Had the same idea and got an N95, to sell on. I have decided to keep the N95 as the everything about it apart from the lack of qwerty and battery life are superb. Camera, video browser especially are all far better than any WinMo at the mo. So give the N95 a go for a few weeks and then sell it on. Depends of course how much they sting you for an upgrade. |

Hey kids Simple and yet utterly infuriating problem: I need to find a way to lock the handset and use media player at the same time, thus enabling me to use the phone in an "ipod" kinda way... Up to now, I've had no luck at all! Any thoughts? Cheers Alex The best way I have found is use Pocket Player as your media player and then in the settings you can lock the phone and switch off the screen but still keep the player control unlocked (play, pause, volume and track forward and back) You can download a free 30 day trial of Pocket player so give it a go and see what you think. Much better media player than WMP as well. Have fun. |

Conor, I've no idea about point 1, but as far as point 2 is concerned you need a copy of PhoneAlarm. In Settings - Profiles there is a yellow clock next to the profile drop down list. Clicking this allows you to schedule profile changes. I've got mine set up to swtich to Home at 8am and switch to Night at midnight. Does the trick for me. Thanks Chris I agree with Chris and of course you also get profiles which any £30 Nokia would have as well E |

I have a spv m600 which is similar to the vario, Tomtom nav 5 wont talk to my bluetooth gps device, its a holux 123, could you help me I apologise to the genius that posted this originally but I only have a copy for my own records. "First I had to install the GPS icon on the PDA in settings/connections using a freeware registry editor. STEP 1: ACTIVATE THE GPS CONTROL PANEL 1. Start up a registry editor 2. Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\GPS Settings 3. Delet the Dword in there and the value and replace them with: A new DWORD called "Group" and give it the value of "2" (dec) 4. And create a new string called "(default)" with no value (I think there was originally a string called redirect, rename this "(default)" if it's there 5. The GPS panel will now show up in your connection settings. (check it does) note: you may have to soft reset after each stage if it appears not to work straight away but i managed to make these changes then saved them soft reset and then went to control panel in settings and a GPS option was there. You'll need this for the next stage. Wait about 1 minute before doing the soft reset. STEP 2: Set up the GPS & Tomtom 1. Establish a bond with your GPS and select the checkbox for serial access. 2. In the GPS control panel, select the GPS program to 6 and make sure that the hardware one, is set to None. 4. Start TT5 and the GPS settings, select another bluetooth GPS, and you will see COM 6 free. Select COM 6 and close TT5. 5. At the GPS control panel again, now select COM (none) 6. At BT: select OUTGOING port to 6. 7. Finally start TT5 and it should connect automatically. Wait for a couple of seconds and click the GPS settings and you should see it has connected. If you follow the above exactly it should hopefully work. " |

Going back to the color thing... has no one read the Press Release from T-Mobile Germany So it appears there are going to be 3 different colors in the range, a bit like when they launched the Pink & Graphite MDA Compact II. Heres hoping.... anthracite, Bordeaux and black, looking at the pics its all those colours isn't it athracite (grey) front bit bordeaux (dark red) and black (black Personally I like the way it looks different from anything else you won't misktake it for any other pocket PC. If you are not happy with Orange wait a few weeks until the Vario II is in the shops, go play and then decide if you like the colour or not. Those press shots are usually way off. |

That's dirt cheap! Also they are selling just the software... wonder if it will work with my GPS device... Thanks for the link! you can usuually get any version of TomTom 5 to talk to any bluetooth if you don't mind tweaking the registry I followed a post off modaco and it works perfectly every time ! If you get stuck I can point you in the right direction |

I'm genuinley interested in moving back to SE i kinda liked my P900, but i thought WM was more what i needed.. but i am kinda bored with flakey software and crappy crashes.. Why are they so different? I really like a keypad to type numbers in and even sms, i find tapping the screen not the best.. no tacktile feedback etc.. So without pulling aprt the OS of each system, I think i genuinely have a dilemma here with which to go for? I loved my P900i it was a great phone and a great PDA and the OS was very stable. I was actually waiting for the P990 when I last changed phone and ended up getting the Vario. Glad I didn't wait now as it will be nearly a year later when the 990 finally appears. I have noticed that the Vario is not as stable as the Symbian OS (though I do end up fiddling with new bits of software all the time, I did the same on the p910i) The P990 has a whole new symbian OS so hopefully they have ironed out the problems with the M600 before it. The other thing is that 6 months into a 18 month contract the plastics on the Vario are beginning to rub away on the sides and its already looking a bit tired. The p910i looked good as new after 12 months. Roll on March when I get to choose again. By then it will be the P10000 and HTC FuTre Probably |

Must be asked a lotta times before....but any recommendations on cheap/free push email providers? I'm using mail2web follow the instructions from this handy topic. http://www.modaco.com/content/forum/240460/http-www-modaco-com-index-php-showtopic-240460-hl/ all works well on the new ROM. LEAP is a Cisco auth for Wireless LAN's, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lightweight_E...cation_Protocol You can get the Wireless Plugin and loads of tweaks using this nifty util. You need to register to download files. http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic....asc&start=0 Bluetooth audio tweak, (i haven't tried this yet) http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=48502 Note all the stuff on XDA develpoers can break stuff, but hey you only just upgraded your ROM so a rebuild is fine right ? Have fun |

You can backup with a 3rd party app such as Sprite Backup http://www.spritesoftware.com/pocketpc.php You have to follow the instructions carefully if you are doing a backup specifically for a ROM upgrade. Its worked fine for me in the past but you do now have to buy it, I used the WM5 Beta last time I used it. I would go for a rebuild however as it seems to make everything run a lot slicker anyway. |

QUOTE(Swampie @ Feb 23 2006, 13:34) I would recommend looking at the Self Serve option which would safe £3 per month on Web'n'Walk 200 I think (so just £16/£35 per month). Some risk that you might have to call the, but doing it from a landline bypasses the charges I believe. I'm running with the self serve and you really never have to call them. If you do need to speak to someone then you can email them in My T Mobile and they will call you back or sort it out on mail. 40Mb is plenty unless you download E mail attachments, just set it to donwload the text and then when your back on WiFi click the link in the mail and send/recieve again to get that essential / funny movie file Leaving Messenger on all day takes around 200Kb as far as I can tell but as someone elsem metions it hammers the battery. |

QUOTE(Phil Lee @ Feb 17 2006, 17:18) I've been looking at the some more. I've got the default skin enabled using the rename keys method (thanks for that As well as changing the skin I had to make a registry edit to change the font colours. These are stored in HKLM\Software\HTC\SmartDialing. By changing the Hex value of clrDupCallLog from E20074 to FFFFFF I have finally got rid of all vestages of pink from the dial pad. I've also got rid of the pink version of Phone Pad as shown in the 4th screenshot. I got all the files from XDA Dev and made some edits to the IntelliDial skins myself. Phil, Where did you change the phone pad ? I can't seem to locate it in the registry Cheers |

QUOTE(Noo @ Feb 1 2006, 13:42) Sorry, yeah. I've never used a Bluetooth headset before, so have nothing to compare it to and this is based on only a couple of calls last night. All this is based on my playing, in my flat, so no tests outdoors, yet. I hardly noticed it, when wearing it, as it's subtly light and is very comfy, too. Fits securely, so don't think it'll fall off, which showed when I tried to take it off and it fought to stay on Setting it up was really simple and it recognises my Vario extremely quickly. had to test it a few times to realise this, as it took only a second, I reckoned. Voice dialling was no problem. Sounds very clear, same as holding your phone to your ear, but without the weight and effort (obviously). People on the other end noticed a slight crackling, but I reckoned that was, possibly a sympton of Bluetooth. Didn't test the range. Cost me £40 delivered from fonejunkie. All in - very pleased I've got a HBH-662 as well and use it in the car every day with my Vario, voice dial works perfectly and I have had no complaints about the quality or crackling even when on the move. The battery lasts a week on standby as well. Shame the display only shows the number not the name but in the car I don't look at either anyway. |

I had a full handsfree for my SE p910, but when I got the vario and a new car I opted for a Bluetooth headset (Sony Ericsson Akone HBH 662) and was going to get a Brodit holder. In the end my phone just fits in my cup holder and I use the headset including Voice Dial in the car and the display. I'm not using mine for SatNav though as I have that in the car already. |

I bought a Martin Fields one off ebay but you can get them cheaper direct http://www.morpethmobiles.co.uk/proddetail...1mf%2Dc&cat=177 Same place as someone else mentioned, it is perfect and if I can't tell I've even got one on the screen. You can also remove it and wash it if it get really gunky. Make sure you clean the screen well first though ! |

QUOTE(inspectorgadjet @ Dec 21 2005, 15:06) You may also have another option for calling customer services. On the t-mobile website, if you go to the customer services section under help and support, there is a link 'phone us'. This link gives the standard 150 from your mobile phone, but it also gives a number for international calls: +44 7953 966 150. I think if you dial this number from your phone it would be taken out of your monthly allowance instead of being charged at 50p per minute. I haven't tried it from my t-mobile handset yet, but I did call from my Orange line. I also think that because it's supposed to be for international callers, they have routed it through the system quicker. My call was answered instantly without even ringing. 8) I fell into this "trap" when I first moved to T Mobile when I tried to change my contact number, you can't do this via My T Mobile so I gave them a buzz as it said on the website. When I checked my bill later it showed a charge of £4.50 !! So I emailed them (via contact in in My T Mobile) saying you can't charge for something I can't actually do online and they phoned me straight back and gave me £5 back to cover the call . They also said if you ever need to talk to them just email from within your account and they will phone you straight back. Hope this helps |

Also it crashed after install but a soft reset fixed it, and it seems to be coming through on the speakers not the earpiece, not sure if its always done this on PPC as I've never had one powerfull enough to run it with WI FI. Are you running the normal beta or the low power ?? Edit: Doh you said you are runing 1.2.0.91 which is the low power version  |

QUOTE(cthulhu @ Dec 15 2005, 01:12) I used the TMobile supplied protector, first day it looked really awful and I wanted to rip it straight off, but I used a credit card to gradually push any bubbles to the side. Now a couple of days later there's no sign of a bubble, and the initial mottled effect has gone completely. Although the fact that the protector is a couple of mm narrower than the screen now bugs me. Cant imagine how you would get it off again once it's on. Even more so if it fitted more snuggly. Anybody done it?? C 8) 1) Your router should give you DNS via DHCP along with your IP address you shouldn't need to hard code it. 3)I removed the supplied Screen protector on my Vario after a few hours cos it made the screen look awful, just peeled off. Not using a protector at all now and nearly a month in no scratches. I suppose it depends where you keep it ! |

I had a similar issue which I think was related to SPB GPRS monitor, it seems to dim the backlight to nothing. If you can get in some good light you should be able navigate to Start > Settings > Backlight and slide the slider with no backlight on. |

I seem have have everything working on PPC Profiles Pro, but when I use comm manager to go into vibrate mode, (hold down the comm button) when I come out the phone defaults to the windows ring tone, if you change profiles after this it goes back to working properly, any way to get this working so that when you drop out of vibrate it goes back to the profile. Great product by the way, if you want some ideas check out Magic Profiles Pro for Symbian UIQ I used to use this on my p910i this had loads of great features. Also why is there no button to test (play)the ring tone in the main profile page ? Cheers |

QUOTE(Pondrew @ Nov 30 2005, 15:26) Hi Eyecam, this seems to be common to all WM5 devices from HTC (the manufacturer) with built in wifi and would seem to be by design. Wifi goes to sleep when put in standby and won't reactivate until the device is taken out of standby by the user. The result as you've found is that auto email polling will use gprs instead. Unfortunately I don't think there is presently a solution to this. A rom update in the future may resolve it but that depends on 1) it being fixable in rom as opposed to a hardware problem and 2) if they (HTC and the mobile suppliers) do recognise it as a problem. Cheers Pondrew, thank goodness I get 40Mb a month on Web and Walk ! But its a shame I can't use all that free bandwidth at home and at work |
