Veggycar: Why don't you reinstall without formatting the harddrive and allow OSX to archive the previous installation. You should be able to get at your work that way, then delete the archived installation when you've finished. Assuming there's enough harddrive space left on the 4221 to allow this of course. |

After more hunting and reading reviews etc the Olympus 520 has caught my eye with the four thirds lens mount system. This could save me money as such as technically the focal length of lenses are doubled compared to a standard 35mm, so a 100 macro technically becomes 200. Technically its the field of view that changes, not the focal length. My boss did a comparison between his full frame canon film camera and his 30D a few weeks ago using identical lenses on each. What he saw through the view finder on each did not make the subject seem larger or smaller in either camera, the real difference was that with the full frame camera he was able to see more at the edges of the scene. Of course printing out the images on the same size paper makes it look as if there is more telephoto magnification from the 1.6x 30D sensor, but the same effect can be achieved by enlarging the centre portion of the full frame image before printing. |

That isn't cheating. You're not paying tax on that. On the UK price, we are @ 17.5%. Add 17.5% to the Hong Kong price....£347 ish..... so we are getting it cheaper before added VAT with the £299 including tax offer. How is complying with the tax laws in a country cheating people off exactly? The standard retail price in Hong Kong is lower as you pay no tax!.....so the UK 'discount' price before tax is cheaper than HK @ £256 ish or about 4,000 HKD. Please check your facts before accusing people of 'cheating'. M.S How about a few other european countries that expansys sell in Germany = €519,95 + £50 Cash back (sales tax =19%) total pre-tax price (Actual sale price - VAT - £50)= £295 Spain = €504,95 + £50 Cash back (Sales Tax = 16%) Total pre tax price (Actual sale price - VAT - £50)= £293.74 Italy = €504,95 + £50 Cash back (Sales Tax = 20%) Total pre tax price (Actual sale price - VAT - £50)= £295.44 France = €519,95 no Cash back (Sales Tax = 19.6%) Total pre tax price (Actual sale price - VAT - 0)= £343.29 Looks like the UK is getting a good deal for once (and for some reason the French are getting screwed over) |

yeah, that $199.99 price is awesome...but what about that extra $10 just for the DATA? $30 bucks...over 2-year's time, that adds to a whopping $720 bucks, JUST FOR DATA! Add in the price of your actual plan, and were talkin THOUSANDS here. But hey, I still may get one. -hagie92 That's something you need to take up with AT&T, the jump to 3G in the UK is not an additional extra as standard, do AT&T charge extra for 3G (as opposed to EDGE) data plans with other phones? EDIT: Just read an article on Macworld which would seem to suggest that all 3G phones on AT&T get hit for $30 a month, so there goes the justification for that complaint. Why would they give out data plans on a iPhone that are better than for their other 3G phones? EDIT2: Just verifying on the AT&T website that other phones do actually have the $30 a month charge and it would appear that they do, looking at the tilt package and deals page it would appear that you can't even buy one without the data plan! Seems to be a strange way of doing business, coming from a country that will allow you to pay for GPRS/3G data on an as you use it basis if you don't think you'll need very much. |

But my proof and examples were rubbish! The iPhone has a capacitive screen, and can't be used with things that don't carry some form of electrical charge (ie normal stylii). Yeah, that bit was right. I only know about the tablet pc screens because of some research I was doing on them and touchscreen pcs for work, can't tell you the number of times I tried tapping the tablet pc screens with my finger and wondered why nothing was happening. |

AFAIK, a capacitive screen can be used with a stylus, but the stylus needs to be far more complex, and is therefore larger, and a lot more expensive... Some tablet PCs have capacitive screens, and the stylii are £50 or so, whereas the piece of metal for normal stylii is at most £1! Tablet PCs do not use capacitive screens, they have an active digitiser (think of a the way a Wacom graphics tablet works) which will work only with the supplied stylus. The mouse pointer is moved about by holding the tip of the stylus slightly above the screen and the screen senses the presence of the stylus. Their main advantage is than you can rest your hand on the screen when using it. Their big disadvantage is that if you loose the stylus the touchscreen part is useless. Some tablet pc manufacturers include both active and capacitive elements to their screens which are switched either automatically or by a button which gives you the best of both worlds, but when you use the stylus it is only the active digitiser part of the screen that you are using. |

Am I missing the point here? If you are (or were thinking of becoming) a BT Broadband customer you can now get a free WM smartphone with 50 min xnet and 50 texts, free wifi and 10MB data (useful for checking the odd email here and there) for a fiver? There's even going to be an unlimited data option after the end of June but no mention of how much it will cost. Where's the problem in that, leaving aside the small GPRS data allowance where can you get a better deal than that? |

Chances are that you will find that downloading the messenger app., or a full rom, won't do you any good. Messenger uses a specific port(s) to sent and receive on so O can either block or monitor the port and you'll either not be able to use it or they'll charge you anyway. |

Erm surely its just best to maintain the speed limit along the "Average Speed Section" ? That is unless you are thinking of tanking along at 200mph, and then coming to a halt for five minutes just before the end camera for 5 minutes to allow your avg speed to come back down!. Or perhaps I'm totally missing the point on this one. Its sometimes easy to drift over the limit for a bit until you realise, one section of road that I drive to work on in the morning has just had average speed cameras fitted in a forty zone, but for most of it the "natural" speed limit is probably more like 50-60 as its dual carriageway with no pedestrians ever around. Keeping to the forty if you're not really concentrating can be difficult. A little reminder of what your average speed has been since entering the camera zone, with possibly an alarm going of if you are going over the limit would be a great benefit. |

How are you getting on with this ? maybe just a start/stop button for kicking off the Average speed display ? Wouldn't it just be easiest to have an always on average speed and have a reset button for it, a bit like the way a trip computer works? It could even be automated by having the reset kick in after every average speed camera entry point is passed. |

the kaiser has a geotag mode for pics from it's own camera, otherwise you can use HTC GPS tool (from XDA Developers) to get the raw coordinates. The best way to do it is snap a low quality geotagged pic on your kaiser of the same subject you are taking on you proper camera, then you can match up your locations to your "real" pictures back home. I'm sure you'll have realised this, but try to stick with something that gives you a 50mm equivalent on your camera, there's no point goetagging if you're using a 500mm telephoto lens to take pictures of subjects half a mile away. |

My brother had an old Ericson phone (before it became Sony Ericson that is) which he managed to drop into deep wet concrete; a few years later however when that said concrete was being taken back up again, he was able to retrieve his phone (chipping it out of its stoney grave!) and - amazingly - it still worked after a charge! You were about 26 days too late for a story like that one |

Hi I have T-mobile Touch Plus on Flext 25 + web'n'walk. Should I be able to get HSDPA download speeds and notification Icon? I seem to be getting down load speeds of 150 - 190 kbit/sec and the elusive H has yet to appear. I was expecting speeds nearer the 1000 kbit/sec mark. I have seen conflicting reports about availabilty of HSDPA on standard web'n'walk packages and wondered whether I needed to do something to get this to work on my Touch Plus. The T-mobile website has no information that I can find about availability or enabling of HSDPA. Rob Depends on when you started your web'n'walk contract, before about november last year (I think) and you should be able to phone up CS and ask for HSDPA to be switched on for your account. If you signed up for it after november you will need to upgrade from standard to plus for your web'n'walk package, although if you call CS you might get lucky and get them to switch it on for you anyway. You can check if its enabled on your acount in your "My T-Mobile" page online. |

Something that someone may be able to do, but I can't find the right bits in the registry, is to change the PIE user Agent string. I like to be able to do this to get my Vario III and MDA Pro to report themselves as an iPhone for one reason only, to get proper access to www.textonphone.com when I'm not using my iPhone. If you don't have an iPhone and have never heard of textonphone then fire up firefox, install useragent switcher and configure it to report as an iPhone with the following user agent string. CODE Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU like Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/420+ (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0 Mobile/1A543a Safari/419.3 Textonphone is one of the best online repositories of free to access ebooks I've come across, problem is that it will only let iPhones or iPod Touchs access them, you can even cache quite a few pages ahead if you are going to be out of wifi or edge (and 3G if this user agent faking is possible on WM) reach for a while. |

I had recieved this email too, and now by posting it here on the forum you have reduced both your's and my chances of winning, well done Well, since I got the email about three or four days ago and I haven't even used Palringo for about three or four months since getting an iPhone I don't think there's much chance of anyone who registered on their site not getting one. Would fill out the survey but I couldn't really answer truthfully and get all the way to the end of it. |

Have you checked to see if there are any locale settings in the Linux setups that you can adjust for the wireless setup? Channel 13 is legal to use in the UK but not in the states (only goes to channel 11 if I recall correctly). Its possible that Xandros and eebuntu think you are in the US and just won't attempt to use Channel 13 at all. |

For music I have a Motorokr S9 headset which has decent volume and a nice fit (when you use the right earpieces) without any wires at all. For voice I use a nextlink Invisio G5 which is just about as small and unobtrusive that a headset can be, an overnight charge of the headset in its carrying case lasts me for about 6-8 weeks of very light use as I only use it when driving. |
