QUOTE(Samuran @ Jun 26 2007, 14:05) *
Umm I realise this is off topic but be careful doing this as the phone that t-mob send you isnt actually yours to sell until you have completed the new term of your contract.

A friend of mine ordered an "unwanted upgrade" from ebay and about 2 weeks later it stoped working and a message appeared on the screen telling him the phone had been bared and to visit an orange store. He went into a local orange shop to ask what was on, they took the phone gave him back the sim card and told him to have a nice day....

I don't know if this happens often but he was told that after a new phone is sent out to a customer the network checks that the correct sim card is inserted and being used. If not.... lock down.

But it might just be that orange are c*ocks!

Cheers

Ben

Wrong. The phone is yours to do as you wish with it from day 1. If you want to get a phone on upgrade and sell it the next day then you can. The phone forms no part of the contract. It is merely an incentive for you to sign up to the airtime agreement.

What happened in your mates case is that someone ebayed their upgrade, pocketed the money then probably reported the phone stolen (insurance fiddle probably) and the network then blacklisted it. So that chancer got your mates money....and a repacement phone. I'd get your mate to go back to the buyer and demand a refund.

Sorry, I should have mentioned (pops out to edit profile).  I'm in the west midlands, near Tamworth.

The service from orange is a little flaky in the house - their aerial is only about 400 yards away, but is the other side of a hill

My mate lives in Dordon (near to you i think) and he gets a reasonable signal with O2.

As for the best CS....i've been with both and I rate T-Mobile better.....but that doesn't mean to say O2 have ever been bad.....i just find T-Mob answer the phoe quicker and seem more knowledgeable.

I'd keep the Charmer as i prefer my phones smaller. But as you like the keyboard then the decision seems to have already been made......

Pay cheap - pay twice! Thats my motto. Worth spending a little bit more for quality

Holux GPSlim 236 (best on the market if you ask me) from www.clove.co.uk - good price as well.

Curiosity spiked my interest. Was all set to get the Sendo Z100 Smartphone but it was canned before release. Then I never liked the look of the original SPVs and I turned my attention to other phones (S60 & UIQ) before seeing the C500 and getting it. Never liked it though (nor the C600 i have) but i do really like PPC Phones.

Cracking review Pondrew. May invest in a Charmer myself. Prefer the size of my Magician but prefer the OS of the Wizard (but dislike the bulk) so this would be the perfect solution.

So you've stuck the circular plastic disc to the dash - but what are you using to stick the Holux to the plastic disc?  Just about to order that holder you got - do the side grips not interfere with Wizard/Vario buttons?

Cheers.

The plastic disc has a lip/ridge around it so it fits/wedges in a treat. Also, i've not had a problem with it interfering with the side buttons at all.

Ok, you can get it as the Dopod 818 Pro, but I'm wondering if Orange, O2 or Tmobile are going to release this phone?

I've looked at reviews of the phone, and they look pretty good. the 2MP camera looks like it can take decent photos as well.  Furthermore, don't think I need the keyboard as in the Wizard.

So, anybody have any clue if it's gonna come out?

Don't know for definate but i'd say there is a pretty good chance at least one network will take it.

No probs smile.gif

I use a seperate BT GPS receiver and a cradle I ordered from mobilefun for about £12. Does the job for me. See my photos halfway down this thread:
http://www.modaco.com/Qtek9100_Car_Mount-t230492-s15.html
Although its shown with a Magician, my Wizard also fits in nicely as well.

Hey,

Im new here and i only found out about this site over christmas. I got given an XDA mini S and tomtom navigator software for xmas, but i need to buy a GPS reciever.

Does it have to be a tomtom reciever?

If not, can anyone recommend one?
Many thanks in advance,

paul

Doesn't have to be the Tom Tom one.

Don't fall into the trap of buying the cheapest one you see either. I recommend the Holux GPSlim 236. The cheapest i've seen it is on clove.co.uk for £82 delivered. It works flawlessy with my TT Navigator.

Hi Peppermint Hippo,

How have you got your Holux 236 attached to the dash?

Cheers.

Hi there.

The windscreen mount i got came with a circular plastic disc with double sided sticky tape on. Its in case you wish to attach your holder without sticking it to the window. You stick the disc on a surface and then apply the suction pad into it. It just so happens that its the perfect size to hold my Holux 236 smile.gif

Yes, I just got it on Data 5, £79.99 plus £9.40/month  for 12months.  Its unlocked, so my Orange sim works (its a 3G compatible sim incidentally).  Price lists claim you can make  voice calls and sms on a data tariff only, but  I can't
http://www.o2.co.uk/business/tariffs/datat.../0,,203,00.html

Clapham Junction o2 shop had it instock
*

The data only tariffs can make calls/texts but you have to ring up CS to activat these features on your account. You usually get the option of having calling/texting provisoned on data only tariffs but in this instance it looks like they fogot to ask you.

I've been using CoPilot 5 for about 6 months now and I really like it.

It pairs up with the bluetooth GPS each time without any problems. Routing is generally very good but occasionaly it will send you on a slightly longer way round but it always gets you there.

So far it never crashes (unlike TomTom from the reports on here) and recalculates routes incrediably fast. As to CoPilot 6 I don't know but from the reports on Pocket GPS world they seem to like it. All in all I would recommend it without fail.
*

My crashing problems with Tom Tom have been resolved with the upgrade to v5.21. Never used CoPilot. Would like to give it a go sometime but at the momemt, I have no complaints with TT.
