Sorry i meant WPA! I will be getting a new Router tomorrow as i realy need a new one anyway, the old Linksys is getting bit long in the tooth and could be the source of the problem. If that doesnt work, ill have to think again about getting it replaced or just getting rid. Cheers for your help. One other thing I'd throw into the mix is to make sure that your passphrase is alphanumeric. Special characters can really cause issues in the WiFi world! |

i have a freeware launcher for on my Today screen called cLaunch. I cant for the life of me find a .lnk file in the Windows directory that will let me have a soft rest option as an icon within cLaunch. The idea of this is so that i can reboot the unit without taking it out of the Brodit car holder, faffing about with the rear cover, dropping the stylus in my lap, nearly crashing the car, knocking the stylus on the floor, dropping the now completely detached rear cover, looking for a Bic biro, finding out it wont fit in the hole... (you get my point i hope!!) Does anyone know of a filepath (or any other method) that would let me soft reset from the Today screen? i dont want to have to buy anything to do this... (skinflint that i am thanks all! you need PShutXP free and will do what you want! |

Can the Touch Dual last 24 hours with push email turned on (receiving 5 - 10 emails per hour)? I am thinking of getting one as a replacement for a Blackberry but it will need to be able to last at least that long. it certainly can with just push email you should easily last a day. |

A friend of mine bought a dual on my advice, and her battery life is shocking, not even two days To the guys that have had theirs a while now what are you getting from yours? in the meantime I've switched it to 2G only which will hopefully help a bit Cheers I get just over a day with Direct Push, BT on, 3-4 calls, checking three other POP3 accounts and listening to music for around an hour and GPS on the way home. Bottom line is that BT seems to hammer the device. HSDPA is switched on the Touch Plus's by default and you have to find a copy of HSDPASwitch.exe to disable it and that can also hammer the device. There are tweaks on devs here that can help too. |

A month on from my last post I'm glad to report that the slider hasn't got any looser. To be honest, I haven't given it much thought since so I wouldn't class this as a "negative story" Has anyone compared the Dual to other sliders? My partner's Samsung G800 waggles more than the Dual and Samsung are experts in the slider market. I really think that people look for issues sometimes and us PDA geeks rarely use sliders so maybe this is normal for a slider? |

Haha! I think - ASIDE FROM LACK OF WIFI / GPS - it probably is! P I have to agree. WiFi isn't important (To me), I have a keychain BT GPS unit, bought a signal booster for £1 to up my signal at home and have applied the battery savings tweaks from XDA-Devs. It beats the Kaiser for me, although the Kaiser is still my work device. |

The issue that I find is that 3 simply don't have the customer services/sales knowledge to make this sevrice work. I now have bought the £10 per month option on a business tarrif and it's far more difficult than it would be if I was a consumer. Technical services are an 0870 number and the data tracking software is pants. Having said that, the service does work - but methinks it's ripe for a takeover. |

Ok I've been playing with the phone the whole day putting all the software I like on it. the reinforced touch screen is very very good you have to tap a bit harder still getting used to it but its very good. the ram makes such c difference I have everything I could possibly want to run totalling 12 apps running and pocket plus phone suite mobile shell among other today plugins in fact I don't normally need all that running and I still have 40 mb left of ram! plus everything runs very smoothly. ... build quality is good much better than the vario 2 and the feel of the device is excellent. a personal plus for me is that the leds are more muted or not as bright and don't light up the room when I go to sleep. the camera is actually a lot better than the vario 2 which suprised me a lot considering they are both 2 mp. anyway that's it for now if you have specific questions post here. Jeremy Sound like the experience I have had, there's a slight waggle on the X-axis but apart from that it's rock solid. Have you tried installing Coreplayer 1.1.3 yet? I found that it speeds the device up a bit (Could be my imagination though!) |

Thanks guys for the advice - Im going to have to get my PAC code so will try again with retentions. In the meantime - Another phone has caught my eye, its just released on o2 as the XDA Orbit 2 from O2 (aka HTC Touch Cruise). O2 have done a good job in the looks department and they are offering me £35 (inc 'unlimited' web bolt on - yes really unlimited!)... check it out: http://shop.o2.co.uk/phone/O2/Xda%20Orbit%202 So my dilema now is the Cruise or the Dual? Dual Pros: Has a keyboard Dual Cons: No Wifi or GPS Cruise Pros: Has Wifi and GPS Cruise Cons: No Keyboard Otherwise the phone specs are identical (!) Ive still got some days to consider...Jeremy let us have your thought on the phone after you receive it on Saturday Well 4Winmobile have reviewed the Orbit 2 now. To me, it depends what you want/need. The Dual without a decent data package is a waste of time IMHO due to the lack of WiFi (Luckily I have decent data package). I'm now being cajoled into doing a review of the Touch Plus for 4Winmobile so will expect to have it done within the next two weeks. To me, however, I'd say if you want a phone rather than a communication device, and have a good data plan, go for the Plus/Dual due to the size; if having GPS is more important or you have a poor data plan then look towards the Orbit 2/Cruise. |

don't bother talking to the normal CS lot. Go straight through to the retentions team asking for your pac code. Then when they offer you the what do want to stay spiel say about the orange offer and ask if they can match. (orange offer is free phone and free data for 35 quid a month 600 mins unlimited texts on dolphin) (only 30 mb though but don't mention that) Thats what i did no problems matched first time free phone on flext 30 and wnw no insurance Plus my existing £5 off a month total cost 32.50 a month and i hardly ever get above my inclusive allowance if ever. Arrives Saturday. If fact he agreed so fast I should have asked for more. I didn't even need to bargain which is why I'm thinking i could have gotten more. Try again it does work. Mine worked on 1st try Jeremy I agree, when I said phone to leave I meant take the option to leave T-Mobile, as for your PAC straight away and that sets the tone for the rest of conversation....! |

My 18month contract ends 25Feb so I thought Id ring TMobile and get an upgrade to the Touch Plus (been waiting for it for ages). They said the phone is available and I am eligble to upgrade. ... Only reason I ever wanted to stay with TMobile is due to the Web'nWalk tariff (1GB per month). The only other operator offering a decent data plan is '3' but they dont have this handset.... Not Impressed Phone to leave and the muppet on C/S who's obviously having a bad day will be a bad dream! Stay calm though! |

Your right we are going round in circles and again just because modacos review was just as poor and misleading as others is no excuse for it. Maybe you should avoid pre production reviews in future. Tell you what, try writing your own reviews rather than simply sneer and then you might understand how difficult it actually is. You have contributed nothing but flame others and you have around 20 posts, congrats as you're complaining against a guy that is a gadget geek and provides reviews of WHAT HE BUYS. No you may not agree with what he says, but that is your perogative, running a site like this needs fresh information and if you actually took the time to look at the devices he reviews, they are mainly one's he's bought so get a grip and quit whining! Last I heard Paul HAS A VARIO III which is a release unit and still feels his points are valid. I don't live here as you can see from my sig, so have no reason to stick up for him, but Paul does not deserve baseless diatribe from trolls like you who can't be bothered listen to another's point of view. If you want an iPhone then great, if you hate the TyTNII then fine, but stop slagging off people without a basis for it. |

You need to be careful here. The Sales of Goods Act only covers goods not fit for purpose (section 48), and gives the consumer certain rights to rectify it under the statutary 12 month warranty. "Reasonable time" frames is as far as the Act goes (as it should) and i would interpret it as that time being in relation to sellers of similar goods, not retailers in general. There is no mention at all of the right to return "should you not like it" (that i can see, happy to be proven wrong!). Only section 34 states you have the right, again, to a reasonable time to inspect the goods, and then reject them if the are unfit (the contract of sale is not complete until you accept it). It's annoying, the sales of goods act gives consumers an enormous amount of power (bearing in mind it covers everything from you buying your morning newspaper to a car manufacturer buying 100 tonnes of steel...). However these powers can be significantly restricted by the retailer through the contract of sale. Joe Bloggs consumer doesn't necessarily realise this and carries on regardless. The only option you have as an informed customer in this case is to shop elsewhere... (NB: Note i can only speak as far as UK law goes The issue is that ALL contracts are subject to the Unfair Contract terms act 1977, whereby an agreed contract can have things taken out or inserted if it would be deemed that both parties didn't have the same level of understanding of contract law. Very few retailers understand their obligations, whether it be on contract law, the Data Protection Act or anything else; it's a fact of life. BTW, I agree with every review that praises the Kaiser the commens are warranted and justified IMHO. |

True, but the Sales of Goods Act also says the retailer should replace or refund goods should they develop a fault within a reasonable amount of time, and that it is the customer's perogative to opt to repair or to reject the goods in that period. For the vast majority of retailers in the UK, "reasonable time" is accepted as being 28 days. So eXpansys have suddenly gone from having one of the most generous returns policies to one of the most stringent. It would remain for a court to judge whether 10 days is reasonable, but in light of the industry norms, I would suspect not. You have six months under the Sale and Supply of Goods to Consumers Regulations 2002 which came into force in 2003, updates the Sale of Goods Act 1979, and states that if the goods do not conform to the contract of sale at the time of delivery then the defect will be deemed to have been present at the point of sale. The one caution here is that this worked in 2006 with the TyTN screen alignment issues (I asked Voda for an exchange - they refused and I asked for a statement on headed company stationary that they didn't recognise the Sale and Supply of Goods to Consumers Regulations 2002 - I won BTW). However, this case is now in the realm of did HTC provide a defective device? No they didn't (And spare me from the flames on this one), does the device take calls, can you use the GPS, WiFi and HSDPA etc? If you can show anywhere that HTC stated that they had provided a multimedia device that was faster than any other Samsung or Intel based chipset? The fact is that the OMAP processors aren't half as fast as the Qualcomm ones, WM5 is different to WM6 and WM2k3 is faster than both due to the use of different, slower memory to run from. An adversial approach will acheive nothing on this guys/gals, but trying to find out from HTC what can be done may prove to be a better bet. |

Actually, does anyone have benchmarks of the TYTNII vs other htc stuff like even the old Touch? If the cruise isn't going to the end-all then I may as well just get the plain Touch. I don't use 3G and the TYTN II already had battery issues, now it can't even tomtom well why would I want it? Extra ram for programs I can't run smoothly? Do you mean like this? |

Software wise, I really wouldnt be able to tell the difference considering I've been using a Nokia brick (62 something) for the last few months! Big difference from that definitely. I got it on an 18month deal, they dont seem to want to know you these days if you ask for a 12 month one. If its out of stock then thats one thing. If they're saying it hasnt even been released then they dont know what they're talking about. The issue is that different depts have different stock levels and release dates when a new device comes out. Experience tells me that it usually goes to retentions, new sales, then customer services. I'm looking to get a swap out through business support (Customer services) as a goodwill gesture, so that could be the issue. |

OK, have spoken to business support who can't see it. Then phoned the number in this thread and they eventually looked for the Plus when I said that I had a friend that got the Plus and she found it, said it was released and said it was out of stock. The saga continues.... |

Hi. I got the Flex 35 + Web and Walk, plus the promotional weekend offer and £5 off deal they've got at the moment. Basically for £32.50 a month I'm getting 900mins/1800texts, Web and Walk (pretty much unlimited net), and unlimited calls to any network every weekend. The touch plus handset was free. I tried to get them to throw freebies in, but they're werent having any of it. They gave me free delivery though. If its of any help to those struggling to get through to a t-mobile sales rep who knows about the touch plus, I called and ordered on monday between 5-6pm and spoke to a rep called Robert, he certainly knew about the touch plus and sold me one within minutes. It may be that it's available for new sales and/or upgrades only at present. But I'll try again today. Have you noticed anything new about the software levels? |

Ok, please please dont take my word as gospel. But I've called T-mobile twice today and both times they've told me the touch plus is available, and that they've had it from friday. Seems like the date I quoted earlier, 18th jan, was actually true just that some of their sales team were oblivious to this. I've ordered one now (they've also got pretty good offers on at the moment, £5 off and free unlimited weekend calls on top of flex + WnW). I should get it by 1pm. I'll post back on here in the wonderful event that I do receive my long awaited touch plus tomorrow! I'm just scared they're gonna send a regular touch or a touch 256 lol. If you guys want to give them a try, their number is 0845 41222 12 Good luck. I've just called T-Mobile and they have no stock or release date. Although the device is now showing on their 'available' list but no release date. |
