Hi, I have an SPV C600 and thinking about getting Route 66. I do alot of hike and general need to go to locatons in the middle of nowhere, is there a way of input National Grid ref's or Long and Lat? If not are there any driving applications that would allow me to do this? Any advise appreicated, Cheers No i doubt it would be suitable for hiking, it only supports roads see my post on route 66 major problems Try http://www.memory-map.co.uk/ it has free mobile software with it when you buy it |

Just to let you know the system sufferd a major crash again and casued major upset to my phone, The phone itself took several restarts to get it back together again and I lost all the self spellings in my SMS dictionary for some reason Route 66 will now not start up again even after after full reinstall. I have emailed route 66 requesting to return the product for a full refund. I think ill get myself a standalone tom tom unit when i can afford one and stick with a paper map from now on. Well im not entirely sure if it is the actual text messages that are doing it or some sort of general memory problem, but then again i have very little stored in the phones memory. I today was expeimenting with the house numbers, which seemed to work but whilst i was in the student union, 66 failed to start, ie crashed on the GPS screen (no gps paired) and aborted, I tried it later in quieter area and it worked. I got the WILD GUESS that it could have possibly been to do with the phone trying to pair with other Bluetooth devices in the union and hence crashing, so you could be right in making sure the GPS is on 1st (which I generally do) A list of things to Route 66 would be good, seems to work well on this forum. |

I'm not sure why the number of text messages should matter to it. I usually close all apps using Task Manager before powering up Route66 so maybe that's enough. I've cleared out my old texts so will report it it's made a difference. I don't think you can cancel the current navigation as such, but you may be able to just go to the 'plan a route' and just quickly put in home and office as source and destination and it may cancel the existing on. One solution may be to just switch off your GPS receiver so it doesn't receive a signal. Although i've not tested switching the GPS receiver on and off when running the program, as i've always made sure the gps receiver is on and paired before running the program. Maybe we should create a list of things and give Route66 some feedback, Well im not entirely sure if it is the actual text messages that are doing it or some sort of general memory problem, but then again i have very little stored in the phones memory. Yes you can put house numbers in. I don't think it works if you put a house number and a postcode, but it does if you put the house number with the street name. I have a few issues with my Route 66 on a C600 sometimes too. Namely it sometimes locks up on startup if I don't have my phone paired with the receiver. It also crashed out when choosing the departure location as "work", but the update seems to have sorted it. I also have a strange issue whereby speed cameras are not shown on the map, but red light cameras are. I've checked the CSV files that come with it in the "POI/BRITAIN" folder by importing them into Autoroute, and the cameras are shown. The file format is the same as the redlight camera csv file so I don't know what is up with it. It also doesn't seem to pull addresses out of Contacts in the right format too. The main BIGGEST annoyance with Route66 is the fact it doesn't show up in Task Manager, so if it crashes when only the home button works, you can't kill it off without restarting the phone. However, on the whole, when it works it seems to function fine. I don't how it will cope if I receive a call at the same time however. Looks like you had very simiar issues to me, check your messaging inbox (and deleted items) is not too full and make sure you restart the phone before use. I used to use task manager to clear all my oped applications instead of restarting the phone but reserting seems kinder to the phone. Not had an issue with the speed cameras but I noticed some speed cameras were not shown and others were (maybe just a new camera) Mine doesnt seem to recognise the contacts in the address book either, that looks like a bug. I have managed to recieve a call (over bluetooth headset) with the navigator still working, it resumed after the call ended, had to hit the back button till 66 reappeared, it pasued navigation whilst i was in a call so luckily my caller didnt here "at the roundabout take the 3rd exit" down the phone. Cant seem to get the house numbers working yet, will try properly later. Do you know if it is possible to cancel a navigation? |

I have route 66 mobile 7 WMS, i installed it on my Qtek 8500 without problem, works perfectly. I would get back onto route 66 support, simply because they list your phone as being fully compatible and tested with the software, mine isn't even listed and works perfectly. Well i did phone the support line and they basically said that i have a corrupt file somewhere and need to factory reset my phone and reinstall route 66 which i did, and it worked Couple of days later It stopped working again, no apprant reason, no major configuation changes to phone, called support back they told me to do exacly the same, which i ignored because its a pain. After messing about i discovered that it doesnt like too many text messages in the phone, so you have to make sure that they re cleared before you use them and the phone needs a restart before you can use route 66 Once this is done it seems to work fine. BTW, does it support use of house numbers as well or just postcodes? |

Does anyone have route 66 and can share experiences I have purchased the route 66 Mobile 7 WMS for my Orange SPV C600 and have been having continual problems since installation. My first problem I had was that I installed the software onto the memory card as per the instructions, the setup on the phone got as far as the map selection screen and then the whole programme abruptly exited. I called route 66 customer support and they said to install the update patch on the website, which I did, to the instructions but got exactly the same thing. I called them back and they told me to cold boot my phone (factory reset) which I did, the software installed and worked successfully even after reboots. Come to use it the following day the software wouldn’t start, just went to the 1st GPS screen then abruptly exited. I have not changed the configuration since then, Hope you can help me sort it out |

I have noticed that there are Bluetooth dongles avaliable now that work up to 20 metres, whereas my bluetooth dongle is 10. Could anyone tell me if the Orange SPV C600 is compatible with this range, and whether its worth upgrading my dongle to get a better range in my house, albiet limited anyway. |

I would like some help in choosing some GPS software for my smartphone. I have an Orange SPV C600 and got a GPS Bluetooth reciever for xmas, so far i have tried the free trial software availaible and none of them have really worked, or have been suited to my needs. I would like the following - In Car Navigation - Hiking Navigation (Maps not important) I dont mind paying a little bit for software but not a fortune, cos its only for occational use / toys I have seen some Tom Tom Mobile 5 software on ebay but im scared of being fobbed off / or wont work on my phone. Sorry if its a broad question but can anyone help? |

You shouldn't need a reg hack with the last couple of C600 ROM's. My phone regularly picked up E instead of G without the hack, in my last ROM and the latest one i'm running. Well I havent needed to either, I went out the other day to another town and picked up the E symbol very patchy coverage and mostly in the sticks but couldnt try it becasue i was moving. However for some reason I managed to be in Edge coverage last night in my home town (which is Orange 3G covered) and the data speeds were fantastic. Also emailed orange, they confirmed that there is no coverage map avaliable but said my phone would show an E when in coverage |

There's a reg tweak somewhere that allows you to set your device to show an E instead of the G when it connects to an EDGE enabled cell. About six months ago, I found EDGE intermittent around London and generally it was best where their 3g was poor. HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL dword: EnableDifferGprsEdgeIcon = 1 But this reg key was on already, so will have to investigate |

I am currenltly using Orange Mail for my email provision however due to increase in spam, low storage capacity, poor web user interface, and reduced need for text alerts I am considering changing. This post may seem a little off topic but becasue I want to use it with my Phone i would like to ask for help What I requre : Pop access - Mainly for mobile use where I send and recieve more urgent mail. Can be used for Outlook Outlook access - Main interface for my use of email Web access - Requred when Im away from my pc, but web access is increasingl looking to replace Outlook because you dont actuall have to sync as much (except to mobile) Sync - I need to be able to sync calendar and contacts over Outlook, Web and Phone Spam - I requre better protection than orange I have so far been looking at GMail, Yahoo and Hotmail, all provide pop/http links to outlook , Hotmail doesnt do POP for mobile but has a good wap interface which i could compromise with. None of them seem to allow sync, but Orange does |

T-Mobile seem to offer the best data rates at the moment, with good prices on the Vario II if you want a Pocket PC, but only limited Smartphones (and the tarrif's aren't bad) but check coverage! Unfortunatley although T Mobile a re very good customer services and tarrif wise, they dont meet my expections for coverage, theyve had years to sort it out and they havent. My plan now seems to be to stick with the C550 and move to PAYG but, what is the point when I could just upgrade to the C600, ok I dont think it would give me that many advantages over what I have now but I guess more refined with the Mobile 5 Version and would solve my problem with the occational 0 and # buttons not working. As I said I dont really want the hassle of changing networks, upgrading may be the simplest option. |

What about the M3100? it's the latest device as such just depends if you prefer a Smartphone or a PocketPC. And the price difference. I wouldnt mind a Pocket PC at all, its just the price becasue Im on quite a low tarrif, I did think about the older M series phones if they are still avalaible but then again im not sure. I have just called Orange, they want 29.99 for the c600, 100 for the M600 which is out of stock and 200 for the M3100 not good Im quite happy with Orange and my current tarrif so dont want to move, but then again If there are no upgrade options for me it looks like ill have to move to PAYG anyway. |

I am due for an uprage this Month and I am lost for Ideas what to do, I currenly have the SPV C550 and Im quite happy with the phone so ultimately I dont want to change to a dumbphone. I wanted the C700 but it looks like that isnt coming out, It doesnt seem that the C600 will be any benefit to what I have, I could get a PDA Smartphone Such as the M Series (even if its an older version). Will such a phone play MP3s as well as my current one does? Im not bothered about the media buttons on the front. I really want to keep my current tarrif as well but If im out of the contract I see PAYG being cheaper for me. |

QUOTE(fluffcat1 @ Mar 18 2006, 16:23) Take the front off and clean the rubber keys and fascia with soapy water well away from the phone - hopefully the goo won't have actually reached the circuitboard. See pinned topics in the hurricane section for instructions. Dry thouroughly before re-assembly.... Richard Well ive done it, didnt have any of the right tools, but it works now, 0 key still a bit funny though, didnt use water, just scraped the contacts |
