Wouldn't it be nice if T-Mobile could "compete" in the US. AT&T/Cingular has released several new phones recently. They have a Kaiser variant, the iPhone, this new motorola, and several other new models. What does T-Mobile have? The Dash and the Wing... How depressing... |

Don't forget the *coolest* feature of this phone (pictured above)... It's cool graphics that actually have the ability to go outside the boundries of the display! Now that's cool technology! |

To unlock it you have to put in a non t-mo sim and it will then ask for the code. I disagree... You do not have to do this to unlock. All you need to do is modify a couple registry keys... First get regeditSTG2 on the phone, and then use it to modify the following keys: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Policies\Policies0001001 -> Change the value data to 1 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Policies\Policies0001005 -> Change the value data to 40 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Policies\Policies0001017 -> Change the value data to 144 After that, simply run the SDA Unlock. Then you should be able to do just about anything. If this does not work, and you get messages about sim lock, then use a more thorough approach, outlined in in a different post of mine here: http://www.modaco.com/search.html&nav=...sult_type=posts It's quite easy, and does not even need a sim in the phone to accomplish. |

Solved... Changed the following settings: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Policies\Policies0001001 -> Change the value data to 1 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Policies\Policies0001005 -> Change the value data to 127 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Policies\Policies0001017 -> Change the value data to 4294967295 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \Security\Policies\Policies -> Add new value "0000101b": Dword = 1 Then, I ran SPV services, and was able to unlock, rebooted, and ran cert.cab After, I changes the following settings back to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Policies\Policies0001001 -> Change the value data to 1 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Policies\Policies0001005 -> Change the value data to 40 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Policies\Policies0001017 -> Change the value data to 144 I am now using my T-Mobile sim. Thanks to "Confucious", who had previously posted the setting elsewhere in this forum. |

My wife's phone when swimming at the lake, so I got her a Cingular 2125 off ebay as a replacement. How do I unlock this thing? I have already flashed the Qtek firmware in, and merged her contacts... But it asks for an unlock code when I put a TMobile sim in. I used the SPV tools, but with no luck. Also put the cert.cab in. I read an article somewhere that made claims that to unlock, you had to run the cert.cab with a Cingular sim in the phone, but I have not had a chance to try this, because I can't seem to find anyone who actually uses Cingular. Everyone is T-Mobile, Verizon(yuck), or Sprint(double-yuck). Does anyone know for sure how to unlock this thing for use with T-Mobile? Thanks! |

did you figure out how to change the bootup splash screen yet? No, I have not figured it out yet. I have WM6 now, and I am unlocked, but I still don't think it's possible. To do it on WM5, on the Typhoon and Tornado models, you had to use tools to go in and replace the splash screen, but that does not work with the landscape screen. I'm sure there is a way, but someone would need to create a tool, or an install package, to pull it off. I think some of the responders are confusing the bootup splash screen with the startup and shutdown screens, which are easily changed. |

Problem: Every time I power up my device, the home screen changes back to the default after a few seconds. I am sure others using the Tmo WM6 update have noticed this issue. Cause: Tmo My5 Fix: Change the settings for My5, located in the registry at \HKLM\Software\HTC\My5\Homescreen, and change the home screens named in the Off and On values. Looking for alternative fix: How can I safely get rid of this My5 software? It seems to be running all the time, even if it's not being used. I actually have no idea how to turn it on all the way either... I did delete all the icons it uses, but really just want to disable or completely remove the service, but have not been able to figure out how to do that. Any ideas? |

Do any of you know if there has been any new homescreens for the wm6 upgrade that look just as smooth as the original interface? I did run into one or two but they will not store on the phone as a .rar...let me if any has seen them or any suggestions. I hate the original, so business like I found that the WM5 screens work find, but I have this issue that when the device reboots, it re-loads my home screen, but then a few seconds later, changes back to the default OEM homescreen. Any idea why? |

I couldn't agree more, and was just about to create a post about this. Does anyone have a solution? I've begun using Orb (www.orb.com) religiously, and it's virtually useless with WM6. Not only that, but if you are using TCPMP instead (whic I do), it is no longer able to play some formats, stating that the codecs are not installed. So, it appears that TCMPM would have to be updated for Mobile 6, in order to play many formats. This is just wonky. |

I have the new TMo WM6 upgrade on my Dash... Overall, I believe it is more snappy, and has never looked better. It's really not all that different than WM5 in appearance, until you get to the mail, which is all new, and PIE is improved as well. You can now view html formatted mail, which is nice. For those that use their device for an mp3 player, you will really like the media player plugin for the home screen, which is actually pretty cool. I also notice better support for downloading of files, internet connectivity, bluetooth... And it's much easier to pair devices. ActiveSync seems much slower now, expecially on the initial sync.... Took forever to get all my contacts back in. Just 1 small issue I am battling: Every time I restart, it resets my home screen back to the default. why? (I prefer W411y Q-Icons) If anyone has solutions to the above problems, please reply. Compatibility: Touch bar mods - appear to work fine tcpmp - works great, and appears to play smoother Google Maps - works even better AmpTweaks - most of the settings work TMoMail - Not included, but can be installed... Appears to work. AutoKeyLock - installed, but I have not configured and tested yet. Seems as though the phone is more efficient somehow... Added: I have noticed that messenger merges your im contacts into your phone, complete with icons, which is sorta cool, if you don't mind the clutter in your phone book. Windows Update is in there under settings... So you can have it download updates. Is this a good thing, or not? Media player supports ratings and album covers, if you have the folder.jpg files on your phone. That's sorta cool! You can save attachments from e-mails now. It's about time! |

On other smartphones, one can use tools to go in and read or update the splash screen in the rom. This errors when you try to do it on the Dash, in my experience. I believe this is because the image is 320x240 instead of 240x320. Has anyone been able to update the bootup splash screen, to replace the t-mobile image with the HTC logo, or some other graphic? The other images during bootup and shutdown are easily changed and well documented. I like to have these screens display a message like: This phone belongs to Dana, if lost, please call [my alternate contact numbers]. Plus, I just don't like the pink and grey tmobile branding... Makes my phone look like the Victoria's Secret edition Excalibur. -Dana |

So, I can't for the life of me change the startup/shutdown splash screens on my Dash. Basically, when I got the phone, the first thing I did was remove all references to the T-Mobile startup and shutdown sound and graphics (by clearing the value). Now, I'm trying to figure out how to get the startup graphic back. I got the default registry settings, quadruple checked them, and it's still not showing up. It just shows the ms_screen320.png for startup and nothing for shutdown. Answers here: http://www.htcwiki.com/page/The%20Dash%20FAQ |

Its true. My friend was on the phone with t-mobile support and they confirmed that they will be providing a free firware update to Dash users. DATE they did not have. That friend would be me... I was talking with a guy in tech support at T-Mo a couple days ago (not level 1 support, but someone who actually knows their products). He confirmed for me that T-Mo will be offering a free firmware update to dash users some time in the spring. I assume it will be full of T-Mo branding, and hopefully unlockable, so that we can leverage our devices to their fullest extend. Also, in regard to T-Mo's phone lineup, I was told that there are 5 new phones in the pipeline for them, but *none* are smartphone or pocket pc. Probably more samsung and nokia models... I guess we are lucky they have made the SDA, MDA & Dash available. Anyway, keeping my fingers crossed for this fabled "free mobile 6" update. -Dana |

In case anyone out there is using Google Maps on their Smartphone, and want's a shortcut to it for a hot key, or they just don't want to go into their midlet folder to launch... Create a shortcut with this line, and it should work to launch Google Maps (if you already have the software installed) 98#"\Windows\jmm.exe" -r"Google Maps","Google","Google Maps" -Dana |

In my original Tmo SDA firmware, when you selected a contact, it would pull up all the contact info, or when you selected a number that you previously dialed, it would pull up the call time, duration, etc... The behavior was the same after I upgraded to the iMate firmware. With the new Qtek firmware, the behavior is different, and I don't like it... When you select a previously dialed number, or contact, it automatically dials. To pull up any info, you must press the Menu key and then select Open. Where is the switch that controls which way it will behaive? I hope the above explanation makes sense... If not, I can try to clarify. -Dana |

Any news for the smartphone version? Unfortunately, today's smartphone's don't have enough processor power to run skype. A friend of mine was able to run the PPC version on his Tornado (tmobile sda), but it did not work very well, and it's difficult to dial and such, because the software was written with a touchscreen in mind, which most smartphones do not have. Perhaps the next generation smarphones will be more skype friendly, but the current models just don't have the muscle. |

Most welcome Speaking of white on white and W411y... When using the original Icons home screen, when I hit the power button to bring up the power off option, or change profiles, the check mark that indicates the current profile is white, but so is the background, so you can't see which profile is selected unless you move down the list, highlighting each one to create contrast to find the hidden check box. Make sense? How do I fix? Is that in the xml for the home screen as well? |

Looks like my work are going on to T Mobile from Orange and I was disapointed to find that the handset range is limited in terms of WM5. I currently have an SPV M500 but I was hoping to go back to Smartphone due to the form factor. I was disapointed to see that the only Smartphone they offer is the SDA II which is 2003SE. Does anyone know if they are going to be releasing the HTC flip phone or any of the other WM5 smartphones? Are you sure the above is correct? The am pretty sure the SDA they are offering is WM5. Mine is. |

[size=3]WOW [size=2]I just plugged in the USB and "Windows mobile Device Centre " opened - hot poop - full windows integration. Vista is great so far! C500 WM5 & M7000 WM5 Unfortunately, Vista's "Windows Mobile Device Center" does not support WM2003 phones, only WM5, which I think is completely stupid. Also, since upgrading Vista to the July build (5472), I can no longer sync with my WM5 phone either. Also, now my sound does not work either! Vista is pretty unstable over all... The newest build actually has more problems than the previous build. I would discourage people from even trying Vista until RS1 is released. B2.5 is just not hardware friendly at this point. |

I configured my phone as was listed here to allow internet access via T-Zones on the T-Mobile SDA. My phone worked flawlessly until yesterday morning. Every time I try to access a link outside of T-Zones, such as Google, I get a message saying "This page contains errors and cannot be displayed". I contacted T-Mobile, but as always, they were useless. He told me that T-Zones is not supported by the SDA and that he could take it off and put me on the total internet plan for $30. So... Let me get this right... You contacted T-Mobile technical support to ask them why your pirated internet access was no longer working? I don't think that's the approach I would have taken. Also, it does not suprise me that they gave you that kind of answer. They are probably instructed to tell people that. It's obvious that T-Mobile knows about the hole, and that people out there are exploiting it. But figure the number of customers they have. Then figure the percentage of them that even has a phone that can access the internet. Then figure the number of those that even have a desire to access the internet from their phones. Then figure the percentage of those that even have the technical ability, or desire, to actually manually put in the settings and make it work. I doubt it's worth the expense they would incur to close the hole. Maybe they have, but it's more likely that there's another temporary problem at work here. However, if they really did close the hole, then I think looking for another one may be a waste of time. If you need internet access on your phone, the time is sure to come when you will have no choice but to pay for it. On a side note... Mine is still working, and I have verified with another friend this his is still working as well. If the masses start posting that their access has been cut off as well, then I will believe it. I would be quite suprised, then I would accept it, and then just use wifi until my contract allows me to switch to Cingular. |

Is there a registry setting, or any other way, to change the location of where the VoiceNotes files get stored? I would like these to be written to my SD card instead of internal memory. Anyone know if this is possible? |
