution to following issues:

 - I cannot set the VoIP client to connect to my SIP VoIP provider. There is no documentation or error messages around this, it just says "No service" for whatever I try. Is there some diagnostics?

have you used the HP Setup Assistant? There you configure the VOIP Settings. I works on mine with voipbuster. But it only works when Wifi connection is active.

 - Is there a soft which can reassign HW buttons to some useful apps?

 - Is there a way to let the WiFi auto-connect every once a while? (There is a pretty convenient timeout to switch off WiFi when there is no netowrk for some time, but I want the phone to periodically switch it on for a while to check if Iam within the range again)

it does that when wifi is enabled. everytime you press any key the wifi searches again.

Is there going to be a separate forum for those of us with the Cavalier or is this going to be it given it is a variant of the Excalibur?

the solution is to play with this file : \Windows\eT9.Excalibur.0409.kmap.txt
you have to use a texteditor and to save the file as UNICODE (i use notepad). You will find how to modify this file on the file itself. here is the file for an AZERTY keyboard...
So now i am very happy with my english rom : i have used the paul's package to have my french xt9 and my tweak for the keyboard

I have the new TMo WM6 upgrade on my Dash...

Overall, I believe it is more snappy, and has never looked better. It's really not all that different than WM5 in appearance, until you get to the mail, which is all new, and PIE is improved as well. You can now view html formatted mail, which is nice.

For those that use their device for an mp3 player, you will really like the media player plugin for the home screen, which is actually pretty cool.

I also notice better support for downloading of files, internet connectivity, bluetooth... And it's much easier to pair devices.

ActiveSync seems much slower now, expecially on the initial sync.... Took forever to get all my contacts back in.

Just 1 small issue I am battling:
Every time I restart, it resets my home screen back to the default. why? (I prefer W411y Q-Icons)
If anyone has solutions to the above problems, please reply.

Compatibility:
Touch bar mods - appear to work fine
tcpmp - works great, and appears to play smoother
Google Maps - works even better
AmpTweaks - most of the settings work
TMoMail - Not included, but can be installed... Appears to work.
AutoKeyLock - installed, but I have not configured and tested yet.

Seems as though the phone is more efficient somehow...

I have noticed that messenger merges your im contacts into your phone, complete with icons, which is sorta cool, if you don't mind the clutter in your phone book.

Windows Update is in there under settings... So you can have it download updates. Is this a good thing, or not?

Media player supports ratings and album covers, if you have the folder.jpg files on your phone. That's sorta cool!

You can save attachments from e-mails now. It's about time!

Will it lock the phone to T-mobile? I am using a HTC 620 Excalibur version with no branding

Yeah the official release is there. Follow the simple instructions and download it. It runs great on my t-mobile dash. Even corrects the contacts search and the battery is greatly improved over the Beta version.

Will the Update be available for the MDA Mail too ?

OK, so I got rid of the pop up that comes up right after a message is sent but why I have to get the text message that says it was delivered is beyond me. Is there anyway to stop that thing on T-mobile??

Is it possible the lack of this ability is generally acecpted? I'm coming off an MDA and knew there is no touch screen on the Dash but being able to select multiple emails in the Inbox to delete? ... really have to do one at a time?

Also, can't selct text in an email, like a phone number to paste into a new contact? ... or a email address to save in an exixting contact?

Are these capabilities not basically fundamental or am I missing something?

Tried xBar 3.2 on my Dash; took my money for nothing ... xBar doesn't work .... goes through the motions but doesn't paste the text.

Tried Vito Cut and Paste, also doesn't work. Klugy, Action is enter, never pastes, just doesn't do it.

Please straighten me out here ... are you all actually writing things down from one screen and retyping it in another???? Can not be!
