Hi Kaaeed, good reply You're right. I had a couple of accounts that worked fine on the phone, but this one didn't. I check it a lot during the day at work from my desktop, and I think the issue must have been related to number of 'open connections' (not neccessarily all IMAP). Later in the day after I left work, when I would have closed all my work PC connections, it just started working. Hi Munky I have noticed on occasion that its nothing to do with the phone or the settings but potentially issues with the server or the network which results in logging in or connection failures. I realise you are frustrated but it may just be worthwhile giving it a few hours and see if it resolves itself due to network or gmail server issues. Sorry if you have already waited a day, then its obviously something else One other thought I presume you can connect to the internet and that your data settings as per your carrier are all Ok? Best of luck Kaaeed |

Hi, I'm coming from a TytnII, where I've used mail through the native WM client (outlook mobile?) for ages with no problems - it just works. On my HD, I'm trying to get my gmail account working with the same settings, and no go. It keeps popping up asking for username and password. I'm putting in exactly the same details as on my other phone which is working fine. EDIT: Just out of interest, I create a new gmail account, and this worked first time. So there is some issue with accessing my existing account via IMAP. Anything else obvious or non obvious that could be wrong? I've checked the advanced server settings, and they're OK. I've tried username as my.name and my.name@gmail.com, and retyped my password about 1000 times. Cheers, munky |

I ended up getting the good deal someone mentioned early in this thread: 1200 mins ~500 texts 'unlimited' data (250Mb) unlimited landline 18 month Phone cost me £129.99, but they credited me £150 on to next months bill £25/month !! (I had to moan a bit to get that, but she didn't put up too much resistance Very happy not to have any more £50 bills! (be happier if HTC got the video drivers sorted...) |

Just a quick note to say remember QuidCo payments aren't guaranteed! If something goes wrong with the tracking, or the payer decides they aren't going to make payment, you may never see that money. I personally have never had this happen, and have used quidco successfully a few times, but it's something to be aware of in any deal like this. |

BUT - they still don't have any stock, and are unable to tell me when they might arrive... HD now in stock on Orange web site. Retentions/Upgrades don't have stock though! Apparently their stock is different to website stock. Guy recommended I call back on Thursday. |

Seems a good deal to me - especially the included unlimited data - its usually £5 (evenings & weekend) or £7.50 (anytime). Where is it from? - is it Orange direct? Yeah, that was from Orange direct But! .. I called back to confirm some stuff on the data plan. The 2nd person I spoke to refused point blank to look up info on the HD, saying they definitely did not have any info on it. So I called back, and the 3rd person said it was due on the 3rd Nov, but that they definitely did not have it, and deinitely could not quote pricing on it, and the 1st person I spoke to should have not quoted me those figures - he must have invented them, however, they *may* have to honour what I was quoted! What a mess! If I *can* get that deal, it was 18 mnth, and apparently 'unlimited' data means 250Mb on Orange. |

According to Orange worker on xda-developers HTC Touch HD passed testing today and was released for build (adding in orange sim cards to boxes) and for shipping to stores for Saturday Anyone seen them in-store today? I just called retentions and they don't think they have them available yet (for phone contract orders) Edit: A couple of London stores I triede don't have them today (Sat 8th), and don't know much about them. One store said Oxford St. stores might have them or know more, but they're not answering their phones. m |

I think I've seen videos of people demoing a youtube player app on the HD. If you're not sure about screen keyboards, pop into an O2 shop and play with an iPhone - I'm coming from an HTC TYTN. It definitely doesn't feel as good as a 'phyiscal' keyboard to begin with, but its not too hard to start using, and in the few mins I was playing wiht an ipHone I was gradually speeding up. Hi, I know this may be a few stupid questions, but: can you watch you tube in the Touch HD? Will be BBC mobile iPlayer be available for it (I presume it doesn't have OMR DRM 2)? ANyone got a screen grab of the keyboard for texting - never had a touch screen only device and not sure if I could cope? Cheers Paddy |

I'm a long time Orange subscriber, glad the HD is here so I don't have to switch to O2 for the iPhone. I spend average of #50/month (GBP) at the moment and just got quoted this: #35/month for: 850mins 500 texts unlimited data phone cost: free Anyone know how good a deal this is at the moment? Could I get similar deal for less per month? I'd hopefully have some clout with retentions because of consistent high spend? Cheers m |

So I haven't really kept up with all the latest coolest phones, and I'm a bit blinded by the coolness of the iPhone to be aware of the current best-of-class Windows Mobile phones or if the iPhone has any major problems. When I google for new phones, I don't really know what to look for, so I get conflicting and incomplete info. Maybe the good people of Modaco can help me out? I need some teachin' on what the current best-of-class phones are, and with a 16Gb iPhone as a base example of what I'm looking for, what do I gain/lose with another phone? Thanks! munky P.S. Factors important to me are: Most important: usability of web browser and internet application, GPS/sat nav software, great as a *phone*, nice swooshy interface Quite important: good keyboard, useful extra apps (e.g. vnc, terminal) Least Important: cost, time - I can wait a month or two for release of a great new phone |

Hi All, I've been searching online, but can't find details of Orange's plans for iPhone 3G - do they have any? I don't really want to change - have been with Orange forever, but with O2's launch of the iPhone 3G today I'm considering it - any persuading factors? Cheers, m |

Sorry for newb-like questions, but for people like me who don't know - are there any risks doing this, and what if I want to go back to my current Orange WM5 ROM later? As far as WM6 Black Edition 1.2's thread goes, this looks reasonably safe, with minimal if any compatibility issues? |

I don't think I'm missing anything blindingly obvious, but with TomTom6 (on M3100) the backlight stays constantly on. From a quick google it looks like it's been designed like this, but I think I read that the symbian version has backlight options. That plus bluetooth will surely wear the battery down pretty quick, and I don't have a car charger. Any solutions to this? Cheers |

Does anyone have recommendations for software that assists with watching/bidding on eBay? Ideally looking for the quickest way to set a reminder on my phone while looking at the auction on my laptop, and are there any phone applications that assist with bidding? Cheers |

Just got a new M3100 and have been tinkering about with it. I'm def. in a 3G area - had another 3G phone in the same room on Orange get the 3G icon, but I can't get the 3G icon to come up, only 'G'. Been on hold to Orange tech. support for over an hour now (nice experience after I just sign up to a new contract) so thought I'd ask Modaco first. TIA Edit: Apparently there are 3G sims and not-3G sims? I had to put the new sim I received into the phone and have them activate it (which I didn't have to do on the previous upgrade), and that sorted it. |

Just FYI for anyone trying to buy the #8/month Orange World Unlimited - I just was on the phone to retentions speaking to someone who wasn't overly familiar. He kept trying to give me the #5/month unlimited off peak, but I kept telling him that I knew people had recently purchased the #8/mo unlimited, and that I wanted something comparable to Web n Walk. He couldn't find the #8/month package for some reason, and after asking him about it 4 or 5 times he went off to ask someone else, and eventually manged to find it somehow, so it definitely does still exist. I ended up with: Free M3100 800 mins anytime 100 texts (should have asked for 200, but won't use 100, so didn't bother) unlimited land line #30 inc. vat 18 month contact, unlimited internet for #8 inc. VAT He initially wanted to give me 500 minutes for 30/month, but I mumbled something about web and walk 35 having 800 minutes and he was able to up it after I said that. |

I am on a canary 30 so I get 325 xnetwork mins, 200 Orange to Orange off peek and weekend mins, 1 magic number - 150 txt and I also got 12 months orange care ( insurance ) and I was able to carry over my Open Access ( unlimited wap - seems to work well on web too M1TNT, cheers for the info. Sorry don't know all the package names - does what you got include unlimited 3G data? Do you pay for the insurance or was it thrown in as part of the deal? And that's 20 for the M3100 right? Sounds good as my upgrade price for the phone is 49.99 Cheers |

I'm coming to the end of my contract on Orange (SPV C550, paying 35/mo), and I think I'm going to switch over to the M3100/Vario II. I need to know what kind of deal I should be negotiating for when I'm talking to Orange/T-Mobile. (Of course with Orange I'll be talking to customer retention) I think I'd use unlimited data, so I'll be going for that and minutes wise I need 300-400/mo + a few texts. Thanks for any advice and info. M |

I've had ActiveSync working before a long time ago, but now can't get it working. Phone has no problems I'm aware of, computer is a different one to the one it was previously working on. C500 with ActiveSync 3.8 Have googled and searched forums, but can't find out why my setup isn't working. Bluetooth in the phone is OK - can pair with a headset and use it fine, bluetooth in the computer is fine, can use a BT GPS Can pair the phone with the computer no problem and use stuff like the headset service, and the BT serial port on the computer is working and on COM4. If I start the ActiveSync get connected wizard, it searches but doesn't find anything, whether or not I connect the BT serial port service first on the computer. If I try to 'connect via BT' from the ActiveSync app on the phone, sometimes it will then popup a message on the computer saying 'C500 is trying to connect to the serial port', which I allow, but then nothing else happens, and ActiveSync on the phone stays at 'Connecting'. Odd stuff that might be relevant: In Options > PC Settings on AS on the phone, there's a thing that says 'Use': which is presumably the BT device to connect to. In there is only one option which is the old BT name of my previous computer. (I tried calling the BT device for my current computer the same name, no joy) If I try the Setup BT ActiveSync option in AS, it starts the bluetooth settings thing, but after I'm done with that it doesn't continue any kind of setup process. Thanks for any help!! |

I'd like a GPS on a limited budget, and have an Orange SPV C500. The hardware looks reasonably cheap now, but the main things I'm wondering are: - Are there any issues with the ~£40 bluetooth GPS receivers and C500s ? - Is a Smartphone actually good for a GPS - is the screen big enough - which software is best or best-value ? Are there good car clips where you can have the phone in your line of sight and is it practical to try and use one while you're driving? (The two menu buttons on my C500 could be fiddly?) Thanks for any advice - sorry if these questions are answered somewhere but as my topic says the search appears to not take 3 letter words so I can't search for 'gps'. |
