I really want one! But seeing as I'm not back in the UK for another 6 weeks I'm hoping prices will settle down a bit and it might even be out at a good price on one of the operators by the time I'm back...

I don't have an external DVD but I have an 8GB USB key - do you think I could put the Kalaway installer on this and install from the key instead?

Edit:
Or even from a 'regular' external hard drive?

QUOTE(theodotcom @ May 23 2008, 15:22) *
Hi

I've got the touch plus and have been using it for a couple of weeks, however i have a couple of questions which hopefully someone can answer.

1. On the HTC homescreen, how can i set the weather to update automatically, can't find any settings options like on my smartphone.

2. With my exchange email account i can set it to automatically send/recieve in only peak times only and have off peak as manual, is there any way to do this with my pop account email.

3. How can i set a profiles?

4. Is there anyway to have the email notification off but the text message notification on. I can only see one option for notifications which seems to cover everything.

Thanks in advance for any advice/help

1. You can't. There are some options to set it to update automatically but all this does it trigger it automatically to download when you click on the weather tab.
2. You can't. This is one of my annoyances with Windows Mobile.
3. You can't set custom profiles without a 3rd party tool. The only ones you have available are the ones you can see on the tab on the HTC Home screen.
4. Go to Start/Settings/Personal/Sounds & Notifications, click on the Notifications Tab then in the Event dropdown you should see Messaging: New e-mail message, Messaging: New Text message.

Hope that helps.

And I think the X1 has a 3.5mm headphone output whereas the Raphael doesn't. I think it's going to be the Raphael for me...

BTW, where's the info about the 1350mah battery coming from? I see it in the first post but I don't see it referenced anywhere else... blink.gif

Why not put XP on your M1330 then?

P

I've only got the restore disc for my old laptop, I'm assuming it won't work on my new Dell? I've got a 'cough cough' dodgy copy of XP Professional but I'm trying to go straight your honour. ;)

But to be honest I quite like the open source thing and the amount of software available. And OK I like tinkering too! My experience with Ubuntu as a first time Linux user was quite positive and I was surprised at how polished it felt and how smooth the install went.

Maybe I'll give it a go and document my experience here. Unfortunately I'm away on business in Sydney for a month from Friday (hard life I know!) but I'll give it a shot when I get back to London.

I bought a new laptop about 3 months ago, pretty good spec (Dell XPS M1330, 2.2Ghz Core2Duo, 2GB RAM) with Vista Home Premium. I had issues straight away with sleep/waking problems although to be fair that seems fixed now with SP1 (and a bluetooth hotfix). I find it just runs slowly. I like the look and feel of it but it just seems a bit laggy. It takes ages to boot, ages to go to sleep, then ages to wake up again. Vista always seem to be doing something, i.e. the processor/hard drive never seem to be completely idle. Recently I switched on my old laptop with XP and was surprised at how snappy it felt. I tried Ubuntu on the old laptop previously and liked it a lot but the lack of Windows Mobile syncing was the deciding factor unfortunately.

Maybe I'll try dual booting for a while or stick Mandriva on the old laptop to see how it performs.

Has anyone tried the latest version of Mandriva? (Mandriva 2008 Spring). Apparently it's got WM synching in it, see here: http://wiki.mandriva.com/en/2008.1_Synchronization

I've just about had it with Vista but the only thing holding me back from Linux was the lack of synching with my Touch Dual. If Mandriva works well then it could be bye bye Microsoft from me...

I'm thinking it might make a nice tool to watch videos on the way to work, then use in meetings with customers. Not at $500 though, maybe closer to £100 :-)

Therefore, does it play video well? And where does the sound come out??

Sorry, I don't know where i saw multi-touch. However I would rather have a case of under-promise and over-deliver than the converse. Previously I had no reason to believe the Raphael would have a motion sensor, now if it doesn't I would feel something is missing.

I just noticed multi-touch is mentioned here on Tracy and Matt:

I think it's probably a local legal requirement that you can't turn off the shutter sound - I've read about that somewhere else. Probably the only way to get round it is to flash a different ROM onto it, thereby voiding your warranty and with all the usual risks....

4. When I start up TomTom the first time, the sound is automatically muted about 9 out of ten times. I have to go into preferences and enable it twice (the first time it doesn't work) before it actually works. Is there any way around this?

This is a bug in TomTom. The sound is muted if you have an active GPRS connection while starting up TomTom. Version 6.02 upwards has this bug.

Mixture of both, 3.6 and 7.2Mbps HSDPA devices are starting to emerge and the networks are starting to catch up. Interestingly i've just switched from 3 to TMob, supposedly sharing 3G masts, and found TMob's coverage poorer than 3's :/

I think the 3G network sharing agreement was only just announced wasn't it? Maybe this time next year things might be slightly more integrated....

If I tap and hold on an image in Internet Explorer and hit 'Save Image' I get an error message - 'Error: Unable to save the file.'. I seem to get this on all webpages. Has anyone else seen this? I have a 20key unbranded EU version. Bit annoying because I like stealing images from Google Images and sending them as MMSs!

Cheers.

iPlayer, like 4od, does not use flash. It uses windows media, and is only available for use on full computers. You will not be able to view iPlayer or 4od content no a mobile device unless you illegally remove the digital rights management.

This is a limitation placed by the program producers, not the BBC/other network themselves.

Oh, and you still need a TV licence too afaik

I think you'll find that if you go on to the BBC iPlayer website now, they've put up a streaming solution which uses an in-browser Flash player.
