Think you may find that the 39,900 is actually Taiwanese dollars. So the price should be around US$1,200, GBP615 and EUR930. |

Sounds very strange. Is it prehaps roaming on a 2G network at the moment and did you try a simple restart yet? |

I have had my Dopod 595 for over 2 months now. I have refrained from commenting on battery life issues until I was happy that my phone was well tested. I can happily say that I get a similar battery life (1.5-2 days) as I did with my Tornado. However, I now use internet, email and video conferencing much more, so this is pretty impressive. The Wi-Fi is handy on the Tornado but only when beside a free access point!! Overall, I have found this phone to be extremely stable and well finished. I am very well aware that the first HTC versions in Europe may be a little different, with no video conferencing, but I would hope that this does not deter people from buying this phone. I have had various different HTC/Dopod phones to test and I would not swap my phone for any of them. |

WM5 Smartphone AKU 2.3 New Features With the latest WM 5.0 AKU 2.3 release for Smartphones, Microsoft added some useful features to its Smartphone platform, including a file explorer and a slightly modified Start menu. Microsoft always uses these AKU releases to either fix bugs or to add new features and while most stuff and changes are under the hood, these two new features can be seen and used by the users and both adds more convenience to the Smartphone use. File Explorer From the launch of the first Windows Mobile Smartphone, Microsoft’s mobile phone OS never had an inbuilt file explorer, as we know it from the Pocket PC platform but either the ODM added a third party file explorer or users had to download a third party file manager from the web. Now, Microsoft changed this since a kind of file explorer was required anyway to improve the picture browsing functionality. Based on this API, Microsoft added a native file explorer to the latest AKU release, which reminds pretty much on the Pocket PC file explorer: Start Menu While the first Windows Mobile Smartphones, until the 2003 Second Edition platform, had a list view of the Start menu, Microsoft changed the list view to the more modern an common grid view in Windows Mobile 5.0. However, the grid view had one disadvantage: It provided the menu items per page and if you had more than 9 applications/shortcuts installed, you had to circle through the menu pages by using the * and # keys on your phone keyboard. Now, Microsoft mixed the grid view with a kind of list view functionality (as known from the Pocket PC as well) since you can scroll up and down through the menu as well, line by line/shortcut by shortcut, but you can still circle through the menu pages with the * and # keys also. To show a better indication, where in the menu you are, Microsoft also added a “virtual” scrollbar on the right side of the menu. As always, you can not download the new AKU, Microsoft releases to the hardware vendors and up to them to release the new ROM. Link to article and pictures here: http://solsie.com/?p=558 |

Ah that is weird because I had recently installed the mac homescreen also. I thought it might have been something else, but since a few of us had the same problem, I guess I will not install it again. |

OK, the hard reset worked. It took me a while to figure out that it was soft tap on the power button while holding down the two soft keys. Note: Encase some other users are not aware; a hard reset will totally restore your phone to its original factory settings. |

My phone refuses to show the start menu. When i press the button, I can't see any icons. It says start at the top, so it is trying to access it ok. I can access all programs that are in the short cut bar on my home page. Any ideas how I can fix this? |

Has anyone had a problem with wi-fi turning itself back on? On a few occasions, I have turned my wi-fi off only to look back at the phone after a few minutes to see it back on again. Anyone have a similar experience or any ideas how to stop. Thanks, Joe |

QUOTE(Paul [MVP] @ Nov 18 2005, 21:31) The company who is selling them in Taiwan expects more to hit the market very soon. Basically, if a 4GB SD card is available, the 2GB mini-SD card is not far behind. But it is sweet to have so much video and music space. p.s. Thanks for all the tweaks.. |
